AIBU to think this displays a breathtaking lack of self-awareness from one of the richest men in the world?

Well, how about you make a start with that Charles?!

DustyLee123 · 25/10/2024 06:40

I’d start with getting the Catholic Church to sell its gold and land.

Crazyeight · 25/10/2024 06:40

He should give us each a jewel from his posh hat.

Seasmoke · 25/10/2024 06:41

To be fair to Charles, the Princes Trust is very good at doing that, but yes, in general when the Roysls say 'we' must do something they mean ' you' should do something while we carry on as normal.

Nesbi · 25/10/2024 06:42

We could make everyone royal, and we’d all have to be called Ma’am, or Sir. And the RAF would do a flyover for all our birthdays

HowardTJMoon · 25/10/2024 06:47

Aren't Breath Taking Lack Of Self Awareness some of Charlie's numerous middle names? I think they come somewhere between Staggeringly Dim and Arthur.

PeriPeriMam · 25/10/2024 06:50

Windfall tax
Redistribute wealth. Just a little bit, I'm not a commie, but there's plenty to share around a bit
Thanks King - top guy!

CeeJay81 · 25/10/2024 06:56

According to Google the Royal family are worth 30 to 60 billion. So there's a start!

In what way redistribute wealth? People who have never gone out to work already have other taxpayers’ money “redistributed” to them. When you say, “there’s plenty to share around”, from where, exactly? Already, the top richest one percent pay almost thirty percent of income tax - and they’re the most mobile section of society. Beware of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.

Sethera · 25/10/2024 07:06

Creative ways ... how about Charles takes a list of poor people, puts their names into one of his crowns, and each one pulled out gets given one of his many houses, or a priceless jewel from the thousands the Royal Family have in storage, or a share in their income. We could call it 'It's a Royal Lottery' and put it on television, and could follow the lives of the lucky beneficiaries afterwards.

As part of the same initiative all the working age Royals could go and work in call centres or supermarkets. That could be filmed too. Profits from "It's a Royal Lottery' could go to the NHS.

You can thank me later, Charlie.

Loving these responses 😆

Yeah, 😂😂Thanks Charles.

How about you stop being king and live off an old age pension. Your kids can get a real job.

Nogaxeh · 25/10/2024 07:08

I think YABU.

It shows a lot of self-awareness. He is calling for "creative" ways of tackling inequality, precisely because the "obvious" ways would involve him and his family letting go of lots of their dosh.

Tax wealth more not income

Twixfixing · 25/10/2024 07:11

Maybe Charles could give up the fleet of range rovers? A few houses? William & Kate could holiday less, lots of options.

As someone who has to live on the benefits system at the moment, I see you irritation. However there is a deep socioeconomic divide with little opportunity for manoeuvre these days. If any of the ‘safety net’ money could be used to improve social care greatly (meaning carers like myself could have adequate support back into at least part time work) or better support for single parents not to be stuck in no/low paid jobs for years. The issue for us on the benefits end is that we’re stuck between a rock/hard place situation where choices are extremely limited in self improvement.

Arwinsdanceshoes555 · 25/10/2024 07:21

Cards on table, this is precisely why, imho monarchy lacks credibility in the modern world.

If you look at modern problems just in the UK ie health, the economy, crime, housing, immigration and asylum, environment; they are all more or less caused or impacted by issues of social injustice and inequality.

And how on earth can those issues be addressed with credibility and honesty from a position of such ridiculous privilege?

Especially when the RF themselves are still actively protecting their own tax advantages and laws protecting information relating to inheritance.

The hypocrisy is outrageous!

You realise plenty of working people struggle to make ends meet too? Like really struggle. Even when juggling a couple of jobs?

(I am lucky to be well paid but I volunteer for a charity that supports people who really struggle)

Hi Rishi.

Salacia · 25/10/2024 07:24

Given that 1000 years later those with a surname of Norman origin are likely to be wealthier than those without maybe we could look at hereditary privilege? Up to and including the concept of a hereditary monarchy, the sheer existence of which makes us an inequitable country by definition.

Cynic17 · 25/10/2024 07:24

Some of the responses here are so breathtakingly juvenile....

DustyAmuseAlien · 25/10/2024 07:28

Back when schools and hospitals were regularly being named "Kings" or "Queens" - royalty lead by example to demonstrate to fellow wealthy people that one should take pride in using ones wealth for general benefit and made it prestigious and fashionable to make large endowment gifts to create or sustain charitable institutions.

The lack of royalty doing this now is partly to blame for a generally selfish and hoarding culture among the wealthy.

Poor people donate proportionally way more of their assets and income than rich people do.

Of course he's not going to do anything.

Bit Eva Peron? Create a bit of hysteria and positive PR for the Royal Family too. I'm sure that would go down well!
