To want to be able to buy a bra that the underwires don't pop out of??

Basically as the thread title says!
Get a new bra (38D) fits great then low & behold I end up with the underwire popping up during the day!
Are there any decent underwire bras that last?

It probably doesn't fit. I've never had that happen to a bra before.

Grrrrrrrrr8 · 22/10/2024 21:58

Was it an M&S bra? This always used to happen to me. Now I spend money at a proper, independent bra fitters

DoublePeonies · 22/10/2024 22:01

A brand new bra shouldn't do that. Take it back.

The wire occasionally comes out of my really old bras. But we are talking like 2 years of pretty continuous wear, as I only cycle between about 3 bras. They last longer now I put them in a mesh bag to (machine - naughty naughty) wash.

Missionimprobable · 22/10/2024 22:02

Do you tumble dry them?
Heat makes the metal expand

Silvertulips · 22/10/2024 22:04

Have you tried those soft bras without underwire?

I keep seeing them advertised but not going to buy one on a random internet site.

Doggymummar · 22/10/2024 22:06

I imagine you have the wrong size. Try Bravissimo to check the size, and if course return the bras for a refund as they are probably faulty

DyslexicPoster · 22/10/2024 22:07

Where was it from? Had this with Asda and Primark bras. My oldest bras are front Sainsbury's and M&S. But definitely buy some bra wash bags as if the wire comes out in the machine it's a nightmare. Ruins the machine

GreatNorthBun · 22/10/2024 22:08

You're probably not 38D. You're probably more like 32F. (Sorry - don't mean to be a bra bore)

But yeah, probably it's the wrong size. If you're already washing it in a bra bag and hanging it to dry then this is the most likely reason.

LimeCookie · 22/10/2024 22:10

I get non-wired from M&S and have done now for near on 10 years. Honestly they’re just as stable but no hard bits poking out. Totally give them a try. But get fitted, as you might just be a different size in non-wired.

DinosaurMunch · 22/10/2024 22:11

I've never had this. Buy mine from m and s. Mind you the sizes in there are ridiculous nowadays. Really inconsistent and they don't do 32F in most of the bras which is a perfectly average size

user1496146479 · 22/10/2024 22:11

I've been measured, lost about two stone this year, so got measured as part of kitting out some new clothes etc.

But this happened with lots of bras from different shops.

It may well be the tumble dryer, I do try to take them out, but not 100% about it, plus sometimes DH/DS are sorting laundry etc

So annoying that they need so much TLC to survive! BlushGrin

Oh god! Never tumble dry them 😉 put one arm hole over a hanger and hang up over night ( to my shame mine hang in my side window) they dry over night it not faster

ssd · 22/10/2024 22:29

Its because you are washing it in the machine. Check the label, it'll be hand wash only. And forget lingerie washing bags, waste of time.
Plus you are a 34F.

ssd · 22/10/2024 22:30

Oh jesus, its being tumble dried too!!

Pashazade · 22/10/2024 22:35

So I wash my bras in twos inside a pillow case inside a mesh bag with a toggle drawstring, I layer the pillow case through the opening of the mesh bag so the toggle holds everything shut and the bras can't escape the pillow case. Wash them on a gentle setting, always air dry. Put them somewhere separate don't let them go in the main wash. My machine ate several before I found this method.

dementedpixie · 22/10/2024 22:38

I never hand wash and use a mesh bag and this rarely happens to my Bras

Turmerictolly · 22/10/2024 22:55

Switch to non wired, just as supportive and none of those issues.

Moonshine5 · 22/10/2024 22:56

That's never happened to me, try Victoria's secret or Wonderbra

gano · 22/10/2024 22:59

This used to happen to me with poorly fitted bras. Since I've had regular fittings, this no longer happens.

LovelyDaaling · 22/10/2024 23:00

It's never happened to mine (always machine washed in a mesh bag). I never tumble them either

DelurkingAJ · 22/10/2024 23:01

Handwash (takes about 10 minutes a week to do 7 bras) and then hang up in the bathroom to dry…this used to happen to me and then I bought nicer bras so handwash and it doesn’t happen any more. So they last…about five years and counting now.

Suzuki70 · 22/10/2024 23:03

Measured where? If it was M&S they'll shove you into whatever they have in stock - 36 or 38 usually. As a rough guide your band size is your clothing size plus 20.

Also seconding - hand wash (dead easy, I wear mine in the shower and drip dry it in there) and never ever tumble dry. The wires will bend and poke through.

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/10/2024 23:05

Never machine wash or tumble dry your bras. They don't like bras and bras don't like them. You risk damage to the machine and/or your bra.
I wash mine by hand and dry outside if the weather is fine or from a socktopus hung up in the bathroom if it's raining.

user1496146479 · 03/11/2024 22:04

Not sure why no one believes I got properly measured... Measured in a small independent lingerie shop, not M&S.
Am happy the size is right!
Will try to be more diligent on taking them out before tumble dryer, & remind DH too as he does a fair bit of laundry too.

Will look at mesh bags too as some have suggested it might help!

Thanks

Because usually if a woman posts about bra issues and says she is a 38 band size she's a victim of the "measure and add X inches" bra sizing method from the 1960s before bras had elastic.
