To refuse to share my ensuite

Mybigbathroom · 22/10/2024 19:59

Friend staying for a week in my spare room, I've told her to use the main bathroom which has a shower

She has just said she would prefer to use my ensuite as finds it easier to use

AIBU to have said no, don't like people traipsing through my bedroom and using my private sanctuary !

Cheek! You are definitely not BU

evtheria · 22/10/2024 20:01

Why would your en-suite be any easier to use than the bathroom..? Is your house large and the main bathroom downstairs or something?

Time to start pointedly calling the main bathroom the 'guest bathroom'.

DramaAlpaca · 22/10/2024 20:01

Of course you are not being unreasonable. She's a cheeky mare!

Cosyblankets · 22/10/2024 20:01

Why is it easier? How?
No way would i be sharing my ensuite when there's a perfectly good bathroom

Procrastinates · 22/10/2024 20:02

Why is your ensuite easier? I really can't see why she would need to use it and the fact you're letting her stay for a week is already pretty hospitable of you.

Surprisedcupcake · 22/10/2024 20:02

Yanbu. Is your friend a bit weird 😬

265IceCream · 22/10/2024 20:02

YANBU. Friend is cheeky.

MaggieFS · 22/10/2024 20:03

That's weird. Do you have other people in the house too also using the other one? What would make yours easier?

Ginkypig · 22/10/2024 20:03

Sorry but bothe whole point of an en-suite is that it for the private use of the people who use that bedroom.

fair enough if there was not another way to wash or toilet but there is

Mybigbathroom · 22/10/2024 20:04

No just me here, both bathrooms same size, she said she finds main shower tricky

Is the ensuite a walk in shower and bathroom over bath? Maybe she has mobility issues. If it’s same set up just say that’s not possible.

CoffeeWithHer · 22/10/2024 20:05

She may well prefer to use your en suite but you’d prefer her not to…and as it’s your home. You win 👍🏻

I personally think it’s odd that she’d want to use your en suite - if someone used mine when the family bathroom / toilet was available I’d actually be pissed off. Probably because it’s a frigging mess and it’s my only bit of personal space.

No nothing like that or I wouldn't mind

The shower is tricky ... how? Just show her how to use it and tell her to shut her trap and stay out of your bedroom.

Is your en suite nicer in some way and she's someone who gets jealous of you having "nice things"?

Or does she have a privacy concern that your partner/ kids might hover outside the main bathroom or something?

sangriaandsunshine · 22/10/2024 20:29

How weird!
At Christmas when we have a lot of family staying we get the DC to use our ensuite as, otherwise, they'd be at least 7 people using the family bathroom and just two using ours but, even in that scenario it's only the DC who I allow to use our en suite

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 22/10/2024 20:37

Is she also one of these people who 'just finds it easier' to use your money to pay in cafes than her own?!

The only benefit of an en-suite over a main/general bathroom is if you are sleeping in the room to which it is attached - that's it!

Pancakeflipper · 22/10/2024 20:39

Give her a shower tutorial.

I do find myself struggling to use some showers and I fear breaking them.

Cherrysoup · 22/10/2024 20:50

She’s incredibly cheeky. You’ve told her no yet she says she’d rather use your en-suite?! I would not be demanding this were I staying at a friends! Very cf!

FuzzyGoblin · 22/10/2024 20:51

Just tell her you will turn the shower on for her with the right adjustments made.

This is why I sometimes offer the use of my big walk-in shower in the ensuite, especially if there are quite a lot of guests such as over New Year.

PeriPeriMam · 22/10/2024 20:56

"Sorry, it's a bit personal and I wouldn't usually mention it but I have persistent explosive diarrhea at the moment and it's better we don't dump in the same toilet. I'm still not sure if it's catching"

Ha ha yes she is very careful!

In that case, she probably wants to use your shampoo, etc. Has she 'forgotten' to bring her own?

Yeah I reckon it's this. Especially if you've got posh toiletries.

Larrythebloodycat · 22/10/2024 21:16

If you stay in someone's home, you expect to fall in with their arrangements. Asking for different arrangements is a bit cheeky, unless there is a specific reason e.g. disability.
