Epson ecotank - the only printer I've owned in my almost 40 years that has reliably worked when I wanted it to every time. And I've had mine over 2 years and still haven't run out of ink despite home educating 4 kids and running a business.

We have that too.
It does periodically tell me I'm out of ink. I look at the level (easy to do) and tell it is hasn't. It believes me and continues printing.

DanFmDorking · 22/10/2024 19:38

I have a Canon MG7751 which I'm very pleased with.
I've had it for about 8 years (I think) - they don't make this model any more.
I don't print too much.

I've just had a look at the current range of Canon printers and if I had to replace it I'd choose the Canon PIXMA TS8750 - I want good quality colour document and photo prints and I prefer multi individual inks.

I have posted on this thread.

HP is an absolute piece of shit, had nothing but issues with it. Never mind the dumb pay per month ink subscription.

I love my Brother laserjet, had it for 3yrs and no issues at all. Not the best for photos but great for paper printing.

RausageSoul · 22/10/2024 19:59

I'm scared to jinx it, but my HP envy, bought in 2018 with the instant ink programme has worked like a dream for us!

I pay £1.50 a month and ink just arrives when it's needed, it's wireless and every device can see it and print to it. It only cost about £80

zaxxon · 22/10/2024 20:11

I have an Epson expression inkjet and it's an absolute arsehole. If you read its diary, you would see how much it hated me. Well, the feeling's mutual, pal. Would Not Recommend.

Jennyathemall · 22/10/2024 20:15

As long as you dont need colour get a cheap b&w laser. We have the HP M15w and it’s great. Super simple, great quality and non of the issues of all the ink jets.

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 22/10/2024 20:22

Epson Eco tank wins for me.

I have an A4 one and an A3 one, both just work.

Both have tanks so you top up just that colour if they ever get empty and you never have to faff about buying teeny cartridges or getting messages about cartridges not being recognised even when they are the ones HP sent out.

Previously went through several HP printers which were all rubbish enough to get binned even if they didn't break (which most of them did).
I wouldn't take one for free and will never buy HP again.

TossedSaladandSE · 22/10/2024 20:24

You have been using the special programme regularly to clean it yes ?

OMGitsnotgood · 22/10/2024 20:30

Those suggesting Canon Eco Tank... We've been looking at this but I read you need to use it every week to keep the ink flowing. We don't need to print every week, is this true? We could print a test sheet every week I guess but seems like a waste

EmeraldRoulette · 22/10/2024 20:33

My experience is they are all fine in the beginning and then they go bonkers.

I haven't RTFT but assume The Office (film) clip has been posted.

IKnowAristotle · 22/10/2024 20:34

PC Load Letter- What the fuck does that mean?

Do you mean Epson Eco Tank? No you don't have to use it regularly, as long as you shut it down properly (use the software, don't just turn it off at the plug) it will cover the nozzles and they don't dry out.

dannyufcfan · 22/10/2024 20:36

Might not be viable but only advice would be to use USB and not wifi.

OMGitsnotgood · 22/10/2024 20:38

@Thelnebriati sorry yes Epson ....

Createausername1970 · 22/10/2024 20:42

If you don't need to print in colour then go for a black and white laser.

I currently use a wireless Samsung printer/scanner/copier that is about 7 years old. I buy 3rd party toners for around £20 from Amazon for a two pack.

Fangisnotacoward · 22/10/2024 20:43

I can recommend not getting a Hewlett Packard.
Computer can't find the printer. Always (no matter how little printing you do) low on ink. Taunts you by making printer type noises then just spits blank paper at you. Prints a test page.then jams just to piss you off even more.
God I've got the rage even thinking about it.

Papyrophile · 22/10/2024 20:50

I would agree that buying any printer from HP is a bad idea. I have fewer printer traumas since I bought the Epson. Less complicated, especially if you connect via a USB. It works, and it's far cheaper on ink. Four colour tanks for about £39 has done all our printing for two years or so. I still have some left but probably buying more around Easter next year.

Brother black and white laser printer - one of the cheapest from Argos - has worked sort of for a year now if you are patient

Anything else I use the local printing firm

Brother HL-1112 Mono Laser Printer* 194/6417

Don't bother with air printers-they are crap.

floridaidea · 22/10/2024 20:56

You need to buy a printer cable to usb for it though.
Printer is £85
Cable £4 Amazon prime

TeenLifeMum · 22/10/2024 21:25

We had one that only worked so long as you had their subscription for ink. No clue that that was a thing when we bought it and it was an hp from curry’s. It’s no longer able to find our devices. I’ve given up.

FloydWasACat · 22/10/2024 21:38

HP Envy

DeliciousApples · 23/10/2024 09:01

Go onto qvc and buy one from there?

They have various epsons- from £99 I think, including the eco tank for £229 I think, and the beauty is you have 60 days to try them as much as you want and then you can send them back if they are shit, even having used up all the ink!

Nowhere else do I know that offers that. So you only have to shell out your first easy payment and postage and it's yours within the week.

Four easy payments generally. No interest.

I sound like an ad for qvc but honestly it's great.

You aren't lumbered with some shit item that you've wasted money on and then have to dispose of, you just arrange and pay for postage to send it back.

Yes it'll cost you maybe £15 to return as it's heavy, I don't know, but if I paid over £150 for something it's only 10% and I get all the rest I paid all refunded.

Currently the 60 days is extended until some point in January.

What's not to like.

PS I have a £50 cannon from Argos that I was given and it's been fine providing you have a good WiFi signal.
