To say no to covid vaccine for DS?

Clarabell77 · 20/10/2024 08:55

My DS10 has asthma - mild albeit a chest infection 14 months ago ended up in an overnight in hospital on a nebuliser/steroid and he’s had to have a steroid once during that time for another infection.

He’s been identified as being at risk and offered a Covid vaccine. I’m not sure whether to allow him to have it as I’m sure he’s had Covid quite a few times when we’ve all tested positive at home - can’t test him as he won’t let me near him with a swab. He’s had mild symptoms, even when ours weren’t.

He’s had the flu vaccine twice and taken unwell within weeks on both occasions so I’ve opted out of that one this year. Does anyone have any thoughts on the Covid one? Ideally someone who has actual knowledge, not from YouTube, I’m not a covid denier or anti vaxxer.

AIBU to not get him the vaccine?

Covid vaccine caused my relative to get myocarditis and a pace maker.

How old is your relative, out of interest?

Three friends died of covid. One at 40 who had asthma.
Have the jag.

I can GUARANTEE an anti vaxxer is itching to tell you that you're wrong and then died from something else / with covid.

It's like bingo.

TheRussiansAreComing · 20/10/2024 11:15

@Clarabell77 I could be wrong here, but I doubt you ever consider the risks of the food, drink, snacks and takeaways that your DS consumes. Unless you’re avoiding supermarkets and takeaways then I think you’re naive to avoid vaccines. If you don’t understand how adversely, popular white sliced bread affects your ability to fight illness, virus’ and disease then you probably shouldn’t make a decision that goes against what the professional healthcare providers suggest.

I believe you.

Do not do this. I have a serious, lifelong autoimmune condition from the covid vaccine

And I have a serious, lifelong autoimmune condition from my very mild dose of covid.

Autoimmune diseases are usually triggered by a virus. A vaccine can also trigger it.

Choosenandenough · 20/10/2024 11:23

Do we really have to split this into a ‘you’re clearly a superior being if you never question a vaccine versus you’re thick as shit if you do’ debate? There are risks of myocarditis associated with the covid vaccine amongst young males. That’s a fact. Despite people being told that wasn’t the case earlier in the roll out. Yes all vaccines come with risks. However people were told categorically at the time that the vaccine was safe for all. You actually can’t say that as no vaccine is safe for all and yet numerous medical experts and politicians did in fact say those very words. People are coming from a place of distrust because their trust was broken. I’m not saying this applies to me, I’m just saying that this is the situation and it’s understandable. OP no one can make the decision for you except you. People can tell you not to get it and there could be repercussions for your son, people can tell you to get it and again, there could be repercussions for your son - it’s difficult to decide but ultimately the choice is yours and you have to make the best choice you can based on the information you have.

crumblingschools · 20/10/2024 11:24

You can get myocarditis from COVID too

Don't you just long for the days before vaccines were invented? I mean, no dilemma to be had. What a shame clever people started inventing things to save lives/minimise the effects of a disease

This has to be sarcastic...surely 🤯

Choosenandenough · 20/10/2024 11:25

Yes you can. Hence the reason I said it was a difficult decision.

This is the type of words conspiracy theorists who have swallowed it and disappeared down the rabbit hole use.

'Sheep' 'weak'

Whereas of course you are have more knowledge gained from tic toc, youtubers, X links and batshit spreaders than immunologists, scientists and other lifelong professionals with immense experience and knowledge. I know whom I rather listen to. You sound like Dave down the pub with his zero gcse's and no basic science knowledge. 😂

Do your own research is such a classic anti-vaxxer line. There is a reason you lot don't want to link to the "evidence".

“Anti vaxxer” is a handy (yet wholly inaccurate) slur for the uniformed to throw at those of us who did our own critical thinking.

It’s up to you what you do to your own body of course and by all means encourage (coerce) or guilt trip others. It’s their choice after making their informed decision.

Asking people to do their own research on this thread - in this case - means find the answers to their questions, their own evidence, and not to start a new career as a researcher in order to develop vaccines. I’d have thought that was fairly obvious.

These threads always remind me there’s no arguing with stupid. And you can call me all the lazy slurs you like, it’s QED.

Safxxx · 20/10/2024 11:30

Would you believe I've never had a COVID jab and neither have my kids and we're all fine 🙏

No they weren't. When people went for the vaccine they were given a leaflet outlining the risks.

Yes they were. They were told numerous times in televised public addresses that the vaccine was safe for all. Regardless of whether they were given leaflets at the time of injection, and let’s face it, it’s been strongly implied on this tread that many people are clearly ‘too thick’ to understand said leaflets - we were told on national television in public address that the vaccine was safe for all. That is a fact.

People were told the vaccine was "safe and effective". That is not the same as saying completely risk free. All "safe and effective" medicines have potential side effects.

People were literally told - Priti Patel bring a name that springs to mind - that the vaccine was safe for all. If so many people in this country are as stupid as they’re being made out to be on this thread - maybe they shouldn’t have been told it was safe for all. I’m not debating this further because I am simply telling you what was said at the time. And it was said.

Hancock's announcement on the vaccine. He mentions "safe and effective", not "safe for all".

Patel said it was "safe". I don't know why you are so hung up about "safe for all".

I got the Covid vaccine in 2022 due to the insane and draconian restrictions in Ireland at the time. I haemorrhaged for two days after the vaccine and was diagnosed with very advanced uterine cancer in 2023. I’d strongly advise you to say no to the Covid vaccine.

I'm very sorry for what you are going through

But that has nothing to do with a 10 year old boy with asthma

AyrshireTryer · 20/10/2024 11:57

I can remember the fear.
I can remember the number of the dead increasing day after day.
I can remember the hope when the vaccine was discovered.
How quickly we forget.

VioletCrawleyForever · 20/10/2024 11:57

Why wouldn't you?

Anything to spare my kids getting sick I accept.
