On holiday next week and I’m fat

Aargh. Please can anyone make me feel better? Going on a holiday of a lifetime next week, and I just didn’t stick to the holiday diet. I’m fat 😭

This is going to be an epic trip, with me and DH visiting our DD in Australia. Lots of beautiful hotels booked with pools (we travel around a lot after seeing her), and I’m passable in a cover up, but my bikini bod is a disaster. I had planned to lose weight but didn’t do the diet.

Can anyone gives me some mantras or words of wisdom to look past this?

Instead of being excited I’m just so disappointed in my lack of effort and could bloody kick myself.

My mantra is take comfort in the fact that really no one cares about you or notices you at all (I mean that in a nice way!)
I have never seen a body so memorable I’ve still thought about it 10 minutes later, good or bad. have a great trip 😊

This is brilliant & so true!
Also I’m sure you must of worked hard to make this trip of a lifetime happen so take pride in that & enjoy it to the fullest!

Well, i’m 5’2, a size 18, with an c section scar - and i look fucking great in my swimsuits and bikinis. I buy ones that fit well and that i love, stick on a favourite pair of sunglasses and a big hat, and walk with the self-assured swagger of a fat sofia loren 😁anyone who has a problem with my body is welcome to go fuck themselves.

@Holidayregrets sexiness and style are about attitude and confidence, not size, age, or shape. Live your life to the full in the amazing body that’s been working hard for you for your whole life, made you a mother, given you pleasure, walked and swam and carried things, and given hugs in friends in need. You are perfect just as you are 😊

Don't let insecurity ruin your holiday because then you will really kick yourself when you get back. Everyone else is just going to be focussing on enjoying themselves and not on you, so just focus on enjoying yourself and not on your body.

Mantra - I'm here to make amazing memories not to fixate and create regrets.
If you get caught in your head and thoughts focus on bringing yourself into the present moment, listen to the sounds, look at the sights, feel the sun/wind on your skin to bring you into the present moment.

Have a lovely holiday and don't cover up too much, get the sun on your body and enjoy the feeling of the sun.

BiggerThanJungle · 20/10/2024 07:48

Op, you could be 'fat' and at home rather than headed on an amazing holiday to see your daughter who I bet cannot wait to see you, and just imagine that first hug - You are winning!

Like a pp said, chin up shoulders back and be you, nobody cares what others look like in swimwear they really don't. Your family will remember your laugh, your eyes, your mood and just your presence from this holiday, not your belly. You have mn's permission so give yourself permission too to have an amazing time ❤️

FloordrobeIsGoingToGetME · 20/10/2024 07:49

Hey OP

Get shopping, fast!

If you haven't got great kaftans, flip flops, necklaces, bags and other accessories etc already, get them now.

Being short and squidgy (like myself!) in no way precludes you from being fabulous.

Get a great wardrobe to take with you and look forward to wearing it. You are worth it 💕

I know everyone says who cares but I do when I am at higher end of my weight (i’m always on a diet). I do like to diet before I go away, last week I went to a spa in Europe and lost 6lbs ready to go, and wore a 1 piece. I still need to lose another half stone, hopefully before christmas. Try not to focus on weight and just enjoy time with your loved ones, as that’s what truly matters

You're off on a holiday if a lifetime, you'll be making amazing memories and you'll look back at the photos and all you'll remember is how fantastic it was.

Go for the cover ups if you like, no one will be looking at you.

Also, I'm going there too! In need of Sydney hotel recommendations if you have any. I'll be the little chubby one with a cocktail in a sarong

siucra · 20/10/2024 08:18

Life is short. We all know people who have died too early. We’re so lucky to be here and living. Not to be too serious about it but we all must focus on the now. You’re overweight, so what. You are going on a potentially wonderful trip, one you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Go and enjoy every second. Be your beautiful self, laugh lots and love life! You deserve it.

I'm an Aussie. When I'm home and at the beach I'm covered up to the gills to try to avoid melanoma. Swim leggings, rash vest, broad brimmed hat, the whole bit.

This is not to say you should cover up because your diet didn't work out. Absolutely you should wear a bikini if you want to - everyone should wear a bikini if they want to!! But just also saying that you don't need to wear a bikini to 'fit in'. Irrespective of their shape and size, a huge proportion of Aussies are going to be in full swimsuits, board shorts and rash vests. That's what we do. The slip slop slap message got through loud and clear and most of us have either had skin cancers cut off or know plenty of people who have. Very few people actively try to get a tan anymore either.

So if you're worried about feeling out of place in your tankinis that you already own - don't!! You really don't need to buy bikinis to fit in. Lots of us are in the pale-skinned covered-up tribe - you'll fit right in!

Focus on all the amazing things your body does for you. Everything you love in life, all things that bring you joy—you only get to experience those through the power of your amazing body.

He11oKitty · 20/10/2024 10:51

Honestly OP I lived in Australia for years and I’ve never been so covered up at a beach - the sun is just so hot and the UV is so high! Get a nice cover up and do your skin a favour

slip slap slop ;)

There are so many great one piece swimsuits out there especially designed to flatter the less than perfect bod. Bikinis are an Evil Plot designed to make 99% of women feel inadequate.

One pieces only look amazing on skinny women. They look pretty frumpy on anyone else especially in a really hot country. I wear one to swim in especially this time of year but not on holiday.

Bikinis look better on fatter women because you actually look like a person, not a trussed up blob. Plus it sends the message you don't mind your shape which makes you look better anyway. And it's easier to go for a wee.

Evaka · 20/10/2024 11:03

Have a wonderful holiday OP. I was in Oz earlier this year and people are super laid back and come in all shapes and sizes. Far fewer serious beach bods than I expected.

Also, if your body is working for you overall and in reasonable health, just try so hard to love it. It's a fucking miracle to have a healthy body.

I'm currently supporting my mum with v advanced parkinsons and my 40 something friend who had a double mastectomy last week and the perspective I've gained is pretty powerful..

Elsvieta · 20/10/2024 20:56

Do what Australians do (to avoid skin cancer in the fierce sun) - ditch the bikini and wear a rash vest and board shorts. Forget about it and have fun!

MyOtherHusbandIsAWash · 20/10/2024 21:11

The only person whose opinion matters (except your own) is your husband’s, and i’m sure he thinks you look great in a bikini!

katand2kits · 20/10/2024 21:24

Fat people can go on holiday. There is no size requirement. You are not on the pull. Nobody cares about your fat bits. I am a larger lady. I've been on plenty of holidays. Yes, I do feel uncomfortable in a swimsuit but I put it on and go and have fun on the beach or in the pool with my kids. Often, other fat people are also there having fun. You only live once. Don't waste your holiday worrying about what others think. Most of them won't notice you.
