On holiday next week and I’m fat

Aargh. Please can anyone make me feel better? Going on a holiday of a lifetime next week, and I just didn’t stick to the holiday diet. I’m fat 😭

This is going to be an epic trip, with me and DH visiting our DD in Australia. Lots of beautiful hotels booked with pools (we travel around a lot after seeing her), and I’m passable in a cover up, but my bikini bod is a disaster. I had planned to lose weight but didn’t do the diet.

Can anyone gives me some mantras or words of wisdom to look past this?

Instead of being excited I’m just so disappointed in my lack of effort and could bloody kick myself.

Thank you everyone!! I’ll try to answer some questions

If you were on your death bed next week, would you care that you weren’t as slim as you’d have hoped?

What if it was DH or one of your kids?

Life is so much more.
No one else cares about your weight and neither should you.

I’m not dismissing your feelings as I completely understand how you feel.

I missed out on a lot of things thinking I was too fat and ugly but then I look back at the very rare photos of me and I actually looked great!

Go and have the trip of a lifetime.
Eat, drink, go to the pool and take photos.

Do not even think about your weight, you can deal with it when you get back.

Have a lovely holiday 💐

I'm in a similar position..going away on Thursday and was supposed to lose about half a stone but haven't.

I've found a bikini and beach throw/shirt looks much better than a one piece chic emphasises my menobelly more somehow.

But the comment a poster made re never remembering someone else's body is so true.
Just enjoy yourself, have a ball...I certainly plan to!

NoNoNona · 19/10/2024 21:03

What do you consider fat and how old are you?

Okay, I’m 55 in a few weeks. I’m a size 16. I’m short though ( 5 ft 1) so it really looks bad. I was a size 8 when young 😭

cannot delay the trip, nor would I, it’s been planned for a year.

I am sure your DD would rather have you visit, just as you are, than anyone else no matter how perfect their body. And that your DH would rather go with you, as you are, than anyone else.

That's what matters. Ignore those voices saying you need to be different. You are lovely just the way you are. Your DH and DD love you just the way you are. No need to change.

I’ve no idea why the weight goes all to one place - my tummy. I look like Humpty Dumpty.

Could you delay the trip abroad while you regain some dietary discipline? You might get more out of the holiday if you could shake off some of the weight ?

This is awful!! For god's sake...delay seeing her daughter that lives on the other side of the world to look better in a bikini? Fuck me...can you imagine that conversation?

You look.like you. Which is all that matters to the people who love you.

Just don’t worry about it and enjoy yourself! Life’s too short.

Holidayregrets · 19/10/2024 21:18

Weight distribution is funny, isn’t it? My sister and I are the same size, but her weight seems to be evenly distributed, whereas I seem to have thin legs and thin arms but then this enormous belly which makes me just look ridiculous.

OP posts:
Holidayregrets · 19/10/2024 21:18

But if I stick to a strict diet, the tummy goes away, but that means literally having nothing nice to eat.

OP you are the same height and size as me. I get how you feel but honestly, in my late 40s now and I just don't care anymore. I have a partner, kids and friends that love me. I buy and wear stuff that fits me and suits me. I try to eat well but I've never been thin.. even as a teen at less than 8 stone I was curvy. It's just not in my genes and it hasn't stopped me having two husbands, about a dozen boyfriends and plenty of flirting. The thing that makes the biggest difference to your looks is your smile and confidence. Head up woman! Shoulders back, tits out, great earrings and sparkly sandals.

Mine does too- I have PCOS

Oh OP, I can’t believe you are letting your body image over shadow your actual real life joy. I get you, I’ve done exactly the same but seeing it played out like this is so bloody sad :( Is this what women are reduced to - their weight is the measure of their value and their happiness?
what FUCKING BULLSHIT. Why is it so difficult to live in a female body?
When you are dead your body will rot or burn. Your soul will live forever in the minds of those that love you and it’s your soul that is going on this trip handily encased in flesh for safety :)

idrinkandknowthings · 19/10/2024 21:20

Not a single person other than you will give a flying fuck. So, since no one likes being alone you may as well stop giving a fuck too! Put your bikini on, enjoy yourself and watch the fucks disappear!

SensibleSigma · 19/10/2024 21:21

Are us fatties not allowed to have fun on holiday?

I remember fretting about how I looked in a swimsuit. Then I saw a family having a whale of a time- really enjoying themselves- regardless of the way they looked. I envied their freedom from self consciousness.

So I started trying to practice it.

Having fun on holiday mustn’t be restricted to people who have earned the right by looking good in a swimsuit. We know that doesn’t make sense.

Obviously we want to be at our fittest, but we also want to make the best of the body we have.

Try the swim dress. It works great on belly because it's not tight fabric so it might give you confidence you need to enjoy

My mantra is take comfort in the fact that really no one cares about you or notices you at all (I mean that in a nice way!)
I have never seen a body so memorable I’ve still thought about it 10 minutes later, good or bad. have a great trip 😊

This is very true. I know we all have Main Character Syndrome but realistically we see people of all shapes and sizes all the time and they just blend into the background.

Holidayregrets · 19/10/2024 21:25

Okay so I have bubble hem tankinis that are very forgiving!! Haven’t worn a bikini in decades. Thanks so much everyone, I am going to read this thread a lot.

Op every year I do make a real effort to look good in my holiday clothes and feel my best. Guess what? It makes not a blind bit of difference to the holiday, what I do when I'm away or how my family feels. Also nobody cares. Not one person has ever even commented on my bikinis let alone my body in them! Oh and I've just taken a load of my summer clothes to the charity shop so the 'look' I had carefully curated last year got really boring really quickly! Do not worry, enjoy your trip life really IS too short.
