Anyone else? I feel like everything costs more and more and I’d just like to moan about it. Every day it seems to be something else!

A couple of bits here and there and before I know it £50- £100 is gone for me.

RamblasTapas · 19/10/2024 19:58

What are you spending on ?

TheDandyLion · 19/10/2024 20:02

I feel like I spend money every time I leave the house. I'm staying at home as much as possible right now.

Idlelion · 19/10/2024 20:12

I completely agree. We were half an hour early for something the other day so grabbed coffees and hot drinks which came to £15. Needless. I'll carry a book and drink bottle instead in the future.

Gagaandgag · 19/10/2024 20:24

Oh I know, so easy to call into a cafe for a few drinks, snacks, food etc and be £15-£30 down 😫

NotSoHotMess24 · 19/10/2024 20:37

Urgh, totally know what you mean. Our boys have been hospitalised three times in last month due to sniffles giving them asthma and breathing difficulties. So early in the year too! Also totally broke, having to borrow money for cab fares to hospital and back. So bleak! Weather doesn't help either. I like a museum as much as the next person, but there's a limit. Have been dieting, lost two stone, but have discovered the upside to eating your feelings. I find my outlook is much improved after a pint of wine and block of family sized chocolate!

MerryGrimaceShake · 19/10/2024 20:38

It feels like something has got to give in the UK soon, surely? We can't all go on like this???

We used to have big enough balls to crack out a General Strike and now we just.... sit here and take it????

I might have to start this, and delete the Amazon app from my phone 😂

Hope they are feeling much better. It’s crap having to pay for stuff like that that’s totally unavoidable

I popped into m&s for a few bits today and threw a couple of extra 'nice' things in the basket - came to £54. I know it's m&s but geeze. Won't do that for another six months.

Problem is, we simply can't afford to strike. If I went on strike, I'd immediately be behind on my mortgage, and all other bills. If I had a bit of savings it could be a possibility.

I thought you meant tissues or something 🤣

(I'm sure thr price of them has gone up, too...)

RhaenysRocks · 19/10/2024 22:06

Yep. I was saying this to my dad today. Single parent to two teens. I bought 4 items in Primark today for DD, just jumpers for the winter..£55. quick lunch after her class this morning (it's a 40 minute drive home) so £20 there, plus fuel and a coffee I had while her class was on, beat part of £100. I know there's a lot there I could not spend but I work hard, I'm a graduate, I ought to be able to buy a few cheap clothes, lunch and coffee without worrying too much!

Bluevelvetsofa · 19/10/2024 22:21

Every single time I think there might be a bit of spare cash at the end of the month, something happens and it’s just gone.

I don’t want to go to fancy restaurants regularly, but the occasional takeaway would be pleasant.

Doggymummar · 19/10/2024 22:23

I parked Waitrose three times this week and it cost me 45 a time. The carpark over the road is £11 for 24 hours but my brain tells me that's too much!! Stupid

StrawberrySquash · 19/10/2024 22:24

I'm not sure how new this is. I'm the child of two graduates and this was still spending that was carefully thought about when I was a child. Cafés were treats, clothes were mainly second hand until my teens when I rebelled. Lunch was packed.

There was always enough food, and there was always an emergency fund in the bank, but money was carefully managed. I do feel we expect more of those fun things today. I certainly indulge in plenty myself!

StrawberrySquash · 19/10/2024 22:25

But also the price of things is just getting silly!

Hedonism · 19/10/2024 22:28

Same! Today we’ve spent at least £200 and that’s just on groceries, few PJs for the kids, bday present for kids’ school pal, couple of groceries for dinner.

nosmartphone · 19/10/2024 22:36

Popped into TGI Friday's with our DD yesterday as a 'well done' lunch.

Looked at the menu. Burgers were £24.

For a burger!

Ended up sharing a plate of tacos (£14), a plate of chicken wings (£14) 3 diet cokes (£12) .

£40 for a couple of snacks and a diet coke each.

Made the mistake of taking her to Sephora. 2 lip glosses, a eye liner and a hair treatment later - £70.

The cost of everything is just a joke now. As someone said up thread, leave the house it's £100.

GoldenLegend · 19/10/2024 22:43

Went into M&S today: bag of onions, bag of carrots, three large tomatoes and a bag of coffee beans. £7.40. For mainly veg.

eurochick · 19/10/2024 22:52

I agree. I worked in offices for years and could get a salad, or a sandwich and a snack for around a fiver. It is now double that. I went out for coffee with a colleague and didn't fancy a hot drink so grabbed a fruit juice. I was expecting it to be £2-2:50. It was £3:95! For a small bottle of fruit juice. Supermarket prices are crazy too, and dates seem to have got shorter so we are going more often and spending more. 😡

MeMyCatsAndI · 19/10/2024 22:53

It's going to get a lot worse after the budget and fuel
Goes up again.
