Sick of comments about looking angry/are you okay? Because of my 11s lines

I have 11's lines. My face has fallen a bit. Whatever. I am CONSTANTLY asked whether I am angry, what's wrong, why so frowny by men and women! What's on her mind? Is she okay? WTF! AIBU or is this ridiculous. Does nobody understand that some people have lines between their eyebrows?

I had a 1 rather than 11 but my biggest bugbear was a deep, prominent horizontal frown/expression line across my forehead. Just before my wedding in 2019 I decided to get botox in my forehead and the doctor recommended treating between my eyes too. I can honestly say it the best thing I’ve ever done. I feel so much more confident.

I’m a naturally expressive person so didn’t want to look frozen and I still have loads of movement in the places I want it. Plus with naturally quite saggy upper eyelids, Botox placed properly helps to give my eyebrows a bit of a lift and open up my eyes which helps me look younger and more awake/refreshed.

Since 2019 (with a brief pause during covid lockdown) I get it every 4/5 months, now in 3 areas (11s, forehead and crows feet). I pay £220 for proper Botox (there are cheaper alternative products that have the same effect but I personally am not prepared to scrimp on something that is going into my body) and think it’s worth every penny.

If you’re considering it, do your research before choosing where to go/who to do it. Not all aestheticians are created equal and the good ones will never push you into any procedures that you don’t need / aren’t comfortable with, just to make money.

Happy to answer any questions if you have any.

Which one's the before? I can't tell.

Cookiecrumblepie · 18/10/2024 21:46

Is that a problem?! 😂

Start practicing growling in the mirror. Doubt many will ask again if that's how you respond. 🤣

gillefc82 · 18/10/2024 23:05

@NeverDropYourMooncup I’ll try and take that as a compliment. I think it’s pretty obvious from the pictures but that could be down to how I used to obsess/fixate on the imperfections, especially the forehead furrow!

Before is on the right with my hair back, the after is on the left with the red lipstick. Forehead line smoothed out (so no more fixating on my foundation sitting and gathering in the line), no frown line between the eyes and smoothed out crows feet lines by my eyes. For me, I feel like I look refreshed and makes me more confident in my own skin.

AdoraBell · 18/10/2024 23:05

YANBU - I would reply - thanks I’m ecstatic.

buffyfaithspike · 18/10/2024 23:12

It's annoying
Are you ok? You look tired

Like am I not allowed to be tired and grumpy because I am, so fuck off Grin

I did have Botox after an op. I was in so much pain for months before the op, then I was out of pain but it was etched all over my face and didn't feel like natural ageing. I looked in the mirror and it was just pain showing
Had 3 lots of Botox which has worn off now and then started tretinoin and I'm happy with my skin now

It is pretty obvious. Maybe said person needs spec savers . Looks good by the way .

JaneFondue · 18/10/2024 23:18

Could posters please stop recommending Botox and fillers to OP who has categorically said she doesn't want them? This isn't S and B.
YANBU. And good for you. I detest the shiny egg look.

I got mine botoxed, I hated catching myself scowling away when I wasn't even unhappy!

Totally personal choice though!

Same!!

On teams calls where we are being told of a new process or similar, I've now had people say "I saw your face while it was being explained" or "I could tell you thought that meeting could have been an email" and they couldn't be further from the truth.

I've had it since I was born or at least as long as I can remember but it's clearly getting worse with age. I've just booked in for my first session of Botox and no one's going to have a clue what I'm thinking. Yay! Knowing my luck I'll be frozen in annoyance but it's better than my current look of permanent disdain and despair.

gillefc82 · 18/10/2024 23:21

Thanks @Tourmalines very nice of you to say. I thought there was a chance the comment/question was meant as a dig but decided to answer it genuinely regardless. It’s the weekend after all! 😊

mollyfolk · 18/10/2024 23:22

I've started to Botox my 11 lines. My DH tells me that I look the same but I feel better not looking cross it just doesn't suit my personality.

You sound like you want to embrace your resting bitch face! Nobody will mess with you so.

ProvincialLady24 · 18/10/2024 23:28

I have the most miserable looking mouth. Think cats bum. I'm making an effort to have a vacant Mona Lisa type almost smile to stretch out the wrinkles. I definitely don't want lip filler as I think (and is just my opinion!) that it looks a bit common (for want of a better less snobby sounding word).
Can you do the same for your 11s? Maybe you'll exchange the expression of being pissed off to one of being perpetually mildly surprised?
I don't know. A fringe?
This aging stuff is brutal.
Best of luck.

Mamasperspective · 18/10/2024 23:30

Deep lines can often come about because we (often subconsciously) frown and don't realise it - over time the lines set in. Sometimes it's not a frown but something like concentration.

If that many people are asking you and it really bothers you then look into filler (Botox will soften less pronounced lines but if your 11s are deeper, you would need filler)

You can get some lovely and natural results but do it for you (if you think it will give you confidence)

JaneFondue · 18/10/2024 23:33

By tomorrow morning I expect a 1000 posts recommending the OP shoot her face full of plastic. She is not bothered bu the lines. She is bothered by people's rudeness and the expectation that women look smiley until they die.

CynicalSunni · 19/10/2024 07:07

I know the pain i have resting bitch face. Apparently i always look upset when i'm reading/waiting for the bus/ just going about my business.

Have had men stop and say cheer up and go on about how i should look happy. Actually mostly men

My best friend said she was scared to approach me in class 🤣. Luckily she did and apparently i am very smiley and chatty. Took a while for my husband to get used to. He still asks occasionally if i am ok. Just to be sure

I have tried to train my face to be more 'neutral' but it always transforms into a scowl after a little while.

Is it rude to ask people how they’re feeling? Evolution has programmed people to pick up on expressions. In this case the frown is a facial feature and not an expression but people can’t be expected to know that. OP isn’t coming across an unusually large number of rude people.

I had to zoom in to tell too!

Barney16 · 19/10/2024 08:27

I have Botox and fillers because looking cross all the time made me feel cross. I also looked really tired which made me feel tired.

Nitgel · 19/10/2024 08:30

I try to remember to consciously smile now to ensure I don't embed those lines. People smile back too. ☺️
I ain't putting no shit in my face for other people's perceptions tho.

SelhurstPark · 19/10/2024 08:47

Try Frownies or face taping at night if you want to get rid of 11 lines. Worked a treat for me. If you don't care then just tell them I have a resting bitch face, that works too! 😊

TreesWelliesKnees · 19/10/2024 09:05

@gillefc82 The thing is, you look equally beautiful in both. If anything, those little lines add a bit of depth and character and make you look more like a woman than a girl. Why, as a society, do we feel we have to erase that?

The OP has come on here to discuss a problem with other people. It is interesting how some posters suggest she needs to fix that by changing herself rather than finding a good verbal response for them.

ClytemnestraWasMisunderstood · 19/10/2024 09:07

Tell them it's your resting bitch face, and that it gets worse when peoplexask stupid questions...

Andthesky · 19/10/2024 09:11

Mine are from short sighted frowning, not mood. Opticians have never managed to get my prescription quite right. I also used to get accused of being angry all the time.
So, yes, I did end up getting Botox because it was the only thing that I had control of to stop the comments which I was finding upsetting. To be honest, it has been a bit of a marriage saver. Bit of Botox that he knows nothing about, my face is more relaxed, we are all happier. Which will probably get people frothing about injecting myself for a man. Nah, it was for me because I hated the comments from others, it just had an unexpected benefit for my marriage because he no longer misinterprets my 11s as being annoyed with him!

JaneFondue · 19/10/2024 09:15

Good lord. No frothing but good lord.
Wearing my RBF loud and proud.
