Dh changes around full moon

Wouldhateaspaday · 17/10/2024 22:24

I realise this may sound crazy, but I’ve noticed a change in Dh just before a full moon…no he doesn’t change into a wolf 😁
In all seriousness though, he becomes different, quite angry and mean and a bit out of it really

I work in an office job, every time there's a full moon lots of really bizarre things happen. Fortunately usually entertaining, but this week it's been very overcast so I didn't realise until today that's what's been going on as it's been really whacky the last couple of days.

Nyancat · 18/10/2024 07:02

Working in a school and yesterday was crazy, happens every time!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 18/10/2024 07:16

When I was a nurse working in A&E we could always tell when the moon was full.

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 18/10/2024 08:29

My dd works for the police. Nightshifts are manic when there's a full moon.
At home my cats were tearing around the hall crazily too even the usually sedate 8 year old.

claireismyname · 18/10/2024 10:45

Studies have been done on this topic and there is a definite correlation with the moon and human behaviour. Hospital emergency ward admissions for the results of an upticknin violence is one clear example.

Parkmybentley · 17/10/2024 23:11

Yup violent crime goes up around full moon.

Does it? Because I've seen a study that shows homicides decrease during full moons.

Butteredtoast55 · 18/10/2024 11:34

Not only the full moon but, in many years of teaching, I can confirm that children go wild when it's windy.

Ah, the computers have definitely been playing up at work this week - three major failures. And there was me wondering who had changed something and banjaxed them, when it was the moon all along.

ForPearlViper · 18/10/2024 13:07

I'm sure there was an episode of ER years ago called 'Full Moon Saturday' or similar.

Skyrainlight · 18/10/2024 13:23

The moon affects the tides and humans are largely water so it has an impact. I sleep badly during the full moon, not due to light as I have black out curtains. Crime rates go up on the full moon.

BluebellsareBlue · 18/10/2024 13:38

I'm a retired police officer, we were always aware of when it was a full moon as crimes, violent crimes used to escalate. I once read that our bodies are so many percent water and the gravitational pull off the moon affects our tides and therefore it's also natural that it affects people. No idea how true it is but I can tel you just about every cop is aware when it's a full moon

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1444800/#:~:text=The%20incidence%20of%20crimes%20committed,crimes%20committed%20on%20other%20days.
The incidence of crimes committed on full moon days was much higher than on all other days, new moon days, and seventh days after the full moon and new moon. A small peak in the incidence of crimes was observed on new moon days, but this was not significant when compared with crimes committed on other days.

Yep. Ask anyone who works in a bar, the police, NHS etc and they'll tell you when a full moon hits before they know there is one.

I’m sure the BBC’s More or Less did an episode on this - they confirmed that all those people “saw a change” at the full moon, but stats-wise the programme couldn’t actually see any higher rates of violence/crime/poor behaviour. They said it looked very much like a myth we’ve sold ourselves so convincingly that we all believe it now.

It's a saying in A&E (or at least it was in the 80s/90s) "Full Moon, Saturday night" - the combination of the two worst times that they dreaded.

Stinksmum · 18/10/2024 15:43

At my Woman's only exercise class last night a few of the Ladies were saying they always felt different in themselves on a full moon.

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 18/10/2024 18:26

It's called 'confirmation bias'

indignatio · 18/10/2024 20:08

Agree with the cats being affected too.

Woodworm2020 · 18/10/2024 20:13

My Dad is the same - we could always tell when it was going to be a full moon growing up.
My friend also noted that her toddlers go a bit ‘crazy’ during this time!

Dearg · 18/10/2024 20:18

Well I think I read that there are more car accidents around a full moon. My male dog definitely has a reaction - more arse-y basically, although now he is too old for it to show .

twoshedsjackson · 18/10/2024 20:27

I agree with fellow teachers!
Also true about the wind; apparently horses can "get the wind up their tails" as well.

deeahgwitch · 18/10/2024 22:51

My bil ( medical doctor ) worked in A&E when training.
He said it was a thing.

Hazeltwig · 18/10/2024 23:07

My next door neighbour gets vivid nightmares when there is a full moon.

teatimelover · 18/10/2024 23:26

I read that there are more car crashes too when there's full moon.

Parkmybentley · 17/10/2024 23:11

Yup violent crime goes up around full moon.

I've heard more accidents happen and A&E visits go up too on a full moon. Of course it's impossible to work out cause and effect, do people act this way subconsciously because at some level people believe these things will happen or do they just happen anyway. Like if you have an accident on Friday the 13th youll focus more on the fact its Friday the 13th when it could have happened any day.
