To think people should keep their opinions to themselves sometimes?

A girl at my work said to me

'If I found out I was pregnant I would have the test, and if there was anything wrong with it I would abort it'

What the fuck am I meant to say to that? I just said 'oh, right' and walked off.

Then, I came back and proceeded to chat to another girl who was working about our sisters, who both have SN (the girl who made the comment did not know that, BTW)

Seriously, are all 'opinion' valid, surely people wouldn't make comments like that to folk they hardly know, and whose circumstances they don't know?

Well, no, but it is my responsibility to ensure she is happy at work, is it not?

Maybe I should just not care. She'll have to learn herself from the situation.

I just don't like breeding bitchiness in the workplace, and thought it would be an idea to have a word, rather than leave the gossips to it.

Just leave it. I dont think she needs you to have a word, she just needs to grow up, she's 19 and clearly a bit clueless but she IS entitled to her opinion she will learn in time that not all thoughts should be voiced.
But this is not really a work issue. You were having an informal chat.
If she was now shunned becuase of this it would be a real shame and could be construed as workplace bullying.
I can understand why you were shocked but I really think you should let it lie.

Exactly, it could be construed as bullying, hence my concern to try and sort it out.

But if everyone thinks its better to leave it unmentioned, I will.
