Do you ever feel proper shame when…

Eating a maccy Ds. I was in Waterloo, a little tipsy, had the choice between an M&S feta crumb & lemon quinoa salad - or a quarter pounder with cheese/9 chicken nuggets/large fries/apple pie/Diet Coke combo…. guess which one I chose -

So I stood there with my brown bag of delight, throwing every morsel into my mouth with great pleasure yet immense shame - whilst all of the “others” with their tousled hair, cycled shorts, salads, wraps walked past in horror - their mouths turned up in disgust at my frenzied eating ways - proper eye contact and all

i should feel shameful

But it was so good - so I don’t give a sh&t

I've never understood people placing similar orders to the OP and then having a diet coke.

I always get Diet Coke because I prefer it. Standard Coke tastes too sugary.

Also, it’s not why I buy it, but it does reduce the overall calories consumed. By your logic, if you’re having a burger, you might as well batter and deep fry it, because hey, it’s unhealthy, so might as well go the whole
hog.

Edingril · 16/10/2024 00:01

No because I am not insane

MissPeaches · 16/10/2024 00:24

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 15/10/2024 23:21

Do you actually know these people you say walked past you looking on in horror? Because unless you do actually know them and are personally aware that they are all up themselves - I can promise you that no one gives a flying fuck what you are eating. Imagine ... thinking that strangers could actually care what you are eating.

Yeah this. Nobody cares about you or what you are eating.

StrongFemaleCharacter · 16/10/2024 00:52

Don't ever feel shame for what you eat when you are tipsy.

MonsteraMama · 15/10/2024 23:29

This is giving strong "I'm not like the other mumsnetters" vibes.

Literally no one on the street cares about you snarfing a load of maccies. You're only the main character in your story.

This exactly. Yay you OP 🙄

Diet Coke is not some attempt to control calories, though. I can’t stand the taste of full fat, it tastes sour to me and I hate how my teeth feel after.

RenoDakota · 16/10/2024 08:12

No-one cares (or even notices) what random strangers are eating.

Buildingthefuture · 16/10/2024 08:12

Nope, no shame for me. I had a Big !ac last week, was delicious! I fit it into my macros, continued on with my day and still lost 3lbs in the week. It’s just food.

AspirationalTallskinnylatte · 16/10/2024 08:13

What is the moral aspect that you'd be ashamed of?

Sethera · 16/10/2024 08:15

I'm a Burger King gal, but I'd probably envy you anyway if I walked past.😀

Full sugar Coke tends to leave you thirsty, and unless you can clean your teeth straight afterwards, isn't a dental-friendly drink.

Willoo · 16/10/2024 08:15

No and anyone who judges you are twats.

TriangleSquareFringe · 16/10/2024 08:19

When I was younger I got drunk and had an eating competition with a random Australian guy in McDonald's. I ate 9 cheeseburgers and won! It was one of my most proud moments!

That sounds really fun and like the things I would get up to 😁

I eat maccie Ds and pot noodles sometimes. #proud.

Boobygravy · 16/10/2024 08:21

I love a McDonalds milkshake and their cheapest chicken mayo burger bun thing.
Plenty of pp’s demolish a bottle of wine and pizza, crisps and peanuts every weekend.
In moderation goes for everything.

Cleaning your teeth straight after is the worst thing.
Best is to rinse your mouth with water.
Brushing after acidic food and drink brushes the enamel off your teeth, you should wait at least 20 minutes.

marshmallowfinder · 16/10/2024 08:26

I couldn't give a shit. I'd prefer to sit with my back to other people in Mcds anyway. Stop looking at them. It takes 2 to make eye contact. Eat what you choose and don't waste a good meal by feeling guilty.

redhatpurplehair · 16/10/2024 08:27

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 15/10/2024 22:51

A Big Mac meal on its own probably had less calories than the salad. The extras are a bit much and I can eat and I'm rather partial to McDonald's.

Doubt it.

However it almost certainly was full full of UPF - which although people think is 'food' is actually chemically produced edible products.

Notfeelingtiptop · 16/10/2024 08:29

I expect OP is thinking of the passers by being Mumsnetters who are quite competitive with eating and weight and judge anyone who is a pound overweight of personally destroying the NHS and take pride in negative judgement of those who don't conform to their perfect standards of what you should eat and how you should look and the sacrifices you must make to achieve it.

Doubt anyone really cared though @Namechangedforthis25 no one thinks about you as much as you do (meant nicely 😊) most people are too wrapped up in themselves.

I don't like full fat coke I'm not being calorie or health conscious if I'm eating a rare Maccies really, I just don't like the full fat flavour 🤷🏼‍♀️ and it's not really that much food for a main meal, starter, main & dessert, as a one off. Sure it's not a snack but I work in a restaurant and people eat similar amounts all the time - it's just more acceptable when it's in a nice restaurant, being waited on rather than out of a paper bag with the golden arches!

Didimum · 16/10/2024 08:29

I’d probably feel jealous if I’m honest.

menohnopausal · 16/10/2024 08:34

From what you've described it was possibly the way you were eating rather than what you were eating. "Throwing" it in, in a "frenzy" sounds a bit gross. I'd probably look askance of someone was eating an apple that way!

Twentybottlesofbeer · 16/10/2024 08:37

Whaat? I can make M&S at Waterloo into a whole retail experience! I've bought clothes there in the past that weren't an emergency!

And OP - I would thoroughly have given you daggers. Because mcds smells like puke, and you would have carried that smell into the late night train to merge with the smells of pasties etc. Eating smelly food on trains should be banished.

HorsesDuvets · 16/10/2024 08:39

"Eating a Maccy D's" would have easily fitted in the thread title.

But then you wouldn't have got the clickbait title you wanted...

🙄

Kendodd · 16/10/2024 08:41

Yes I do.

It's like taking drugs, you know you shouldn't do it, wouldn't want your parents or boss to know, but it's sooo good!

FootbalIslife · 16/10/2024 08:44

I love a McDonald’s! I’m very sporty so people are surprised, but it’s my guilty pleasure.

I don’t feel ashamed when I get one, I’ve got fast food in train stations loads of times and wouldn’t give it another thought.

GoldenPheasant · 16/10/2024 08:47

Nodlikeyouwerelistening · 15/10/2024 23:35

McDonald’s at Waterloo is literally always rammed. No one was judging you unless you were making some strange noises.
In fact if you got off the tube to catch a train you need to walk past McDonald’s to get to the escalator up to the main station, and then walk all the way to the other end to get to M&S. Then when you get there, there are no guarantees they have any good salads left. M&S at Waterloo is only for lunch or cans of G&T when the night isn’t quite over.

There's two M&Ss at Waterloo, roughly at each end of the main concourse.

MaggieBsBoat · 16/10/2024 08:47

The other night I was in a not dissimilar situation and ended up in KFC. I’m a lifelong vegetarian so never had KFC. I discovered the vegan chicken burger. I am salivating just typing this out. It was like the angels sang. I was determined to have another the next day. I didn’t. My kids have assured me that the people probably accidentally gave me chicken but I obviously can’t tell!!!
