To think that surgery is the only way to correct saggy eyelids?

My eyelids have got so saggy in the past few years and I feel like it's aging me a lot. Am I right I think surgery is the only thing that will help with this? Or is the any non-surgical options to improve it? (Eg Botox)

Botox in the forehead helped mine a bit. Not totally but it does pull the skin on the forehead tight so it lifted my eyelids up but yeah I feel the same, feel really old and tired looking.

Filler in your temple could be an option, because it’s like scaffolding for the whole area. However, there does seem to be a bit of a debate on how safe filler is currently. I would take to a reputable doctor and see what they say.

I don't know anything about botox, but my mother had terrible saggy eyelids, and recently she had surgery to correct it, with marvelous results.
It was for practical reasons too, she had problems with her eyesight because of the eyelids hanging down. Now her problems are gone, and she looks great!
She is 70 years old.

Ifailed · 14/10/2024 21:16

Unless they are obscuring your vision, why bother, unless it's about vanity?

There is nothing vain about wanting to look and feel your best.

limitededition555 · 14/10/2024 23:04

Ooh thanks, I've never heard of these. Have you used them? Wouldn't you be able to see them when you blink?

Hmm strange response. I don't think I'm vain, but thanks anyway!

Amazing, good for your mother. Is it a fairly minor surgery?

OP posts:
SkaneTos · 14/10/2024 23:49

Yes, I think it was a fairly minor surgery.
My mother had one consultation with the doctor a couple of months beforehand.
Then on surgery day I think the whole thing took around 2 hours.
A week later she had her follow-up appointment.
The area around her eyes was swollen for around a month afterwards, but it healed really well, and now it looks great, and she is very pleased.

Like I wrote, for her the surgery was for both aesthetical and practical reasons. She did not like the way it looked, with her drooping eyelids, and they also gave her trouble with her vision. It was also an irritating feeling for her, with the saggy eyelids. She is happy that she had the surgery done.

Unless OPs eyelids are affecting you, why bother to respond like this?

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 15/10/2024 01:04

Hi OP. You can fiddle and faddle about all you want with Botox, creams, tape but ultimately, the only thing that will get rid of the excess skin is surgery. Find a reputable surgeon that is a proper plastic surgeon or oculoplastic surgeon and go for it. If others think it’s vanity, ignore them. You’ll be shocked at the improvement.

CatsndtheBear · 15/10/2024 01:07

I get botox, specifically what a lot of places advertise as a "botox brow lift". Botox in certain areas of your forehead can make it much worse so you have to go to somewhere good.

It isnt as dramatic a result as surgery but it does noticeably improve the droopiness and makes me feel so much better about myself. I get a ton of conpliments after i get it done. Usually people saying i look happier. I think the droopy eyelids make my face look scowly hahahaha

coxesorangepippin · 15/10/2024 02:26

There was a woman on here in S&B that documented her upper bleph, I'll see if I can find it

I agree with this wholeheartedly, don’t waste your money on anything because nothing will work, surgery is not really that super expensive so save your money and go for it. Research, research, and research the best surgeons and go on realself.

so helpful , not .

Lostsadandconfused · 15/10/2024 02:57

Botox really isn’t a substitute for an upper eyelid bleph. If you have a substantial amount of sagging no amount of Botox will raise your brows that high, and would you want that?

FantaIsFine · 15/10/2024 06:09

I had a blepharoplasty a year ago (upper only) as it was really getting to me and the sagging was really bad. I was holding my eyelids up when watching TV.

It has been amazing and I have been thrilled with the result. It didn't hurt, I had it under general (surgeon doesn't do it under local but I know it can be done) and although I looked like I'd been in the ring, for a couple of weeks meh, I just kept video off on conf calls.

I'd share my diary but it's obviously a bit outing!!!

Absolute game changer I look so much younger and feel so much more attractive. I highly recommend it.

FWIW separate to the OP but connected I have quite bad under eye bags too but the lower bleph surgery sounded quite scary. However I was recommended to drink tons of water and also buy a jade roller. They aren't much more than a fiver on Amazon and are quite nice and relaxing to use too.

Upper bleph was about 3.5k privately. If you/anyone are SW London I can happily post my surgeon details.

ArcticBells · 15/10/2024 06:21

@FantaIsFine I've had lower eyelid surgery for huge under eye bags and it really wasn't scary at all. It was life changing as I'd been so self conscious about them.

FantaIsFine · 15/10/2024 07:03

Thanks @arcticbells I might consider it again! (And save up). Upper has been so great. Although the bags are nowhere near as bad as my eyelids were.

I'm also rubbish at drinking water which I really ought to do anyway and assess what difference it makes!!!

Appreciate the feedback, food for thought indeed 😀

Ooh thanks, I've never heard of these. Have you used them? Wouldn't you be able to see them when you blink?

I use them because I have hooded eyes, one more so than the other. You don't see them as they are transparent and they are sort of hidden by the folds of skin anyway. I put them on after eye shadow. They might not give you the results you want but they are so cheap and make a difference to me as I have one lazy eye so I just put it in that one and it evens it out.

LorettyTen · 15/10/2024 07:14

I'd like to have my upper eyelids done. The left is more droopy than the right but I get a really annoying sensation when I'm reading.
There is a clinic near me that's based in a hospital, it does cataracts, laser treatments etc. but also blepharoplasty by a consultant oculoplastic surgeon.
It's got great reviews, it's probably expensive but I think it would be worth it.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 15/10/2024 07:22

I would love eyelid surgery as I have hooded eyes. However, in the meantime I have Botox which gives a nice eyebrow lift and also bought a Nuface which I have been using at least 5 times a week. This also really lifts the brow and lessens the ‘hood’. I use it in the morning before I go to work and it makes me look much more awake.

I think all those women looked fine (and shockingly young!) before surgery and slightly startled afterwards.

@limitededition555 spend the money on therapy to learn to accept your natural aging. All surgery comes with risks, unless there is significant loss of vision why would you want to risk permanent scarring or loss of your eyesight when your eyes currently work perfectly well? We shouldn't be normalising cosmetic surgery, hopefully people in the future will look back and think the explosion in cosmetic procedures in the late 20th and early 21st century in the west was as oppressive as we think foot binding or the wearing of corsets was.
