Blackout curtains

Hernamewaslola22 · 11/10/2024 22:54

Where can I get proper blackout curtains that aren't expensive? Want to decorate whole room eventually

OP posts:
BreadMachine · 11/10/2024 22:57

We've got a few pairs of ikea ones and they're really good and are fully blackout.

treacledan71 · 11/10/2024 22:58

Look at studio catalogue. I got some on sale from there.

LittleGreenDragons · 11/10/2024 23:12

Dunelm. If you already have curtains then just buy the liners. If you don't have any then also look at the thermal curtains as well as blackouts as they reduce light too.

TheBelleOfBelfastCity · 11/10/2024 23:13

I got DD’s from Next. They are absolutely fantastic, look lovely and keep the room very dark - teenager who likes to sleep in until noon approved!

Make sure to size up for the full blackout effect.

Thiswayorthatway · 11/10/2024 23:14

Your DC is going to have to sleep somewhere without blackout curtains at some point.

Not sure what your point is?

If you want something cheap and temporary then tin foil works

Where did the OP say they were for the dc.

JC03745 · 11/10/2024 23:17

I have ones from dunelm which are great. The key though, is how close the curtain rail it to the wall, and how far it overhangs around the window. If there are large gaps between the wall and curtain rod, you will get a halo affect around the window- no matter how black out the actual curtain is.

That's why I've got a roller blind aswell as black out curtains

Same comment applies to adults anyhow.

Next eyelet ones are good.

MumChp · 11/10/2024 23:20

We have from IKEA. Works fine.

Where adults post. Houses can also have streetlights directly outside, or twattish neighbours who light up the entire neighbourhood. So your point is?

Us too. Blind plus curtains works very well.

I have a memory foam mattress. Like blackout blinds, I can’t take it everywhere with me either. Do the 2 weeks out of the year that I’m not at home mean that I shouldn’t maximise comfort in my own bedroom, or that of my child? Don’t be so ridiculous..

You know some adults prefer to sleep in the dark too? I can sleep with a dim night light on all night, but as soon as the first rays of natural light appear on a summer's morning I'm wide awake, and while I don't mind an early start, 4.30am is a bit keen.

Following as my blackout Roman blind doesn't quite cut it for our north east facing bedroom window. I need curtains too.

So? Your point is what?
Lots of people prefer to sleep in the dark but are capable of sleeping in lighter conditions 🤷🏻‍♀️ doesn't mean they shouldn't have blackout curtains.
Some people work nights and need to sleep in the day and want blackout curtains

OP in answer to your question I'd look at IKEA or Dunelm both sell both blackout curtains and liners at a reasonable price

My DH goes by this view - it's better to learn to sleep in the light for when you need to. As a result, I've had 5 years of waking up stupidly early in the summer because it is light, even wearing an eye mask. DD has also been waking up mega early and now isn't. Neither of us have learnt to sleep in the light.

We now have the option to replace curtains and I'm taking it! I'll take good sleep for the 95% of time we are at home and cope with the occasional time elsewhere rather than months of disrupted sleep to 'learn'!

Skyrainlight · 12/10/2024 11:05

I got some from Dunelm a few years ago.

Of course, it's the kids that are taking Ozempic, having trouble with their neighbours and are in bad heathenships with their husbands too. 🙄

SlipperyLizard · 12/10/2024 11:17

@CheeseWisely I’m similar, and until recently really struggled in summer when we’d want the window open as it was too hot but then I’d be woken at stupid o’clock by the dawn sunlight. I decided to try a sleep mask and it has genuinely changed my life (that, and snoreze spray for DH!). We had the window open all summer but the sun didn’t wake me. I have these ones (was too cheap to try the expensive ones pushed on Facebook, as I was really sceptical that I could sleep with a mask). Wish I’d found these when we were regularly camping!
