AIBU to ask a woman not to let her dog crap on the pavement?

I was walking with my buggy yesterday and a woman of about 25 was chatting on her mobile phone while her dog poo-ed copiously on the pavement (about 5 yards from a nursery).

I am sick of dodging dog poo all the time - it's everywhere, it gets on the wheels of my buggy and therefore into my house, and scraping it off my son's shoes isn't much fun either.

I asked her politely not to let her dog do that as it was a health hazard. She said repeatedly how she ALWAYS cleared it up at which point I said, great, thanks, and walked off.

She shouted after me that I was a "nosy bitch" and I turned round and said I wasn't, thanks very much, but I didn't see why it should get in my house, or make my children ill.

I was so angry and wondered if I should have intervened at all.

It may have been me who commented on the poo hanging in tree thread elsewhere.

I witnessed it on a lovely walk through a forestry commission area. The forestry commission had provided poo bins and constructed the paths so that buggies and wheelchairs could get round.

So about 20 feet after the poo bin there was a huge dump of poo right in the middle of the path! Why???? How easy would it have been to get a stick (this is the forest remember)and wheech it into the scrubland where it would have decomposed and no-one ever treads. Another 20 feet on there was a tree that was like a shrine to dog poo with wee plastic bags hanging all over it. What is the fecking point of putting it in a bag if you leave it where everyone can still see it and it has no chance of decomposing.

I was livid - it was so selfish. Someone in a wheelchair could not have avoided the one on the path.

To answer the question of pooing or weeing on command. After a quick google is seems fairly common, not just police dogs. Owners would have to put in a lot of effort and patience but it can be done.

I'm not sure if this is common elsewhere but in Singapore where I live, most local dogs are 'paper trained' ie. the owner carries a few sheets of newspaper and when the dog needs to go they put the paper under its rear end and it does it on the paper - I don't know though if the dog has been trained to do it on command, or the owner has to watch the dog and look for signals that it's about to let one go!

BTW Serendippity, my sister has a weimeraner; they are just the loveliest dogs aren't they? He has some minor toilet issues, and if he needs to poo when they're out she has to stand still and not walk off or he'll get panicky and chase after her while still doing his business!

How do you pick up the poo if your dog has the runs?? When i was 17yrs old i worked in kennnels over the summer and that job was literally "shit", as i spent most of the morning picking up dog poo with a spade and the dogs with runny bottoms were imposible to clean without copious amounts of water and disinfectant.
And what happens in woodland? do people pick up the poo and take it home or just chuck it in the bushes?
I'm not a dog owner by the way

Love the Singaporean model - I might give up the day job and start a business selling specially-designed, extra absorbent paper for doggy bums. It will come with its own handles so you can tie it all up at the end and dispose of it in special doggy bins

Furrycat - I am sure there is a market for that!!

ripeberry - I think the key here is if your dog has the runs / dodgy tummy, you make sure he is coralled to the garden / woodlands.......
