Aibu to be annoyed at the painter leaving my new bathroom like this?

I've just bought my first house which is a new build and it's just been finished. I went around yesterday to check over everything and make sure I've a note of all the snags prior to sale closing.

The interiors painting was organised by my builder who got the painters in to do all the rooms.

I checked my downstairs toilet and saw that someone has used it, (for a no2) and not cleaned it particularly well. Like they obviously flushed it but there was still skid marks and disgusting stuff left in bowl.

I had to go and buy a brush and some bleach and a scrub it out myself as wasn't happy to leave it sitting like that.

I was annoyed at that but what also really annoyed me was that it was obviously the painter has used it because he also left a bloody big smudge of paint on the seat, the porcelain underside of it.

This is a brand new bathroom and I'm fucked off that he not only used it and didn't have the wit to leave it as clean as he got it but also left paint on it that I now have to sort.

Aibu to be pissed off about this? I'm meeting my builder today to run over some last minute stuff and feel like I should mention it to him as he should have a word with his builder to have a bit more respect for peoples property 🤔

The leaving of paint in your brand new home is unacceptable. If it doesn’t wipe off ask for builder to rectify. Building is very stressful. I have built twice and by the end my DH wouldn’t speak to builder and I had to get very shitty about the leavings of various workmen. It’s so much money practically 1/3 lifetime commitment to paying for it of course you want it perfect. My builders were
using my 30k$ fireplace as a literal trash can. Then the painter got paint on the timber frames beams…the showpiece of the house..in more than one area. Appalling. I used the expression….this IS my home and I want it treated respectfully.

Same way he presumably wiped his own arsehole.

So you would stick your hand into toilet water and wipe it off would you? 🤢

Charlize43 · 13/10/2024 14:53

People do need to shit... Is this your first home?

If you had no toilet brush, how was he supposed to clean the toilet?

I'm amazed some people on here don't realise this but unpleasant as it is you can wipe skid marks away without a brush. To state the bleeding obvious, you flush the loo so there's only clean water down there, take a wodge of folded over loo roll and put you hand in, below water level if necessary and wipe. Flush again and wash your hands thoroughly. Not the nicest thing to do but no direct contact with poop either. He could have done that.

Not sure what the difference is between wiping your bum and cleaning poo off the side of the toilet once it's been flushed.
I think it's disgusting of him to loot like that

italianlondongirl · 13/10/2024 15:00

Leave it like that

You can’t see the difference between wiping your own arse and sticking your hand in shitty water and wiping it off the bowl? As if there is shit on the side then it’s in th4 water after a flush.

italianlondongirl · 13/10/2024 15:10

He should still have done so, however unpleasant, rather than leaving it for someone else to find and deal with.
It's his shit after all

italianlondongirl · 13/10/2024 15:11

Also the water itself would be clean after flushing, so he'd just be getting rid of the skid marks
Whereas when OP returned, they had dried so required bleach

That’s disgusting.

As is leaving shit all over someone else’s new toilet.

Of course. Flush. Clean clod of paper, wipe the bowl below the water, flush again, wash hands.

What is wrong with people on here?! You all changed your babies’ nappies right?

Yep exactly this. And the reason I had to go out and get a brush and bleach was because becasue the painter did not wipe off remains of his shit at the time. Fresh shit is easier to wipe off than dried in for two days shit.

And yes there are bigger problems in the world but I wouldn't leave anyone's toilet with my shit in it, or leave paint smears on their toilet fittings, I'm paying these guys good money and I don't expect to have to clean up their shit after them.

Anyone else wondering what he wiped his bum with? 😬

Julimia · 15/10/2024 12:58

What good is it going to do you by getting annoyed.?Clean it up, move on and make your strong complaint in the appropriate direction. End of.
