Bathroom Refurb- how long?

user657865337 · 06/10/2024 19:26

Just looking for opinions here. We are looking to get our average sized (possibly small) bathroom room replaced and have been told it will take 3 weeks minimum... AIBU to think this is wayyy too long??
We will remove all of the the existing tiles and Lino floor prior to starting so that leaves:
-Tiling (full height walls and floor)
-New bathroom suite (bath, sink and toilet)
-replace electric shower (over bath)
-new radiator

4 weeks

billysboy · 06/10/2024 19:27

May be out in two if no agg

WorldMap24 · 06/10/2024 19:27

That does sound long. We had ours done in two weeks.

samarrange · 06/10/2024 19:28

What's the state of the plumbing? Will the shower/taps/radiator all be hooked up to existing pipes?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 06/10/2024 19:28

My tiny bathroom took the best part of two weeks.

BakedBeansforabrain · 06/10/2024 19:29

Ours was done in 10 working days, no weekends.

started on Monday finished the week after on the Wednesday couldn’t use it though until Friday to let the silicon seal set

full strip out and full floor to ceiling tiles

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/10/2024 19:29

We've been told 2 weeks and we're not even removing the tiles before they start. 4 weeks seems a long time.

4 weeks

That’s way to long

TreeCake · 06/10/2024 19:32

We had a small bathroom and small en suite shower room taken out and replaced and the total time was 13 days for both. This was one person with a labourer for around 4 days.
The shower room wasn't tiled on the walls, just the floor (has panels on the walls).

BIossomtoes · 06/10/2024 19:34

It took two weeks for our bathroom and shower room. Two showers, a bath, two basins, two loos but no tiling.

Yes the intention is that it's all to be reused

Seems very long. I've just had similar done but no wall tiles shower toilet sink radiator floor and a few electrics done after about a few with a few jobs to finish off so I'd say in reality maybe 9 working days. This was two of them some days one on a couple of the other days

CranfordScones · 06/10/2024 19:39

Removing tiles doesn't leave a smooth wall, so the walls will almost certainly need attention. If that involves any new skimming, then it may be weeks before you can tile over it.

lobsterkiller · 06/10/2024 19:41

My tiny bathroom took 3 weeks. However, we took it back to brick and took the ceiling down to insulate as the ceiling is sloped, before boarding. I also had a wetroom in. So lots to do rather than a straight swap and tiling.

LoobyDoop2 · 06/10/2024 19:43

Should be two. Ours took five.

Noodlesnotstrudels · 06/10/2024 19:45

What sort of tiles have you chosen? Our tiny bathroom took just over a week - maybe 10 days (excluding repainting the non tiled areas), but we used large tiles. They told us if we wanted subway style tiles, it would take longer (and cost more for labour etc). Two guys. They were on a deadline to get it usable before finishing on Christmas eve! 😅

bluecomputerscreen · 06/10/2024 19:52

2 weeks minimum. depending on how much time is needed for demolition.

plus some steps need drying time before being able to continue.

Zeb81 · 06/10/2024 19:55

I had a full refurb, full removal, replaced plasterboard, moved plumbing and full fit out. Started Monday morning finished Friday afternoon and only the plasterer was there one evening everything else done in day time

Emmentalia · 06/10/2024 20:20

Gosh, I feel naive but I had no idea it took so long! How do people manage with washing if you only have one bathroom??

samarrange · 06/10/2024 20:30

Huh. Can you ask for a time breakdown? I'm guessing that most of it will be tiling and otherwise setting up the room. Installing a shower or sink is not a huge job.

Octavia64 · 06/10/2024 20:35

Two weeks for mine.

Ilovemyshed · 06/10/2024 20:36

2-3 weeks. Pipes will need some adjustment regardless that you are keeping the positioning the same.

Many unknowns in a bathroom refurb, depends what is underneath and how well it was done before. Are they plastering? Are they tanking floor? Tiling tjme depends on size of tiles and how many fiddly cuts.

LostittoBostik · 06/10/2024 20:37

If they say three it will be longer. We were told three. It was seven.

But I think you're being unrealistic as even our smallish en suite was 3 weeks.

Will add that the seven was because awful plumbing issues were discovered once the old one was ripped out, so nobody's fault

Antihistamine62 · 06/10/2024 20:38

3 weeks!!!!!!!
companies in Glasgow can do a full bathroom turnaround in 3 days!
