To absolutely HATE wearing glasses?

I started needing glasses for both distance and reading around a year ago. Probably sooner than that actually but I put off going to the opticians for a long time.

I have varifocals, and they do their job in as much as I can see, but I HATE wearing them so much.

I hate having something touching my face all the time. I feel hassled by them as constantly aware of them. I’ve tried multiple styles and sizes and took ages to settle on a pair I can tolerate and they all constantly slide down my nose. Even the lightest frames feel heavy.

Ive got a trial for contacts coming up but because of my vision and my rugby ball shaped eyes I have to have “special” ones of those which are extremely expensive.

I’m not sure what I’m posting for but just to vent I guess.

arrrgghhhhh

Very short sighted, have smart lens varifocals and I love my glasses, have a few brightly coloured frames, with the magnetic sunglass overlays. I have frames that suit the prescription of my lens, which means that I can have the lenses thinned right down (a good optician / optical lab will advise on shape of frames to enable you to have a good result with thinning) so they are not heavy and I choose my optician carefully, as some really have no idea and will flog you anything, or frames that are not right for your prescription and also not have the technical expertise for advice on lens thinning. No, they are not cheap, but very light and definitely do not slide or move once on and I often forget I am wearing them, but that's because they are light and fit correctly. I don't get on with contacts, so gave them up years ago.

Had lenses removed and varifocal lenses stitched in 7 years ago best money I've ever spent - no more glasses!

What company was this with please

I have worn them since I was 5 - no problem. Could you be making a mountain out of a molehill?

I HATE them too. Can only agree with what others have said. I enquired about laser surgery, but was told because of my age (50) I'd have to have a procedure where they slice off the front of the eye/eyeball/retina? and insert a silicone lens. 😳Suddenly my glasses didn't seem so bad.. I'm not a vain person, but I feel really self conscious in them. I wish they could invent something other than contacts to replace them! I don't fancy contacts, too fiddly, I'd have to take my glasses off to see the contact lens - but then I'm blind, and well, I like having acrylic nails too much. sigh

Plastic, esp brightly coloured are fine for me. I do have a heavier duty metal framed cheapie £20 framed pair from Boots for when doing something outdoorsy there the plastic might get broken.
Otherwise I channel my inner Prue Leith and rock the bright colours.

I also have astigmatism and the lenses aren't that expensive? I never wear glasses either. I cannot get them comfortable near my nose and can't stand any pressure on my face. And the arms at the side of my head give me headaches. I dread it if i have to wear them for any reason and can't manage more than a couple of hours.

Hi folks. I'm imagining that you are a lot younger than I am at 60. I need glasses for reading and screen work but at my age it's nearly universally standard. Most people wear them all the time. So I actually like the fact that my glasses are not a permanent change to my face and you can get some very cool and funky frames. Think architects and designers - the chunky coloured frames suit me and my style, For me it's a plus. And then I take them off and I'm just me.

My neighbour has just had cataracts sorted - she was mortified that her kitchen was so grubby and she couldn't see it before!
