To wonder how people are still making money from scentsy?

cantthinkofausername26 · 05/10/2024 13:51

I know at least 10 scentsy consultants and 4 or 5 who have actually quit their jobs to do it full time. How are they still making money?? Do people still actually buy it? I haven't bought any for about 2 years.. I can't imagine it's high up on anyone's list of priorities in the current climate. But still the social media posts keep coming and the 'lady boss' tags. Baffled.

Loans, their partners financing it

BoobyDazzler · 05/10/2024 13:53

I had a mate that legitimately made 60k a year on scentsy a couple of years ago. No idea how she’s doing now as not seen her for a while and unfollowed her on social meadow as the Boss Babe stuff is exceptionally tiresome 🤣

Foxblue · 05/10/2024 13:54

Honestly, and this is very presumptuous and judgemental of me, my assumption is that they are just managing their cash flow okay-ish, and aren't actually tracking outgoings properly to determine if they are making a profit.

Complete rip off. Don’t bother.

RattusMcRat · 05/10/2024 15:21

I don't know what it this one is, BUT I have had a couple of friends venture into MLM stuff before (assuming this is another MLM) and their persona changed so dramatically (friends become prospects basically) it destroys friendships through the change in dynamic - and often cult like devotion to the cause.

Most people are faking/bigging up any success they have via these things, in fact, I believe that this is positively encouraged by the leaders, who are the only ones making any real money.

I would imagine the number of people who have no other income (partner, loans, benefits, trust fund whatever) and can live off this type of thing are infantesimally small.

They prey on vulnerable, often women, make them buy their own kit and sell their soul for very little return. Encourage them to fake it till you make it and leave them high and dry.

In short OP, the lifestyle you see if very very unlikely to be as it seems.

Lewiscapaldiscat · 05/10/2024 15:26

I like scents and was just about to place an order 🫣

RocketPanda · 05/10/2024 15:30

They recruit vulnerable people. MLM should be illegal.

ScrewYouUniverse · 05/10/2024 15:33

Most of them aren't, they're just running themselves into debt on the promise that soon they'll be millionaires.

Did you see her accounts? Because if not she's lying to you. Nobody makes that kind of money in MLMs apart from the founding layer of the pyramid.

Exactly this! I have a friend who is doing Forever Living. If she asks me "how are you?" I always say "fine" because anything less like tired or a minor ailment will result in her trying to sell me something! I steer clear. She's been going at it now for 2 years and has recently left her long term job as she's been persuaded by the leaders that is how to make the big bucks.
She denies paying for new kits each time she's promoted, and insists there's no outlay. But I'm certain she's not making much money.
She keeps pouncing on people to try to get them to be part of her team, often people who really can't afford to lose money or need a proper income, and she's promising riches and a fabulous lifestyle. I feel differently about her for that.

Avoid. MLMs are predatory and unethical. You can get the same products cheaper without contributing to the exploitation of your friends.

cantthinkofausername26 · 07/10/2024 08:38

Wow, are all these people really being brainwashed? What about the trips to Orlando they have 'won' for creating so many sales? Do you think they fund it themselves?
I knew a Herbalife consultant who told me she had 200 'teamies' she would post about all the designer 'treats' she could afford and went around in a brand new Range Rover... if she wasn't making a fortune how could she afford to do that?
I'm genuinely intrigued by these schemes, and PP's are so right, every 'friend' becomes an opportunity! Sad.

OP posts:
spuddy4 · 07/10/2024 08:40

Most of them are probably in a new MLM now.

mamajong · 07/10/2024 09:08

I tried these things when mine were small, phoenix cards, forever living, Avon...its all the same very little actual profit and your contacts buy stuff out of pity or guilt quite often. There are better ways to make a few quid imo

Gingernaut · 07/10/2024 09:15

They're on Facebook - I keep seeing sponsored ads for them - Almost all of them identical with the "reps" desperately trying to avoid any mention of a "network"

It is an iniquitous fraud preying on the desperate and the sooner these 'businesses' are shut down, the better

Virtually every product can be bought from a website without involving the middle man "boss babes"

Alina3 · 07/10/2024 09:31

They're not. It's smoke and mirrors. If an MLM hun is making noises with her mouth, they're lying.

PersephoneAgrees · 07/10/2024 09:37

Scentsy isn’t very good either, an expensive way of buying fake perfume. Aldi, Next and M&S do much better quality copies. I love Aldi’s Lime Basil and Mandarin. There are also Eastern perfume oils on Amazon for less than a fiver that smell delicious and last for ages.

Yes agree with this. I have a very sweet friend that got sucked into a similar MLM scheme with perfume dupes. The tiresome motivation posts on being your own boss, my 'business' blah blah blah...

I dont think people actually do make any money they just post a load of BS on social media to keep up the pretense

The Orlando trips are glorified sales conferences - they get flights paid (at the most inconvenient because cheap slots) and accommodation but have to buy their own food/pay spends and spend the whole time at dismal company events. They are often very short trips with long haul flights and no time to actually enjoy. The photos of them enjoying their 'free holiday' are lies. The fancy cars are leased. The company pays their lease fee if they reach a certain level but they don't ever own the cars and they can lose them at any time if they drop levels. They also have to pay their own excess mileage etc and all the other additional expenses you can get with a leased car.
