I'll go first. Steak and coco pops. The steak was in the coco pops. DD made it.

Any food, served by any NHS hospital in the last 50 years. Inedible.🤢

DH was in hospital last year and said the food he had was really nice, but stodgy and not exactly healthy, which isn’t good when you are stuck in bed. He had macaroni cheese followed by a sponge pudding. No fruit or vegetables. Luckily the hospital has an M&S so he was allowed to walk down there and get some fruit!

The first time I ate MIL’s roast dinner. Thick, glutinous, black gravy that you have to prise out of the jug, then it all speeds up and lands on your plate complete with a jelly-like skin. Contains more salt than it is humanly possible to process.

Rock hard stuffing, burnt yorkshires (because the boys like them “crispy”), pale green liquid mush veg, ice cold chicken that has been stored in the fridge then brought straight to the table.

It was probably the only meal I could ever describe as truly inedible.

I was alone in my opinion.

BiscuitlyBoyle · 04/10/2024 18:17

Champneys Henlow a few months ago. The dinner was included in the price.
I had some kind of avocado coated in breadcrumbs. I’m not sure if it was meant to be hot or cold. Then some sort of tagliatelle dish with asparagus or possibly broccoli, I don’t remember. It was thick and mealy. The pudding was ok but I don’t remember what that was.
Breakfast and lunch were lovely though.

I went to a wedding in Spain, where the groom was supposed to have booked a meal for about 16 guests the night before at a local restaurant.
Except he forgot.
So when we all turned up the restaurant owner tried his best, but all he had was spinach. So that's what we had. Spinach for a starter and spinach for a main course. Nothing else, just boiled spinach. Fortunately we didn't have to have it for dessert.

Just about everywhere in Scotland.
Standards for fresh cooked food are pretty bad.

ILoveToCleanSaidNooneEver · 04/10/2024 18:38

I tried to make tofu satay. Omg it was gross. I don't know what I did wrong, but the oil from the peanut butter all separated and the peanut butter was just congealed. I could've cried because I love satay sauce and I love tofu. I haven't tried since 😭

Thevelvelletes · 04/10/2024 18:41

After a booze fuelled night.
I had two things in the kitchen, liver and a jar of korma sauce, liver was bit dry , added the korma sauce.
God was I sick in the morning, the aftertaste of them both was something to behold.

grumpygallbladder · 04/10/2024 18:44

I have 3. My DP is usually a great cook but lately his spag Bol was so salty I couldn't stomach it. I had 3 mouthfuls of the spaghetti then said I wasn't hungry. DP again with his salt (I think it is actually stock cubes he is using to excess) he made a recreation of a hello fresh meal we had loved. Nope inedible. I made a peanut noodle hello fresh meal. I don't know if the amount of ingredients were incorrect but I made it as the recipe said and it was awful. My DP tried really hard to be nice about it!

ILoveToCleanSaidNooneEver · 04/10/2024 18:50

Oh and prior to being vegan, and a long time ago when I was poor, I bought a tin of some kind of stewing steak. I had it with mash and veg. I bit down on a mouthful and nearly lost a tooth - it wasn't gristle, it was either a piece of bone or an actual piece of whatever animal was in it tooth 🤢 (not that I should've been surprised).

Demurelemur · 04/10/2024 18:51

The breakfast wrap I had on a BA flight earlier on the week was pretty grim. Anaemic wrap with lukewarm scrambled egg that dripped liquid. Inedible

PurpleRobe · 04/10/2024 18:52

Went to a Moroccan restaurant in Lincoln once and that was awful. The chicken was in some sort of bin juice but simultaneously the driest chicken I've ever eaten.

cantpullthetrigger · 04/10/2024 18:52

I knew instantly I could contribute to this thread when I read the title...

I have a few gourmet nightmares to share:

Chocolate cake with jam and prawns in it, made by my nieces, unattended for the final cake assembly phase (bad decision)

Fruit scones with marmalade and spam slices on top, served by an elderly relative with dementia and I didn't have the heart to decline

Crab and courgette linguine on holiday, when my sibling bought vanilla yoghurt in Italy instead of cream for the sauce...

cantpullthetrigger · 04/10/2024 18:56

Also was served 'stinky tofu' on a business trip in China...

It tasted like sewage. Absolutely disgusting.

Christ. That experience alone would have been enough to make me vegan....

It wasn't the nail in the coffin, but my intake of 'meat' reduced significantly after that 🤣

Bgfe · 04/10/2024 19:05

Cheap hotel booked through work. Starving after a day of meetings. The restaurant was basically what the bar staff said was available. They only had curry.
Ordered a pint and the curry and it was boil in the bag rice served IN THE BAG with a block of brown. Stuck my fork in and it was frozen right through. There was a cardboard ‘naan’ which broke into powdery lumps.
Got a refund and some crap from the vending machine.

Another time ,working with refugees an African lady took her turn to cook lunch. It was like tripe in texture but dark reddish brown. I forced it down and made extravagant noises of appreciation. Whereupon she served me another bowl full.

That reminds me of my dad, who'd gone to visit clients in Finland, not long before Christmas. They took him for a meal and gave him grey mush, which was year old mashed, fermented fish. Apparently, vile as it was, he forced it down, in order to be polite. Delighted, they forced more on him, saying, "Foreigners never like this! Even many Finns don't like it!"

Surströmming - buried fermented fish in Sweden- the stink

Yes, I was invited to a shrimp cook, when working in Sweden and they got some out. I had to leave and walk down the bottom of the garden, as soon as they opened the can.

This is a hill I will die on!!
Even with bacon and oats, it is the food of the devil!!

Totally agree with you! 💯

Having just comeback from Scotland I beg to differ!

I had one of the best vegetarian restaurant meals I have had in years there last week. Butternut squash strudel on a bed of masked potatoes and a creamy leek sauce.

I also managed to find a proper veggie burger made with real veggies rather than that horrible fake meat

Lavabread
Who in their right minds eats that cowpat?

Laver bread no need to diss it ... Same stuff as wrapped around sushi rolls. highly nutritious also delicious

It's a different type of seaweed to that around sushi
Are you going to accuse everyone else who has shared which food they dislike, of 'dissing' it, or is it just me you are singling out?

macaroonsandgin · 04/10/2024 19:38

Sea urchin.

Looks like a toddler’s amoxicillin poo, tastes like briny toilet cleaner.

Never again

ProvincialLady2024 · 04/10/2024 19:41

Mil's food is not good. Bland, overcooked, beige:

Poor DH never had a salad until hie met me.

She is very thin though, so there is an upside to tasteless mess.

LunaNorth · 04/10/2024 10:15

Andouillette.

Inedible.

I came on to say this. Truly the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten. It is referred to as poo sausage in our house.
