Am I being over sensitive? With what my colleague said?

I work in a school. Got there this morning and hair etc was a bit wet from walking in. My colleague said ‘bit soggy applecherry9?’ Then I said yeah etc. she said soggy doggy, in sort of like a playful voice. She has one of those voices that’s like she’s talking to children all the time if that makes sense. Aibu to think she was aiming this at me and saying I’m a dog/ugly?

My dogs beautiful so yabu to say dogs are ugly 🤷‍♀️

WiserOlderElf · 01/10/2024 19:54

She sounds a bit odd so I wouldn’t take any notice.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 01/10/2024 19:55

Think you're overthinking. You were wet and doggy rhymes with soggy. Probably no insult meant.

Definitely but I feel like it’s classed as an insult towards a woman. Maybe I’m over thinking it

She’s weird. But I don’t think saying you were an ugly dog was her intention.
As @whatatodoaboutnothing says, dogs aren’t ugly either…though I recognise it is used as an insult.

GeorgeBeckett · 01/10/2024 19:56

It’s probably just something she says to her dog/children and she wasn’t really thinking, rather than a sly dig at you. Bit weird but wouldn’t think more about it.

ChanelBoucle · 01/10/2024 19:56

Errr unless there’s some massive back story where your colleague once told you that you look like Grotbag’s saggy left nipple, I think you might just be overthinking this one.

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/10/2024 19:56

You are definitely being over sensitive.

Savoury · 01/10/2024 19:56

Oh I don’t know. I imagine she kicked herself the minute the words were out of her mouth. People don’t think and that includes us all.
My colleague told me I was “uncharacteristically nice” on a matter tonight 😁I get on well with this person!
Just move on and forget it.

ManhattanPopcorn · 01/10/2024 19:56

You're over thinking it.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 01/10/2024 19:57

You're massively overthinking
It was just a random comment as they rhyme

NahNotHavingIt · 01/10/2024 19:58

Oh dear God, it's like Overthinkers Anonymous on here at times! 😳🤣🤣

I mean soggy literally rhymes with doggy, and dogs have wet fur when it rains.

But yeah, if it makes you feel better then assume she meant you're dog ugly 🙄

Hotsweatymumsspagetti · 01/10/2024 19:58

Soggy doggie like when they go outside and look wet from the rain, your hair was wet. Yeah it’s a bit odd but think you are being over sensitive

Stichintime · 01/10/2024 19:59

Some staff in schools talk like children all the time, particularly in EYFS and KS1. It's easily done when you hang out with kids all the time. Silly Billy, etc. Don't take it to heart. Next time you see her just say "Like your perfume, Smelly Nelly" or if you see her having an itch ask if she's got fleas.

NewName24 · 01/10/2024 19:59

No, that's definitely only in your imagination.

Soggy rhymes with doggy.
I mean, she sounds a bit strange, but not insulting you.

I think so, but also any adult that talks to another adult in a sing song voice.. to use the classic mumsnet term, I’d assume they are slightly unhinged

RickiRaccoon · 01/10/2024 20:00

You're overthinking. Your colleague's just a bit odd/ hanging around with small children too much.

sonjadog · 01/10/2024 20:00

This is a side effect of spending all your day with children - you end up speaking like them even when talking to other adults (speaking as someone who taught for nearly 20 years).

NahNotHavingIt · 01/10/2024 20:01

If she comes up with a rhyme for 'Mumsnet', you'll know she's seen this hugely identifying thread 😏

CuteCillian · 01/10/2024 20:01

It is just a phrase, like mucky duck. Would you take that to mean you had feathers?

Thfrog · 01/10/2024 20:02

Soggy doggy isn't an insult. She didn't call you a wet bitch

Coconutter24 · 01/10/2024 20:05

Doggy rhymes with soggy…. You’re definitely being over sensitive

Dontlletmedownbruce · 01/10/2024 20:07

You are being very paranoid and unreasonable! She said a childish nonsensical thing because it rhymed and she works with kids. I work with young kids (3-5) and my colleague speaks like this all the time, everyone's name gets turned into a silly rhyme. Jane would be Janey laney or Paul would be Pauly walley etc

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 01/10/2024 20:09

I think it wasn’t said in a bad way.
