Am I being over sensitive? With what my colleague said?

I work in a school. Got there this morning and hair etc was a bit wet from walking in. My colleague said ‘bit soggy applecherry9?’ Then I said yeah etc. she said soggy doggy, in sort of like a playful voice. She has one of those voices that’s like she’s talking to children all the time if that makes sense. Aibu to think she was aiming this at me and saying I’m a dog/ugly?

Where I was brought up 'soggy doggy' was something that lots of people would say when you got wet. It wouldn't be one person just making it up in the spot, it was a regular comment when anyone got soaking wet.

Maybe she's from the same area.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 01/10/2024 20:44

Waaaaay overthinking this. I work with kids, I rhyme crap and say stupid shit all the time without thinking. I called my best friend a silly goose the other day ffs. It is a something and nothing comment

Frenchkisserintheusa · 01/10/2024 20:45

You can’t really think soggy doggy means she was saying you were dog ugly. That’s an unbelievable reach.

Easipeelerie · 01/10/2024 20:45

Probably meant nothing unless you know she has form for putting you down.

Catpuss66 · 01/10/2024 20:45

Even if she did mean somthing mean? do you really care what she thinks?

ISpyNoPlumPie · 01/10/2024 20:46

I sometimes forget when I am at work that I’m not at home with my kids. Oh look at that - a rainbow! Oh byesy-bye. Are you feeling ty-ty? Probably more confusing if you actually work with children. Besides, I LIKE soggy doggy (prefer wet bitch obv.). I wouldn’t take it to heart OP!!

TheFireflies · 01/10/2024 20:47

I think particularly when you work with children it’s easy to forget yourself.
A colleague of mine once said “Ssshhhh, use your indoor voice!” before remembering she was talking to a parent.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/10/2024 20:47

Don't be soft.

You were soggy and it rhymes. Some people like that.

2Rebecca · 01/10/2024 20:48

Soggy doggy is a common phrase people use to each other if you got wet in the rain in my circle. It's affectionate not nasty

soundsys · 01/10/2024 20:52

I think if she spends her time talking to small children that's probably just where her brain went because it rhymes. I wouldn't take offence unless she has form

AGoingConcern · 01/10/2024 20:53

Soggy Doggy is a children's board game, and it's an easy rhyme.

She was perhaps being a bit awkward but you're completely overthinking it and being extremely sensitive.

ThatFlightyTemptress · 01/10/2024 20:55

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 01/10/2024 20:04

Soggy doggy isn't an insult. She didn't call you a wet bitch

This made me laugh

Gremlins101 · 01/10/2024 21:01

She sounds a bit daft and you sound way over sensitive. Yabu 🙂

2Rebecca · 01/10/2024 21:05

I'm surprised so many people here haven't heard the expression before. If I get a bit drenched and arrive somewhere I might say "I'm a bit of a soggy doggy" and hadn't realised some people might think it odd. I don't work with children and don't generally use rhyming speech, I thought that was a common expression, it's obviously regional

Errr unless there’s some massive back story where your colleague once told you that you look like Grotbag’s saggy left nipple, I think you might just be overthinking this one.

🤣🤣🤣 I’m in bed sick and this made my day! Thanks

Whatafustercluck · 01/10/2024 21:06

Soggy Doggy is a kids game, the dog shakes water all over the players.

You're overthinking it.

Twistybranch · 01/10/2024 21:07

You are massively over reacting

Some people use that phrase

It’s also a popular kids game. My kids had it

x post @Whatafustercluck

Mynameistallullah · 01/10/2024 21:09

You're overthinking (unless youre about to dripfeed tell us a big backstory?)

Soggy doggy just rhymes like unlucky mcducky or whatever

Women calling other women dogs to mean unattractive is SO unusual IME, so chances are very slim that she was saying that...unless she's 13 maybe

BraveFacesEveryone · 01/10/2024 21:14

If it help OP last week I told my clients in a serious meeting that it did sound like they were in a bit of a pickle. Not my best moment..!

Differentstarts · 01/10/2024 21:15

Yabu I highly doubt she was calling you a bitch she just spends to much time with 4 year olds so sometimes forgets when she's talking to an adult

The fact that your colleague kept going after your initial reply suggests that she is either (a) a low key bitch or (b) very insensitive. It is impossible to judge without knowing what she is like generally. Unfortunately, it could well be (a).
