Do you think the world would be a nicer place if all politicians were women?

I’m so heartbroken by what is going on with Israel/Gaza/Lebanon.

The day I became a mum was the day my heart left my body. I see the news stories and just absolutely bloody fear for children, the elderly, animals etc.

We are on this planet for such a short period of time. I can’t stand it!

It makes me hate the men making these decisions. I genuinely believe the world would be a better place if women were in charge. We are naturally empathetic (broadly speaking).

I can’t be wrong, surely?

I’m all cosy in my home and people’s worlds are being obliterated a couple of thousands of miles away. It’s an awful reality I wish I could just ignore

Undoubtedly, I think the world would be a much fairer, more efficient, less stressful, less harmful and much more pleasant place if women were in charge.

What, with all the extra hormones we have.
I think I would fast become a megalomaniacal dictator for about 52 days a year😂😂

I don't want a society where either sex is oppressed by not being allowed to leave the house without being accompanied by the opposite sex.

Truss, Hilary Clinton, Thatcher, Patel, Sturgeon, Merkel, Braverman.

Would be wonderful.

ilovesooty · 01/10/2024 19:20

Braverman would be utterly repulsive whatever sex she was.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 01/10/2024 19:21

No I think the nature of the leader is the issue and that trait is much more common in men but will also be present in the type of women who prevail. What we need is for good people to be in charge. And ideally a system where the egotistical evil 'type' doesn't rise to the top.

The book divergent had a good model, although ridiculously exaggerated. Power was only assigned go those that didn't want it and weren't comfortable with it, never to those who sought it.

ChateauMargaux · 01/10/2024 19:24

I agree with you OP... I think fewer women would go to war... despite the war mongers quoted on this thread.

ReleaseTheSausages · 01/10/2024 19:26

Female politicians are in those positions because they’ve played by patriarchal rules. Having only women rule under these circumstances wouldn’t make a difference.

Filter out anyone whose life ambition is to be a politician because they’re looking for power rather than making a difference (although I think there’s a difference here between emerging male and female politicians ). Instead bring in people to make decisions about the area they work/worked in to a high level, but representatives from all aspects of that area (eg drs, nurses, cleaners, porters) to get a holistic view of everything needed to successfully run whatever area it is.

NamelessNancy · 01/10/2024 19:27

The examples of women in power are a product of society as a whole (patriarchal). In essence they have had to out-man the men to reach positions of power. To be taken seriously they have had to present a tough(/masculine?) persona. Thatcher famously had voice coaching to lower her voice in order to be taken more seriously. Can we imagine the male politicians trying to speak at a higher register?

TheLittleOldWomanWhoShrinks · 01/10/2024 19:27

You can add Giorgia Meloni and Alice Weidel to the list of Truss, Braverman et al above.

Very generally and briefly, I agree with this: 'No I think the nature of the leader is the issue and that trait is much more common in men but will also be present in the type of women who prevail. What we need is for good people to be in charge. And ideally a system where the egotistical evil 'type' doesn't rise to the top.'

Whenwillitgetwarm · 01/10/2024 19:29

No. Most of these men have wives who 100% back them.

Although nearly every one of this summers rioters were men, most of them probably had women at home who backed them.

When you saw the Nazi’s, the KKK etc, they had wives and girlfriends.

Although these women aren’t in direct power, they enable and support and given the chance, they would do the same.

The world would be a better place if all politicians wanted to genuinely make the world a better place, were willing to collaborate for the greater good and were incorruptible.

If Jacinda Arden's anything to go by, definitely not.

Would they still wave white feathers at men who refused to be cannon fodder?

I don’t think there would be as much war, death and destruction, yet we get called the emotional ones!!!

Ha! men seem to forget that rage and anger are emotions too.

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 01/10/2024 19:38

Yes, absolutely. These wars aren't being started by women

Farting · 01/10/2024 19:38

Yep. Bring back Maggie!

Anedina · 01/10/2024 19:38

Definitely not

LondonQueen · 01/10/2024 19:44

No, sadly women can be just as awful.

FifiFalafel · 01/10/2024 19:48

Marine le Pen
Nadine Dorries
Edwina Currie
Ann Widdecombe

Bex5490 · 01/10/2024 19:57

Is it possible though that the majority of female politicians we see now are just the ones deemed acceptable enough to the dominant male majority to make it through?

I don’t think they are a true representation of woman across the board.

ForeverPombear · 01/10/2024 19:59

No. Have you seen many AIBU threads?

Edited

😂 Based on mn every country would have gone low contact with half the others within a year and when heads of states would come to visit politicians would be too scared to answer the door.

ssd · 01/10/2024 20:09

I totally agree with you op
