Do you think the world would be a nicer place if all politicians were women?

I’m so heartbroken by what is going on with Israel/Gaza/Lebanon.

The day I became a mum was the day my heart left my body. I see the news stories and just absolutely bloody fear for children, the elderly, animals etc.

We are on this planet for such a short period of time. I can’t stand it!

It makes me hate the men making these decisions. I genuinely believe the world would be a better place if women were in charge. We are naturally empathetic (broadly speaking).

I can’t be wrong, surely?

I’m all cosy in my home and people’s worlds are being obliterated a couple of thousands of miles away. It’s an awful reality I wish I could just ignore

No, because women can be just as bad. However I do think the world would be better if there were many more (at least half) women in positions of power.

Notapeep · 01/10/2024 18:18

Having had experience professionally years ago with predominantly women I think it would be worse

cardibach · 01/10/2024 18:19

Nope, sadly.
In evidence I cite:
Margaret Thatcher
!ix Truss
Kemi Badenoch
Priti Patel
Suella Braverman

And that’s just in the U.K. Tory party.

You've seen Liz Truss right? Or Marjorie Taylor Greene. Or Kemi Badenoch.....

Being male or female doesn't make you any better or worse. Terrible leaders are just terrible leaders.

SoupDragon · 01/10/2024 18:20

No, I don't believe that at all. I've come across enough women who were missing the empathy gene in my day to day life that I think that it would be just as bad. I'm also not convinced that lots of empathy is actually what is needed in government.

MontysBakehouse · 01/10/2024 18:21

I'm inclined to think no, because while I think that women are on the whole, more empathetic than men, I don't think that's historically true of those women who have risen to become heads of state.

Perhaps if we didn't live in a patriarchy, then we wouldn't be as inclined to elect militaristic leaders, be they men or women. I do think its simplistic to say female leaders would naturally be less warlike, though.

AvaJae · 01/10/2024 18:21

Do you read the threads on here and how women trash other women….

Wolfpa · 01/10/2024 18:21

Nope I have worked with many a spiteful vengeful woman.

CoralReader · 01/10/2024 18:21

No

crackofdoom · 01/10/2024 18:22

I don't recall Golda Meir being much of a dove 🤔

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 01/10/2024 18:22

Having lived under the rule for many years of Chief Mammy, Nicola Sturgeon - the answer is no.

Inspireme2 · 01/10/2024 18:23

The power trip of women in power haha they are not worse than men.
Give me a male boss any day.

AutumnGarland · 01/10/2024 18:25

No, power corrupts anyone.

Woollypullover · 01/10/2024 18:25

Undoubtedly, I think the world would be a much fairer, more efficient, less stressful, less harmful and much more pleasant place if women were in charge.

TheWinterWillWash · 01/10/2024 18:26

No. The problems would perhaps be slightly different in nature but not better.

AnyFucker · 01/10/2024 18:27

Christ, no

I think there should be better people in power though.

HoppityBun · 01/10/2024 18:29

no

Figleafpants · 01/10/2024 18:30

yes, because Maggie was so soft, so gentle wasnt she?

She stole my milk btw....

BanksysSprayCan · 01/10/2024 18:31

In the patriarchal society we live in, the characteristics that are viewed as more feminine are not valued by the electorate. If a politician shows too much empathy, for example, they may be derided as weak. So often female politicians act more like the worst examples of men. This is a pity.

This is not nice. I’ve said no and cited some horrors, but the6 aren’t worse than the men.

VoteLabour · 01/10/2024 18:33

No. A mix of different types of people is best.

BillytheMountain · 01/10/2024 18:34

It’s heartbreaking what’s happening right now and the reporting very one-sided.

I agree with you it feels wrong that things are normal here whilst others have their worlds smashed and destroyed.

I disagree that woman in charge would mitigate against this, think Madeline Albright, Thatcher. I’d like some principled politicians and leaders whatever their sex that cannot be bought, not the cheap war mongers and hypocrites voted in time and again.

Chances are this will escalate and we will be involved, recent talk of conscription wasn’t for nothing.

This is perpetual war and it’s lucrative for those in charge, don’t kid yourself they give a toss about ordinary people, they don’t.

Totally agree. ALL women? No because as evidenced from other post some female politicians are just as bad as many male ones. Women aren't automatically any more kind, trustworthy, competent, intelligent, empathetic etc than men are.

But MORE female politicians in local and national government - a big yes, to ensure a broad range of women's voices and experiences are heard and influence government legislation and spending decisions.

VeritableChestnut · 01/10/2024 18:40

Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert are female politicians, and they are an absolute disgrace.

Sadcafe · 01/10/2024 18:41

What, like Liz Truss, Pritti Patel etc, ye, definitely better
