To think that cat food manufacturers are evil dog owners?

Because it’s absolutely impossible to open sachets of the disgusting, smelly, liquid filled, gravy ones that the furry overlords demand without ripping them part way, splashing it up the wall, getting it on your top, in your eye and on the floor rather than the bowl you’ve got on the counter?

And you can't recycle the bastards without washing them out and taking them to one supermarket in a town your mother in law lives in 6 miles away?

And no cat in the history of cat domination of the human species has ever eaten the beef flavour.

Won’t someone think of the Cat Slaves?

There are loads of flavours available online. Try ZooPlus.

We get all of it from Zooplus but their stock is quite unreliable.

harrumphh · 30/09/2024 09:46

Why on earth are you opening it right side up at counter height? No wonder you're having problems.

Tip it downwards into a bowl on the floor from a bent over position.

aliceinanwonderland · 30/09/2024 09:52

Agree with all of this... the dislike of beef, absence of rabbit and the impossibility of opening sachets.
BUT Has anyone's car discovered Sheba's Taste of Rome?
Our cat is ecstatic over the carbonara flavour

Buggabootwo · 30/09/2024 09:54

All this is true except the beef thing. Madam scoffs the beef, it’s her no 1 absolute favourite flavour. Apart from duck. She really really loves duck but will never eat it again while she shits in a tray in the utility room. The stench is like something from Satan’s own bowels. After a curry.

Yes never understood why they add in vegetables like peas and carrots!

Green beans!! Green beans??? I could understand if it was “a handful of random grass for hairball extraction” or “a bit of feather for additional crunch” but green beans?? Is it pie filling or cat food?

Laiste · 30/09/2024 09:57

Jelly. Buy the jelly not the gravy.

It comes out cleanly in one plop with nothing left in the pouch.

My gripe is that there's only a few flavours ever available in jelly.

I fucking hate it when i accidentally pick up gravy instead. Messy and wasteful.

😅 I think manufacturers think cats are hankering after a roast meal

Try Bozita cat food - it comes in more flavours than you can shake a stick at!

Chicken, chicken liver, duck, turkey, salmon, herring, Arctic char, perch, mackerel, shrimp, crayfish, haddock, rabbit, lamb, beef, elk, reindeer (!!!)

Those Swedes take an interesting approach to cat food, to say the least. I had to keep the reindeer cartons in a cupboard as the idea upset DS1

What, no venison flavour!?

Pluviophile1 · 30/09/2024 09:59

Send your beef sachets this way (fnar fnar) - my cat is a greedy madam who will eat anything.

Overtheatlantic · 30/09/2024 10:00

It’s expensive but the raw food made by PurrForm is odorless, cat produces odourless poo, and you can buy a variety for storing in the freezer.

Julen7 · 30/09/2024 10:00

Slightly off the subject but there is currently a lik e lix flavour of liver sausage and grass. 🤮 I was very dubious but has the cat seal of approval in this house.

SeptimusSheep · 30/09/2024 10:01

Try Bozita cat food

I mean, I would...
but I fear that Miss Fluffbrain would take one sniff and leave the house for a week. She's a Felix tuna flavour kind of a girl.

Overtheatlantic · 30/09/2024 10:01

😂

SleepingisanArt · 30/09/2024 10:01

So glad it's not just me! We have a mixture of pouches, trays (can also open explosively) and the small tins (sometimes the ring pull comes off in your hand). Cat will eat beef roughly once a month and the same for lamb! Hates salmon but loves tuna. Won't eat anything in jelly (backs away from the dish as if it contained poison!) Will leave peas, carrots and green beans when he finds them in the food - cats are not vegetarians so why are they even visible in the food? And he too won't eat the same flavour twice in a row....

AmeliaEarache · 30/09/2024 10:05

KimberleyClark · 30/09/2024 09:58

What, no venison flavour!?

Shit, YES! There is venison, I forgot that one.

It seems my kids are only touchy about Rudolph being eaten and don’t give a shit about Bambi.

Herring smells exactly as much as you’d think. Cats loved it, though.

@SylvestersServant - green beans etc are in dog food; dogs are idiots who will eat anything able to eat vegetables and grains whereas cats are pure carnivores.

Spanielears · 30/09/2024 10:05

Yes I totally agree, our two furry rulers refuse to eat anything except the gravy soaked Félix pouches! We’ve tried them on the expensive brands, fresh meat, raw cat food, pate etc but nope, it’s Félix or nothing. Fussy little blighters.

The only way I’ve found to open the pouches without getting covered in it is to squeeze the pouch slightly from the sides, not from the front, then cut the pouch open with scissors, don’t even try with the rippy thing. Once the pouch is open, the meat will just slide into the bowl as the pressure from the sides being squeezed will open the packet up a bit, like a mouth! Then mash it up with a fork to save the overlords having to go to the effort of separating it ! Good luck and hope this helps xx

Offcom · 30/09/2024 10:05

You are being unreasonable as clearly a CAT has designed the hard-to-open sachets, and roped other cats in to fake a fondness for beef in the taste tests.

sueelleker · 30/09/2024 10:07

I have the same problem with dog food pouches, so I think the manufacturers hate all animals.

Spanielears · 30/09/2024 10:12

Also, I do wonder why they put beef and lamb flavour in, cows and lamb are not exactly animals that cats would eat naturally. Imagine a cat trying to kill a cow or sheep! That’s probably why they don’t eat it much. Rat and mouse flavour would probably go down a treat but I think the food manufacturers would draw the line at that! 😂

Yes or squirrel perhaps mmm yum

MabelMora · 30/09/2024 10:15

We've changed over to little tins, as avid recycler DH didn't want the washed out pouches put in the bin - fair enough- but then we needed store them until we got round to taking them to the one place where they're accepted. I cracked after getting sick of the smelly carrier bag of pouches hanging round in the utility room.

Soonenough · 30/09/2024 10:17

Just be glad that neither live in Springfield Illionois were they themselves would be eaten . According to Donald Trump. So it must be true .

FupaTrooper · 30/09/2024 10:18

Tins from Zooplus.
Grain free, high protein and easily recycled.

I highly recommend Feringa, Macs and Wild Freedom.
You can get various sizes and they keep in the fridge for 24 hours

Most supermarket/sachet food is absolute shite and also far too expensive for what it actually is.

Julen7 · 30/09/2024 09:26

Yes never understood why they add in vegetables like peas and carrots!

Cats need some green matter. In the wild they get it from the stomach contents of their prey.

I trialled our cats on Bozita, they happily scarfed it. Ordered a bulk load of cartons and they turned their noses up at it immediately, little sods. Ended up donating the whole lot to a pet food bank.
