To get a boiling water tap?

PrincessOfPreschool · 27/09/2024 18:32

Can just about afford it if it will make my life better 😉.

But...does it take away the pottering and chat whilst you wait for the kettle?

Who loves theirs and does anyone regret getting one?

Ps. I have older teens, no small kids, although elderly parents is a consideration.

We have had one for several years, we think they are brilliant

olderbutwiser · 27/09/2024 18:40

Adore ours. Had it for over 10 years and will never be without one. Elderly Mum found it easier to use than a kettle. Yes you do lose the pottering and chat, but it stopped me endlessly putting the kettle on, walking away, coming back, reboiling the kettle... And it's great for pasta, potatoes etc. My next lust is one by the cooker as well as one at the sink, but I will need to win the lottery tonight and get a new house for that to happen.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 27/09/2024 18:40

We got ours from Costco and its great.

SausageinaBun · 27/09/2024 18:41

We've just got one. Way better than a kettle. We got one that does chilled and sparkling water too. I really like the sparkling.

Bear in mind, you do need to pay for it to be serviced annually and for the tank to be cleaned of limescale. But, its easily done if you/ partner are handy yourselvs. Its approx £125 for a Quooker service. It is the best thing in the kitchen, its expensive but so good!

GuPuddingRamekinHoarder · 27/09/2024 18:53

I don’t get the appeal, the taste does not compare to freshly boiled kettle water.

Simonjt · 27/09/2024 18:57

We have one, it also enables my husband who has a physical disability to make hot drinks, we’ve had this one a year, the previous one before we moved had been in for eight years with no issues.

LucyLocketLovesPollyPocket · 27/09/2024 18:58

Friend has one, l'm not a fan. tea tastes different and definitely not hot enough for me.

LickYouLikeACrispPacket · 27/09/2024 19:00

We have one and absolutely love it. So convenient and as we live in Scotland with very soft water there is no limescale concern. Ours is a quooker.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 27/09/2024 19:01

Lols at them not being hot enough - mine was way hotter than the kettle and I had to turn it down!

I love mine. Perfect for quick cups of tea but it is for pasta / potatoes that it makes a bit difference.

Bellyblueboy · 27/09/2024 19:04

I love mine! So quick to make coffee now and fill a saucepan for cooking.

oh and hot water bottles!

will always have one

BondStreet · 27/09/2024 19:05

I hear they are worth their weight in gold and would like one myself when I get a new kitchen

flowergirl2020 · 27/09/2024 19:06

We got one this year as part of a new kitchen. It was my husbands 'want', I wasn't really that fussed thought it was an expensive gimmick. But, I'm converted! Love it. Makes life easier. We got one that does cold filtered water or filtered fizzy water which we use a lot also. Xx

Which one did you get? DS1 might actually drink if it produced sparkling.

We love ours, wouldn’t be without it. You choose how hot to set it so ‘not hot enough’ is a user issue if anything.

Quitelikeit · 27/09/2024 19:08

Does anyone know if these can be fitted if you have a granite worktop?

I wouldn’t want any extra holes drilled in - would they just take my tap out and replace?

@flowergirl2020 what tap do you have?

Interesting. I have very sensitive taste buds.

Patienceinshortsupply · 27/09/2024 19:08

We put one in at work to save the waiting around for a kettle to boil, and didn't put a cheap one in but most of our staff refused to use it as they say it made the tea taste funny. It's OK on fresh coffee as that's better with not boiling water but it's been a very expensive mistake on our part, and they've gone back to using kettles . I'm not a fan at all, I think they're pretty pointless tbh.

That's true but I'm not mc! I wasn't going to get one but found one for 350 and thought 🤔. Also I saved £££ by buying a secondhand kitchen (the plasterboard and insulation alone is costing double the price of the kitchen 😭).

OP posts:
PrincessOfPreschool · 27/09/2024 19:12

The one I found is 'wøder' brand.
Didn't realise it needed servicing annually though.

flowergirl2020 · 27/09/2024 19:12

@Quitelikeit hi we got a Quooker one which I admit was why I was reluctant due to the price Confused but I would not definately get one again if I moved. Unsure about the granite you mentioned but we have quartz worktops and it's just fitted in one hole that the work top people cut for it. The only downside to them is the space they take uo underneath in the sink. The more options you go for eg sparking etc the more space is used up. However, our kitchen fitted has a way of doing it that reduced how much space taken up compared to ones I've seen in others cupboards. We have a two door under sink cupboard and it takes up less than a third of the space xx

GiantHornets · 27/09/2024 19:14

High initial outlay - could buy more than a lifetime’s ordinary kettles for the same price.
Unlikely to make good tea as the water isn’t boiling.
Water held in a tank rather than freshly drawn.
Cupboard space lost to make room for the tank of water.

Don’t see the appeal myself but we’re all different. I don’t drink chilled or sparkling water either. I’d find a friend with one first and make a pot of tea to test it.
