To get a boiling water tap?

PrincessOfPreschool · 27/09/2024 18:32

Can just about afford it if it will make my life better 😉.

But...does it take away the pottering and chat whilst you wait for the kettle?

Who loves theirs and does anyone regret getting one?

Ps. I have older teens, no small kids, although elderly parents is a consideration.

Interesting. I have very sensitive taste buds.

If your taste buds like it then it sounds like it good be for for you. But definitely test it before.

They are getting better, the one at work does a decent tea.

That's true but I'm not mc! I wasn't going to get one but found one for 350 and thought 🤔. Also I saved £££ by buying a secondhand kitchen (the plasterboard and insulation alone is costing double the price of the kitchen 😭).

For that price check it’s a boiling tap rather than a hot water tap otherwise you will have tepid tea!

Nonameyet1 · 27/09/2024 19:24

Doesn't make a good cup of tea for me! And that's important!

theredspindletree · 27/09/2024 19:25

We have one - cheaper brand than quooker- had it 7 years and never had it serviced! Did go wrong once but all sorted under 5 year warranty. I wouldn't be without it now - use it for everything and only thing I leave it to run a little while so it's mega hot for is gravy granules. And certainly never tastes funny for tea and I'm super fussy on tea...

Swissvisa · 27/09/2024 19:26

My brother has one and I can’t drink tea or coffee round his, just doesn’t taste the same. It’s put me off getting one myself.

Firenzeflower · 27/09/2024 19:26

I just don’t get it. Unless you require 24 hour boiling water what is the point?
Surely you can boil a kettle.

Anotheremptynester · 27/09/2024 19:27

GiantHornets · 27/09/2024 19:14

High initial outlay - could buy more than a lifetime’s ordinary kettles for the same price.
Unlikely to make good tea as the water isn’t boiling.
Water held in a tank rather than freshly drawn.
Cupboard space lost to make room for the tank of water.

Don’t see the appeal myself but we’re all different. I don’t drink chilled or sparkling water either. I’d find a friend with one first and make a pot of tea to test it.

Probably all true, certainly cant justify the price......and yet I totally love it!

scoped · 27/09/2024 19:28

Quooker great; use it a lot in cooking as so much quicker for frozen veg, pasta, soup making etc- and you don't 'have' to service them at all 😆

lol the most middle class Aibu of all time

Something that one could have said about the electric kettle in the 50s, if mumsnet existed then

Mosaic123 · 27/09/2024 19:33

We have an Insinkererator one. It was here when we moved in.
You have to change the filter twice a year. This costs around £50 a year.

I love it for coffee and herbal tea. We have a kettle too as DH thinks it's not quite hot enough for perfect tea - I don't like tea.

I also use it to save running the tap and waiting for hot water for washing up.

I also use it to soak the inside of a burnt pan or dish. But of course that hardly ever happens....

Thats what our neighbour said after saying work had one and she wouldn’t use it as it makes tea taste so bad she can’t drink it, she’d had two cups of tea back to back made with our quooker.

Surely you can boil a kettle.

They’re very good for people with certain disabilties, my husband can’t use a kettle, the water and kettle weight combined are too much, he can easily use a boiling water tap.

Thedownsideisup · 27/09/2024 19:37

You have to get one that's actually 100°C boiling for it to make good tea. Some are, some aren't. Read up on the one you want very carefully. Quookers are, and so is our Qettle which is brilliant.

Perhaps but middle class is not a dirty word (or two words!).

We have a Qooker and love it for hot drinks, cooking (pasta, stock etc), washing pans, hot water bottles.
One less thing on the counter and whilst you hear it whilst you fill your mug, the length of time is obviously much shorter than boiling a kettle.

ShortyWentLow · 27/09/2024 19:45

I'd love one myself! I've only had them in Airbnbs but they're brilliant. I don't like hot drinks but getting myself a toasty hot water bottle in under a minute was dreamy.

kitchenplans · 27/09/2024 19:45

I have a Qettle. It's boiling water, not "hot" water, and it makes a great cup of tea.

Doesn't need servicing, DH changes the filter as needed.

I have the medium sized one (I think 4 ltrs) and I've never once run out of boiling water.

I love it, I love the convenience of it and I love not having a kettle cluttering up the worktop.

We’ve got a Qooker one. It came with the house, so didn’t get it myself but I love it!

it did stop working a little while ago, & so I called Qooker out. They said it needed servicing every 5 years. He fixed the issue & told me to remember the service. I’m really not going to remember that!

But I never noticed a difference in taste & the water is piping hot for a cup of tea.

i use it a lot, for cooking too. I’d definitely get another if we were to move house.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 27/09/2024 19:49

We can't afford one but get round this by filling the teapot whilst in the shower (you need to position it carefully so no soap gets in).
Seems to work reasonably well, although it can be a bit intrusive when you have overnight guests and you have to surreptitiously put your hand round the shower curtain to retrieve the teapot! 😐

We have a Quooker. It’s fab. At the time, 5 or so years ago it was the only one guaranteed to have proper boiling water, which other brands weren’t quite there with. So there may be others as good now, but can’t comment on.
Quookers service has been excellent and will definitely have another if we ever moved.

lissie123 · 27/09/2024 19:53

We have one but don’t use it now. Water doesn’t heat up enough to make a proper cup of tea and I just felt deflated every single morning. So we’ve bought a £20 kettle to use instead. Shame cos the rest of the kitchen is fxcking fantastic

chloechloe · 27/09/2024 19:53

I love love love my Quooker, ours does boiling water and cooled still and sparkling water. Best thing in the kitchen!

fortedeimarmi · 27/09/2024 19:54

Had a Quooker for 14 years. We all live it, and holiday homes with kettles seem a real step back in time. We also use it to warm plates for dinner!
