Inspired by a recent thread, in which I read multiple posters saying you shouldn't wear mascara on your bottom lashes (which I have been doing for the last 30 years 😂) what has Mumsnet told or taught you you've been doing wrong?

The irritating thing is then I made one eye up as usual and made one up without mascara on the bottom lashes and DH preferred the without eye! Don't even get me started on my inability to make a chicken last a week...

@bringincrazyback I'm wondering why you came on to a clearly lighthearted thread to find something to be offended by. Life admin is up there with picky bits, holybobs, naice, hot choccy, and other wanky ways to say things. Everything involved in it is just life. It's doing the same as everyone else does.

We don't have to agree on anything. I'm not sure why you needed an explanation.

I was having a good today, then you came along

I'm not stopping you having a good day.

I felt your comments about the term 'life admin' were snarky and I said so, and I wasn't the only one who disagreed with your comments. I think it's quite ironic that you're accusing me of looking for something to be offended by when your initial post was so scathing about that term. I'm not offended. I simply disagree.

And no, we don't need to agree. But you keep stating your opinions as facts and I suspect that's why you've been getting some pushback from me and others on this thread.

You're supposed to think about the effect on the climate before booking flights. I'm afraid my only thoughts are "can I afford it" and "have I got enough annual leave left".

Yep, I find it quite hilarious.

Like the woman who posted an AMA about flying with a baby and was inundated with interrogations of 'do you feel guilt about the climate?' and 'what are you doing to fix the damage you have done?' etc... like she should live in shame and disgust.

I know I'm not her, I have flown probably less than 20 times in life (given each holiday requires a flight there and back plus a few short pleasure trips) all short haul but frankly no I don't care or feel remotely guilty.

I'm not going to donate all my wealth to Greta, give up my time to hunt for injured sea turtle or glue my tits to the road for just stop oil to 'elevate' any perceived wrong doing either.

I wish to see the world, its my dream and one I likely wont get to fully live but if I have the opportunity I will take it because traveling and seeing other cultures is important to me. Also as a scientist with a degree fully trained in studying peer reviewed scientific papers I don't remotely buy into the online fear of climate change. Yes somethings are pollutants and we constantly adapting to fix them (and that has never once been achieved by throwing soup on a painting) but no its not even remotely close to the end of days or bloody apocalypse.

In fact my child is starting flying lessons soon to achieve his lifelong dream of being a pilot and I'm perfectly happy with his choice of career and every normal person we have encountered thinks its cool too (no one has clutched their tin hat and yelled 'but the chem trails').

@bringincrazyback you really have stopped me having a good day. I commented on a lightheaded thread, and you decided to have a go at me because it hit a nerve. Do you not have anyone else you can go annoy? There was nothing scathing about my comment

I'm not going to bother replying to you. You're just looking for argument and honestly, you're really not worth anymore of my time

That the only way to be considered a functioning adult is to live in a massive detached house in the countryside, or to own your own property in London.

Presumably bleach is disliked because it’s toxic? Or is there another reason? Otherwise I don’t understand! Just wondered if you had a non-toxic product, but sounds like that’s not the reasoning behind hating bleach.

I don't hate bleach. Just loo brushes

OneBadKitty · 24/09/2024 15:52

This is beyond disgusting because you then have a rubber glove covered in poo to do something with!

  1. I wash the gloves when I'm done but there is no poo involved. I don't stick my hand down a loo with poo in it
LadeOde · 24/09/2024 18:51

That the word 'anxious' no longer exists, now it's just 'anxiety' a pathological condition.

Chateauneufdu · 24/09/2024 18:57

Not only not eating baked potatoes as it's you know 2024 but also not calling them ' jackets' in revered tones and recommending them with everything on every occasion

bringincrazyback · 24/09/2024 19:04

Feel free to not reply, but other people have disagreed with you too. If you're going to accuse people of spoiling your day simply by disagreeing with you, choosing just one of those people seems oddly selective.

Ihateboris · 24/09/2024 19:16

According to 99.9% of MN, heels are old fashioned and totally impractical. Frankly though, I don't give a shit what other people think and I bloody love wearing high heels for a night out. Oh, I also wear mascara on my lower lashes.

Els1e · 24/09/2024 19:21

Wash your armpits and bits with soap not shower gel. I miss shower gel 😕

I still don’t actually know what deep cleaning means tbh!

Me too.

I'm pretty sure I'm not doing it, though!

😳

MN taught me that despite going to uni, having a successful career and hiring many, many people - mostly graduates - in that career, that without going to a Russell Group uni you are doomed to failure. It also taught me that Russell Group unis exist, as I'd never heard of them.
I still don't know which universities are in the group and which aren't, or what makes them better, so have clearly been hiring all wrong for 15 odd years.

I think some people mistake RG for Ivy League. My son put down a RG as first choice because he felt he ought to but got into his non RG insurance and I couldn’t be happier.

I think it basically means it’s a research university but don’t quote me on that.

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 24/09/2024 20:03

Red Brick means it's a research uni, and many Russell group are part of that. I only know this because I work in recruitment though.

PedantScorner · 24/09/2024 20:10

I don't tend to get offended about anything much, but on MN it's almost compulsory to take offence at the slightest thing.

housethatbuiltme · 24/09/2024 20:24

Red Bricks are not better than Poly Techs either.

I went to a Poly Tech and older people (who haven't even gone to uni) sneered at it. My course was full of Red Brick students doing the medical internship and then resitting because their Red Brick did not include the physical experience they needed to actually qualify to become licensed. I can still enter Research fields with my degree as well as practical fields.

Without a license the degree is a pretty useless piece of paper unless you have a magic in with a private institution that has very deep pockets that will straight off hire and fund you for private research.

Everything and nothing. From what I've read so far, there are as many opinions that the ways I do things are the wrong ways as there are that I do them all the right ways. Someone will be along shortly to say I shouldn't have started my second sentence with a preposition 😂 And someone to say I shouldn't make assumptions 😂 Someone else will say language has evolved so not to worry about starting with a preposition, another will say it was a prediction, not an assumption.

I have to laugh sometimes at the threads where someone is asking if they should do something and the replies are literally alternating with Yes you should, no you shouldn’t, yes you should, no you shouldn’t. And on it goes for pages and pages. I’m none the wiser and I expect it’s been no help to the OP.

mumsnet has taught me that there is no subject too lighthearted or innocuous that people can’t manage to get in a spat about it

SeptemberSunglasses · 24/09/2024 20:30

That you can peel mushrooms. Never knew.

BunnyLake · 24/09/2024 20:35

Thisismetooaswell · 24/09/2024 12:48

Each to their own. I don't want a used brush hanging around in my loo. And a cloth is needed anyway for the seat, lid, cistern etc

I use a brush and rinse it by sticking it in the loo and flushing it. I clean the cistern and lid with loo roll so I can flush it away afterwards.

By flushing I mean I give it a ‘shower’ in the loo, I don’t flush the brush away. 😁

I had a destination wedding
I let my dog off the lead in the park.
I don't take my shoes off at the door.

I'll see myself out!

Thistooshallpass24 · 24/09/2024 20:51

That it's totally acceptable to talk to strangers about your "bathroom habits" whereas in real life after the age someone else wipes your bum , it's really not ( general chitchat, not a medical worry)

Barney16 · 24/09/2024 21:06

Chickens/mince/shoes. I have not been making a chicken last for six meals. Neither have I made 500g of mince last 4 meals. And neither do I make people take their shoes off before they come in to NOT eat chicken or mince.

hopelessbusiness · 24/09/2024 21:15

I've learnt from Mumsnet that I'm weird for preferring warm sunshine to cold torrential rain. I've also learned that small children love nothing more than putting their puddle suits on and going for endless rainy walks, splashing in puddles for hours on end. This is evidenced by the totally deserted playgrounds, parks etc I see on wet days...
