To panic over dd eating this

Talkabtit101 · 24/09/2024 09:23

Posting for traffic really.

DH gave DD some mini scotch eggs this morning, I'd gone into the kitchen to see the wrapper on top of bin, marked USE BY 23 Sept 2024.

DH insists that 8 hour doesn't make much of a difference but because it's meat and egg, I'm in a huge panic over it, he thinks she ate around 2-4 before I noticed, they was ASDA mini savoury eggs.

She'll be fine. Things don't suddenly turn poisonous because the clock has ticked over past midnight.

Imalongtimepostingmum · 24/09/2024 09:25

You are being very unreasonable. She will be absolutely fine.

doodleschnoodle · 24/09/2024 09:26

This wouldn't worry me in the least and definitely isn't worth panicking about. It's not a time bomb!

StudioCreate · 24/09/2024 09:26

The mini eggs don't know what the date is.

How are they going to go from being fine at 11.59 to not 8 hours later?

Did they look and smell ok?

She'll be fine

Comedycook · 24/09/2024 09:26

Do you have anxiety op? I wouldn't worry about this.

Treelichen · 24/09/2024 09:26

Go and see your GP for anxiety.

InTheRainOnATrain · 24/09/2024 09:27

It’s not like they’re fine at 11.59pm and turn bad at the stroke of midnight. I probably wouldn’t have risked it if I’d have realised but the risk is absolute minute, especially if they smelt and tasted fine.

PubicZirconia · 24/09/2024 09:29

Don't worry OP,she'll be fine!

I'm a bit jealous actually,I don't live in the UK anymore and haven't had a scotch egg in years..

MonsteraMama · 24/09/2024 09:29

Your husband is right, they're not going to become dangerous in 8 hours. The use by dates are ridiculously careful on almost everything (and contribute to the disgusting amount of food waste in this country, but that's a rant for another day) - she'll be fine. It's cooked egg and cooked, processed meat, nothing raw or risky in there at all.

Somethingsnappy · 24/09/2024 09:29

The use-by dates are just a rough guideline op. In truth, if they've been in the fridge, things can last much longer. This wouldn't worry me at all.

offyoujollywelltrot · 24/09/2024 09:30

Is this for real?

justnotfussed · 24/09/2024 09:33

God I can see why they've now started printing on food packaging to use your common sense when throwing out food 🙄

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 24/09/2024 09:38

Sure OP, sure.

malmi · 24/09/2024 09:39

It's still the 23rd in Hawaii. The eggs don't know you've not gone there on holiday do they? So they've no right to cause any problems. Get some ukulele music playing and the illusion will be complete.

😂😂😂

Talkabtit101 · 24/09/2024 09:42

I tasted one of the eggs myself, and they tasted fine and looked fine.

I do suffer with anxiety, so for those who think this is a joke it is not, it's a genuine worry over my child, it's meat and eggs, it's not a chocolate that's gone out, it's not a best by date, it's a use by date.

Thank you to all who answered my questions on if it was anything SERIOUS to be worried about.

TheShellBeach · 24/09/2024 09:43

As long as they looked and tasted okay, there's no problem.
I thought you were going to say they were a week out of date.

Bumcake · 24/09/2024 09:45

Scotch eggs for breakfast? That’s as bonkers as worrying they will poison you.

I suffer from anxiety too so I know what it's like. I'm sure the eggs were fine especially if you tasted them. Things often safely last longer than the use by dates and 8 hours isn't going to cause any problems. I hope you are feeling better now.

Luluem · 24/09/2024 09:56

Hi OP, just wanted to say anxiety is debilitating, so solidarity. I think your DD will be absolutely fine, for what it’s worth

So you tasted them and they were fine? So why the post? You definitely need to get some help for your anxiety.
Kids eat soil and wipe their bum and dont wash their hands. She will be fine.

meiehwa · 24/09/2024 09:56
Hmm
PenelopePitStrop · 24/09/2024 09:59

The use by date is important, but 8 hours in the fridge is nothing to worry about. Apart from anything g else, some produce marked 23rd would have been made at 6 am and some at 6pm so there had to be wiggle room!

My worry would be about the high fat, high salt content that helps stop stuff going off, and the processed meat and highly processed nature. All less healthy than 8 hours late on a sell by date. Give her booked or scrambled eggs!
