A friend's niece with the surname Taylor is having a daughter and considering the name Elizabeth. I mumbled about how it's a lovely name and were they a fan? Silence. Explained more about Elizabeth Taylor and met with blanks. They didn't know what I was on about.

I'm now clearly old.

When you go to unload the tumble dryer and realise it's only towels to fold this time round....bliss 😁

Me and another colleague of similar age were chatting to a much younger colleague and we mentioned 'Live Aid'. Younger colleague said 'oh yeah, I learnt about that in history at school'. FFS.

I’d have had them on a disciplinary for insubordination !! I remember Live Aid like it was yesterday - it was actually nearly forty years ago. When you look at footage of the performers they seem impossibly young !! Feel old now (again)!

I saw a 20p on the pavement last week and thought "I'm not bending down for that!"

In my day, there weren't even 20p coins to pick up!

I know who Taylor Swift is. I've seen her interviewed and she seems like a great person, generous, compassionate, funny etc. I loved her post supporting Kamala Harris. But her music? Not a clue.

Yes - this is me!

Sorrelia · 18/09/2024 12:18

When the whole team in the operating theatre for my c section looked.younger than me

Cynic17 · 18/09/2024 12:25

It happened to me 6 years ago......realising that Cliff Richard is sitting in front of us at the theatre, pointing him out to my then-16 year old niece and getting a blank look and "who's he?" in return.

Because every time I get up from a chair or bed I go "Oooff" without even thinking.

Because I can remember buying a quarter of sherbert pips for 18p and shopping in C & A.

I am in my 80s. I tinted my hair till 75 then stopped. Suddenly I was old. Supermarkets kinder but many other officials treated me like I was 5 years old. Now my mobility is affected and so I see very few people. Delivery groceries are often taken to my kitchen. But yes it was grey hair that made me old.

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 18/09/2024 13:52

I visited my parents and went to the dentist I had as a teenager, call him Dr. smith. Afterwards I told them how youthful he looked and hoped I would age so well.

They then told me it was his son, with the same surname of course, who had joined the practice. In my defense it was during covid and he had a mask, but still Blush

When your memories are more important than your dreams.

Oh! 😧

Discovered another sign today.
Borrowed 5 books from the library, after reading the blurbs.

Started reading, & realised I've read THREE of them before - one only 7 months ago.

I loved Chanel no 5, until in the run up to Christmas one year, (young) (bastard) people in the staffroom were swapping tales of buying it every year for their mums - or nans!

Calling the cat in from the garden, only to be told I was actually calling one of the dc's toy dinosaurs in. That's when I realised, along with the rest of me, my eyes were old.

Elsvieta · 18/09/2024 22:26

Explained to a young person recently that you used to need a license for a dog. Not sure she believed me.

When your GP is younger than you. Ditto police officers.

Or the Prime Minster. (Sunak). That was awful.

LunaNorth · 18/09/2024 22:34

I’m a teacher, and I realised recently that my first batch of Year 11s will be 43 now.

Ffs.

LunaNorth · 18/09/2024 22:38

On the teaching theme, here are some things that I’ve mentioned in the past year or two, only to be met with a blank stare:

The Beatles.
Magazines.
Madonna.
Record players.
The telephone directory (I had to explain how we used to use them just yesterday).

I met as well just move into a museum and be done with it.

I can only sleep in my own bed now with my very naked pillows. Long gone are the days of crashing on random sofas and kitchen floors after wild parties 🤪**

Similar one…. Driving through a nearby industrial estate where there are loads of rabbits. One was in the road so I slowed right down, it didn’t move until I was really close to it when it flapped its wings and flew off! 😂😂

Do you mean your uncle bought a lawnmower?

Or he brought it to your house?

I had to sleep on the stairs once after one particular excellent party as all the best spots had gone. These days I struggle to climb them.

I left the chemist tonight and it was almost dark (7pm)

I cannot remember when I was last out in the dark 😆
