To report friend for fraud?

Bbttrr · 13/09/2024 22:19

NC as outing.

Friend "A" is working cash in hand whilst claiming benefits. Flaunts her outings, holidays, purchases etc online constantly. Openly advertises her cash in hand work on social media. Claims a healthy sum each month in benefits whilst living in a 1/4+ mil house.

Would IBU to report her?

Nah. If they were bothered they'd work it out themselves from her "socials"

Pandasnacks · 13/09/2024 22:26

Why are you calling them a friend while wanting to report them? Just mind your own business

PureBoggin · 13/09/2024 22:26

Well you are obviously not her "friend" and calling a £250000 house a 1/4 of a million pound house is disingenuous. But you can do what you want.

rosydreams · 13/09/2024 22:27

by the sounds of it you dont need to the way shes going its going to bite them in the rear any day now.But generally if i had a friend doing that i would point this out to them i would say look what you do is your business but shouting it everywhere its not gonna be from me but this is going to really bite you hard and not later but the look of things

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/09/2024 22:28

🤔

HateMyselfToo · 13/09/2024 22:29

By all means report her, but don't pretend you see her as a friend.

betterangels · 13/09/2024 22:29

I wouldn't report, but I also wouldn't be her friend.

LadyKenya · 13/09/2024 22:29

Plastering it all over social media is she? That sounds like a smart move. Why would you want to report her? How does it affect you, what she is doing?

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 13/09/2024 22:29

Why are you doubting yourself? If you think you should report her just do it.

Theunamedcat · 13/09/2024 22:30

Urgh you again 🙄

JackGrealishsAliceBand · 13/09/2024 22:30

A 250k house is not (relatively) expensive 😂 you'd get a one bed flat here for that if you're lucky.

How do you know she's not declaring earnings? It's possible to work and claim benefits.

Oh and it's really not outing.

patchworkbear · 13/09/2024 22:32

Report her.

SaffronsMadAboutMe · 13/09/2024 22:32

I'm always baffled at the Mumsnet definition of 'friend'.

It normally means someone you want to report on the sly, or someone you can't speak to.

Or even both.

It's a 5 bed detached house, which the tax payer is contributing towards.

She is more than happy to share she's getting benefits with her friendship group she has no filter, to her it's a joke.

It's possible to be work and claim benefits, they're not exclusively for unemployed people. It is also perfectly legal to be paid in cash, particularly if self-employed, and you don't even need to bank it if you don't want to do long as it can be accounted for come self-assessment time.

DillDanding · 13/09/2024 22:33

How does it affect you? You sound bitter.

SaffronsMadAboutMe · 13/09/2024 22:34

Ahh of course it's 5 bedrooms and detached.

I didn't doubt that for a second.

How many TVs, cars and goats does she have?

WiddlinDiddlin · 13/09/2024 22:34

I've just had to switch to UC as working tax credits are ending.

No one has taken the blindest bit of interest in what my house is worth.

Why is it relevant?

Do you know for certain she is not declaring her income, and is claiming a means tested benefit?

I sometimes do cash in hand work, I also claim benefits, not all of them are means tested and I do declare my income (which means some months I don't get certain benefits).

I think only a very tiny handful of my friends would have a CLUE how my income is generated or what benefits I get or how I do my accounts, because its not something I typically discuss and is none of their business.

Please could you tell me where I can get a swanky 5 bed detached house for 250k?

Where do you live that a five bedroomed house is only two hundred and fifty grand? You'd struggle to get a single car garage for that round here.

Bluecherrysorbet · 13/09/2024 22:40

A council house obviously as OP has alluded to taxpayers contributing towards it. If so, it doesn't matter how much it's worth because it belongs to the council or housing association. It's useful to state the worth to manipulate the responses though.

These shitposts are all the same.
