Does your job stress you out?

If you work full time because you need the money (not because you want to for whatever reason besides needing to bring home the money), does your job stress you out? I'm also going to say not because you worry about losing it (again, for whatever reason). But because you have harsh (and hard) deadlines, because your clients (if you work in a b2b environment) are demanding but you can't just say 'stuff it' to them, because you have so much on and it simply must get done, and just generally the pressure you have on.

I know there will be people saying you don't have to do so much but in some jobs, especially senior management and/or corporate, it comes with the territory. Same with working beyond your contracted hours - it's expected. And no, we are not suckers for doing that - we have our reasons.

But - once all is said and done. Does your job stress you out? Do you think about it when you're not working? Mine stresses me out most of the time (I run my own company) but overall I enjoy it. So I'm using AIBU as a poll:

AIBU: my job does NOT stress me out on a regular basis (i.e. more than half the time)
AINBU: my job DOES stress me out on a regular basis.

Yes it does, I'm grossly underpaid and over managed for what I do and I find both extremely stressful.

Yes. I have what is known to be a stressful job - but its fine. I can manage the patients and the work. The owner of my business however is another story. Totally incompetent and probably bipolar. Moody and grumpy as 'we're not profitable enough.' Why she decided to buy the place last year I have no idea. I need to leave :(

@JustToBeMe I hear you on the boring. It’s so much better when that sort of 1-1 can be spread between support staff so you get a break, and time with kids that you can converse with and then come back to your 1-1 refreshed. There’s also the frustration and sadness that you feel for the child being in completely the wrong environment.

I'm a teacher too, just 3 days though. I find my job stressful when I am there as my class are terrible at listening and following instructions and it's extremely hard to not be grumpy with them and keep a smile on my face.

However I do manage to put it out my head when I am not at work but that might be because I am so busy at home with 3 children of my own!

GP.. officially “part time” but thats 40 hrs a week.
I am stressed because I cannot get patients seen at all in secondary service eg local women’s hospital will only accept women with cance.. so severe anaemia from bleeding can’t be seen, failed every other treatment. Severe suicidality… can’t be seen. I can’t do my job properly, patients angry with me. Paperwork is crippling. It’s awful.

greengreyblue · 22/09/2024 07:56

@LunaTheCat that is shocking and very worrying.

That sounds awful 😞 thank you for the work that you do. It is scary the current state of health services despite all the great staff

LunaTheCat · 22/09/2024 09:26

Thank you both for your lovely messages 🥰- it means a lot.

Beezknees · 22/09/2024 09:29

Mine doesn't really but I don't tend to stress anyway. I turn up and do the job to the best of my ability which is all I can do. It's customer service based.

I did work for a big company and now for a small company. I find targets quite stressful and also put a lot of pressure on myself. Some weeks are stressful and some not. I think it’s balanced by the fact I work from home so don’t have to deal with commutes and office politics. The thing I find most stressful is other people not working as hard as I do and then having to pick up the slack and have my clients and work affected by their mistakes….Ive always found that lots of other people don’t seem to have the same drive or work ethic as me 🤷‍♀️

Aww wow that is awful. GPs are amazing, you're all doing an amazing job!!

Accountant here.
Yes it has kept me awake many a night, BUT I am trying to change my mindset and get it in to perspective, so that it doesn't take too much of a toll on me.
I'm beginning to realise it's only a job after all.

Tinks15 · 22/09/2024 22:21

Yes I get really stressed…I’m front desk in a secondary school. Workload is insane, not been there long at all but I’m not enjoying it. I miss working in a primary school.
