Always weigh more at night than the morning, is this the norm? Husband says it's not

I always weigh around 3/4 pounds more at night than in the morning, I think that's normal but my husband will weigh the same regardless of when he weighs himself. Am I unusual??

I'm always 2-3lb more at night. If I am weighing myself, I do it first thing before I drink a pretty much pint-sized tea, as that's going to be 1lb alone!

brunettemic · 08/09/2024 19:38

Yep, first thing is usually when you’re lightest. If you want to track your weight best way is to weight yourself for say a week at the same time each day and then average it.

And here's an example of a man pontificating about a woman's health, despite his utter lack of knowledge. A bit like much of the modern medical profession, unfortunately.

Yes, that was my first thought as well.

I weigh one or two pounds less in the morning. That’s normal, as far as my slimming world group goes!

Also to add, my husband does weigh the same anytime he weighs himself which is not very often. He has been the same weight for years.

Get him to weigh himself before bed tonight and after his first morning wee, before he has breakfast (anything to eat or drink), tomorrow.

A litre of water weighs one kilo. You dehydrate overnight and lose between 0.5 to 1 litre in fluid. It's not hard to extrapolate that. Add in the contents of your gut, and you can easily see why weight fluctuates through the day. That's without taking hormonal fluid retention into account.

Or clothes.

Skyrainlight · 08/09/2024 19:47

Totally normal. You've been eating during the day, in the morning you haven't eaten or had much to drink for approx 12 hours and for many they will way after going to the loo.

StMarieforme · 08/09/2024 19:48

Totally normal. That's why you should weigh at the same time every day.

There is a big difference between him being the same weight on the 2nd of February PM and 18th of March AM and him being the exact same weight on the evening of the 7th of September and the morning of the 8th. That would just never happen.

It's perfectly normal. You are at your lightest in the morning after having a wee and not having eaten or drunk anything for several hours (unless you get up in the night and creep down the kitchen to raid the fridge :-)).

It's always more reassuring to weigh yourself first thing.

Auburngal · 08/09/2024 19:49

Food and water retention make you gain weight in the day. Normal

thinkfast · 08/09/2024 19:50

It's normal for your weight to be different at different times of day, which is why you should always weigh yourself at the same time of day

Demonhunter · 08/09/2024 20:03

Yep just the same as majority of people measure half an inch taller in the morning than they do at night.

Newsenmum · 08/09/2024 20:04

It’s completely normal and that’s why you’re always told to weigh yourself in the morning.

Boniwa · 08/09/2024 20:04

Yep.

I always weigh about 2/3lbs more at night

Flibflobflibflob · 08/09/2024 20:06

I weight about 4lbs more at night than I do in the morning. Totally normal.

Glittertwins · 08/09/2024 20:10

I'll add mine agreement with the numbers too!!

oObyeOo · 08/09/2024 20:11

3 pages of the same answer 🙄

Fluffyhoglets · 08/09/2024 20:13

Yes I'm just the same.
Men are made differently so their bodies act differently .

KreedKafer · 08/09/2024 19:21

A fluctuation of 1-4lbs is normal. A fluctuation of a stone is not.

I have got MS nothing about me is 'normal' but it is fine, and weight gain/loss over 24 hrs varies massively by person and body type

Rory17384949 · 08/09/2024 20:37

It's because you're a woman. I worked with someone who had a PhD in sports science and he said women's weights fluctuate loads more than men's.

Gettingbysomehow · 08/09/2024 20:39

Of course it's completely normal. You,ve been eating and drinking all day!!! Why fo you think so many people weigh themselves first yji g with no clothes on. Your H is being ridiculous.

redtrain123 · 08/09/2024 20:54

Perfectly normal to weigh more in the evening.

The trick is to weigh yourself the same time each week. I’m a ‘first thing’ person.

greengreyblue · 08/09/2024 20:55

Yes it’s absolutely normal. What does it have to do with your DH?

Scoobyblue · 08/09/2024 20:56

Yes normal. I always weigh myself after I’ve been to the toilet first thing in the morning. Not that I want to weigh less really but just that it is a consistent baseline.

greengreyblue · 08/09/2024 21:00

I always weigh at the same time every time so you have a comparison. I will weigh first thing after a wee and naked. So long as I only weigh that way I will get a good comparison.
