To think it's a bit early for fireworks?

Surprisingly, this year, it started two weeks ago Confused
It usually begins around late October. I was obviously ignorant to the fact that many sales are all year round, perhaps been living under a stone?

All of the local dogs are upset, it is starting at around 6pm and only petering off at midnight or thereabouts.

It's a middling kind of area, a mixture of social backgrounds, etc, but definitely becoming more aggressive in general since covid.

Anyone else?

I am actually surprised we haven't had more tbh. I will expect more for Diwali

D12troop · 07/09/2024 21:31

Seen this on my local facebook page. Its never too early for fireworks as they're sold all year round. It just gives the terminally outraged dog owners to rant on about how Fido has just shat his load all over the rug and is now crying cowering under the sofa.

We live semi rurally. Fireworks and livestock do not mix.

MintTwirl · 07/09/2024 21:42

We get them all year around, often at midnight or later and always the very very loud ones. I wish there was more control over them as it is so antisocial.

FloralGums · 07/09/2024 21:42

Maybe a wedding celebration?

LivelyGoldOrca · 07/09/2024 21:42

There a big load going on now outside where I live, like a display. Too early for diwali… anything else celebration wise going on anyone know?

We are sheep farmers & every year we lose lambs to abortion caused by fireworks.
We try to time tupping to minimize it but it just seems relentless now from September through to mid January.
Every religious festival now seems to have some 'right' to let off explosions. They have become much louder too.
The rockets also land in our fields & have also caused a fire in a hay store.

No my point is you cant curtail other peoples legal fun for fear of offence. Look at boy racer cars now with the pops and bangs remaps on their exhausts. They scare the shit out of people but if its legal its legal.

I am very sorry for your loss.

The dog owners complaining do sometimes get annoying to me as as I work with clients with special needs who love fireworks - one in particular for whom the nights of big displays are the highlight of his year and something he gets excited about months in advance and talks about for weeks after. It's just one specific small group of individuals but it is a massive highlight in lives that are sadly fairly limited (the biggest firework fan has no family at all and limited friendships).

There are conflicts of needs/ wants and perhaps on balance fireworks shouldn't be allowed - there are a lot of very genuine reasons and nobody actually needs them...

LivelyGoldOrca · 07/09/2024 21:49

Yes a wedding seems a possibility.

0BonneMaman0 · 07/09/2024 21:53

Love fireworks!

Neither my dog or my cat are bothered by them in the slightest though.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 07/09/2024 22:05

We've had a lot of fireworks here tonight as well. I wasn't sure if there was a festival or religious holiday I was unaware of.

D12troop · 07/09/2024 22:07

Do any of you live in Derbyshire!?

Nellieinthebarn · 07/09/2024 22:09

In Sussex Bonfire season starts in Early September and lasts until the end of November.

GladAllOver · 07/09/2024 22:12

There's a wedding venue near us. It seems fireworks are a standard part of weddings now. Bloody annoying for the neighbours.

Tagyoureit · 07/09/2024 22:14

I've not heard any going off round where I live in SE London. Dewali isn't til the end on next month.
Do you live near a wedding venue?

Okonomoyaki · 07/09/2024 22:35

Hey Mumsnet admin,

I'd really appreciate some contact as to why my original message detailing the impact of fireworks on veterans was deleted. Any chance of a message / explanation as it seems pretty arbitrary?

TheHateIsNotGood · 07/09/2024 22:45

Fireworks have been seriously 'clamped down' in my little town as it is perceived to upset The Starlings.

Maybe you could encourage a Murmaration into your locale and then campaign to 'protect' them. I have no clue why The Starlings came here and stayed throughout decades of fireworks and centuries of raucous celebrations but apparently the little darlings are upset by them now.

Ooh my post has been hidden. No idea why, definitely nothing rude or offensive in it.

Basically yes, I was agreeing too early! Sick of them.
