To be sick of Lime bikes being dumped in my street?

This seems to be a growing problem. I am in London, with pretty narrow footpaths. We keep having these Lime bikes being left in really inconvenient places, including in the middle of footpaths, blocking the way. I was just looking out of my window and spotted someone leaving one of these bikes right outside my house, almost blocking my gate. I don’t understand how this is allowed.

I just googled and apparently one borough in London is thinking of banning them if they are not put in designated bays.

I agree that these bikes are a great idea but there has to be a better way!

I don't live in London, but when I go to my sons tutor there is one bike every 100m are so. Mostly on their side covering most of the path or worse as you say in the middle of the path. I'd not be happy if I livef there and parked outside my house. They must fall onto cars often.

The idea is good but just dumping them is all kinds of wrong.

InandOutlander · 06/09/2024 20:49

I agree it's irritating but they're not permanent objects, just move it!

Digimoor · 06/09/2024 21:04

If you are in London there is an app called Love Clean Streets
You can report all sorts of stuff - fly tipping/ graffiti / and lime bikes or other hire bikes

Completely agree. Also in London. They also get dumped in parking bays or overspill into parking bays when there are too many in one place and I have had to try to move them which is impossible as they’re really heavy and start alarming. There are hardly enough parking bays as it is so this is an added nuisance.

Plus I don’t understand how wheelchair users can go round them when they’re dumped in the middle of pavements.

Bonjovispjs · 06/09/2024 21:13

I'm in Brent, the borough that's thinking about banning them, hope it goes ahead. I've seen them left right in the middle of roads before.

Howdyboob · 06/09/2024 21:17

Voi are everywhere here. I'd rather teens were on these tiny things than loud mopeds. At least it's more likely they'll injure themselves than any civilians.

This made me laugh on next door recently though. Little scrotes going along with a fucking wheelie bin. I'll be on the next UFO please

They are quite heavy to move and the wheel is locked so you can’t just wheel them out of the way.

I'm sick of them blocking the pavement - being left over our drive, blocking crossings.

it must be a bloody nightmare for people in wheelchairs, blind people, those with buggies etc

And pray tell how is someone like myself who is disabled supposed to move a heavy sodding bike so I can walk the pavement? Or people in wheelchairs, the elderly, heavily pregnant or mobility scooter riders. You can't imagine how this might effect others?!!

Completely agree. I am relatively young and able-bodied, and those things are ridiculously heavy. My non disabled mother can't lift them when they are left blocking the parking space outside her house. Ban the bloody things!

Longhotsummers · 06/09/2024 21:34

Contact Lime every time. They’re quite responsive about moving them.

Bruisername · 06/09/2024 21:36

How do you contact them without having to register though? I don’t want to have to give them all my details and I can’t find a way to report without

They aren't that easy to move when you've got a couple of kids and a pram. If you're elderly or using a wheelchair, impossible.

Im a cyclist and totally support the use of rental bikes. The Barclays Bikes have been brilliant. But unlike those, which have to be parked up in a rack, Lime bikes are left flung across the pavements.

ChocHotolate · 06/09/2024 21:40

The few times I've used a line bike I've had to submit a photo to show I'd "parked" it responsibly or else I couldn' finish the session. I don't understand how these ones get dumped

They’re really heavy and have to be lifted as you can’t wheel them out way. They’re a fucking nuisance.

You can't move it. I was heavily pregnant when I tried to move one where it was dumped in front of my car and I couldn't, a builder smoking came to help me.

bunnypenny · 06/09/2024 21:44

Also in London, I hate them, I live near a secondary school and the kids nick them (the ridiculous loud clicking noise) and then dump them in the middle of the road or pavement. I hate them.

OneEightTwo · 06/09/2024 21:46

What is a lime bike?? I’m off for a Google.

Bruisername · 06/09/2024 21:46

Oh I was wondering what that annoying clicking noise was! I assumed they were broken

how do they switch the bloody brake off! I would love to know as would make moving them so much easier

CraigBrown · 06/09/2024 21:48

Totally agree, op. They’re also a complete nightmare for disabled people- ok for able bodied to go round a bike or move it, much harder if you’re blind or in a wheelchair. I’ve no idea how this was ever seen as ok- feel like I must have missed an email where it was decided it was ok just to dump bikes in the middle of the pavement.

It just needs a few tweaks to the system to make it work- parking bays for the bikes and a penalty for users who dump them. I generally love the bikes, just not what people do with them.

EmeraldRoulette · 06/09/2024 21:49

The rules are ridiculous

you should get fined a lot if it’s not docked

how did they avoid that problem with the Barclays/Santander bikes? It does seem like Lime don’t want to address it.

lateatwork · 06/09/2024 21:50

Have loads of them on my street. And the council have kindly popped in a couple of dedicated places to park them- also on my street. But often seems far too much effort for some users so now they are left on the road and pavement.
Personally, would be happy for the street to be blocked, parking spaces removed and they can be just left in the road- leaving pavement free for pedestrians

So the oap or the person in a wheel chair just moves it.

namechanged48484884 · 06/09/2024 21:50

Same here. London and they are everywhere. An elderly neighbour had one left across her front gate and had to ask a passerby to free her.

They are such a good idea though. I just wish they were not left in the way.

Stanleycupsarecool · 06/09/2024 21:59

In other countries they have to be rode from and to a designated area, it won’t let you finish the session unless it’s in one.

They're incredibly heavy, very difficult to just wheel around, unless you are logged in to use it. I guess they're automatically locked when not in use.
