DTwins are 4, and very tall. 120cm. Heavy too.

We'd like to do some evening things as a family this winter, several late fireworks displays, some evening Christmas markets, and they both tire quite quickly after 6pm. We want something they could snuggle up in, with enough visibility that they can still see what's going on, but comfy/spacious enough that they could fall asleep if needs be.

We do have one of those trolleys that you can load up for the beach, which they are too heavy to sit in now, and are too big to share a space like this without being a tangle of legs booting each other.

They haven't been in a buggy for the best part of a year Boy twin is quite lazy and would happily sit in a buggy were we to ever use one again, but we can't get a single, as girl twin is a lot more "no I'm a big girl," but also contrary enough to want to sit in a buggy if she thought her brother was getting the only ride available. So, a double buggy is the only thing possible really.

Is there a really big stroller that would be suitable for us to take to events like this this? Or an alternative? I'm rather short, and slim (essentially a bit weak lol), so carrying one for any period of time isn't really a possibility for me now they're so big. DH can carry one. But it would be nice if we could set them down into something where they could nap and we could relax a little.

Thank you

Honestly, i wouldn't spend money on this. It will be terrifically expensive as to get something big enough you may need to look at options aimed at SEN.

Just wait until they are old enough to manage evening events properly. With kids you do sometimes have to accept you can't do everything you want to.

Twins are different to "kids". As a parent to DC who aren't twins and can see the direct comparison, it's really not the same logistically as taking two children of different ages.

(Awaits someone to announce they've had their kids close together, so have basically got the same thing. No. No you haven't...)

I was about to jump in also to say NOT the iCandy peach as well -l can’t see our bigger twin fitting in it after Christmas and she won’t even be 2 by that point.

@LePetitMaman great question, l have been wondering how to get my twins around going forward

Yep, we had the bugaboo and our beanpoles were dangling out of it by 2.5yrs.

Do you absolutely need it to be a double or can you do two singles, you seem to speak as though you're not a single parent, so it could give you more choice?

There is more choice in the disabled pram market - not a wheelchair, but those heavier duty prams for children with walking difficulties who are a little older, but they're more expensive. Perhaps if you do a bit of research in that category and then look for second hand ?

It doesn't have to be a double, yes there is DH. But the issue is, if they both want to sit, that's fine with two single buggies - if one wants to sit but the other wants to walk, then one person is pushing a twin in a buggy, but the other is holding the hand of the other whilst carrying the unused single buggy as well.

Baby jogger or Mountain Buggy... both can fit really big kids in ( I have a photo of my adult DD sitting in dgs's mountain buggy!!!)

We also used a Mountain Buggy until DS 1 turned six. But it is big and heavy!

Don’t listen to naysayers on here saying don’t use a buggy. You know your kids, if you feel like you need a buggy then get one.

I have twins OP - they will be 3 in November we have the baby jogger city mini GT, I got it second hand from marketplace for £30. It fits through doors, is pretty great on various different terrains, the hoods are fantastic come down really low and have big viewing windows in each part of the hood (great for fireworks displays, you can lay them back and let them watch through the hoods as we had to do this last year as it was raining) there is loads of room in yet, my twins will easily fit until age 4 as my 6 year old can fit in it, though she prefers to stand on the rear bar ride on the back and when she does this with the twins in seats it’s still easy to push! So I can’t sing its praises high enough, not the prettiest to look at but everything else outweighs that by a mile. They are very easily found second hand on marketplace and the like.

Good point. Well there are doubles designed for children with additional needs, try freedomforkids.co.uk but they're pricey, but as I said maybe you'll spot a good one then find it second hand.

RoseGoldEagle · 06/09/2024 18:52

Some of these posts are bizarre. I have an almost 4 year old and will absolutely take our stroller to fireworks and Christmas events this year. She’ll enjoy the event and then we (including her slightly older siblings) can enjoy them slightly later than we would if she didn’t have somewhere to sit/nap. No one will bat an eyelid, so not sure why it’s any different to the OP’s situation just because she has twins!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 06/09/2024 18:53

Nipper out n about- it's a 3 wheeler with suspension. My god its amazing. Worth it's weight in gold.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 06/09/2024 18:56

I have a second hand one it's quite a few years old so slightly different to the model shown but similar enough. My 3.5 year old loves it. We can go out walking all day long and he just hops in for a rest with the baby whenever he fancies. Can fit sooo much shopping on too! The suspension is amazing on dodgy terrain and also its magic how large yet narrow it is for a double.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 06/09/2024 18:58

Also it feels really light to push even when loaded with 2 kids and shopping.

itsgettingweird · 06/09/2024 18:59

If they can't both fit in one festival trolley could you not just get another and pull one each?

They are perfect to snuggle up in.

But you can get ones for more than one child as I see the local nurseries taking children out on them!

itsgettingweird · 06/09/2024 19:02

Not really. One is holding the hand of the child whilst pushing the single buggy.

I managed that for years as a single parent.

It's what you always do with 1 or more if they aren't actually sitting in the buggy.

Viewfrommyhouse · 06/09/2024 19:05

Baby Jogger CMGT Double - make sure it's the GT version, not just the regular double.

LePetitMaman · 06/09/2024 18:16

You have to wonder if some people read the thread.

A chair. That'll be excellent in a Christmas market.

Maybe I read 'fireworks events' and then got bored

LucyLocketLovesPollyPocket · 06/09/2024 19:39

Get one second hand, you can then sell it on for pretty much the same price if its still in good condition. I rate the baby jogger, it did my two for a long while. Other than that it'd be Mountain buggy.

Another option might be a high weight single with a buggy board.

blueberrycherubandbump · 06/09/2024 19:48

Devils advocate but if you and your partner will be at these events could you carry them each in a toddler carrier? Tula goes up to quite a high age and they're comfy especially if you're popping them in and out at an event. Also good for them getting a good view over crowds. I know carrying a 4 year old sounds ridiculous but it is very easy.

PlantFoood · 06/09/2024 20:07

Another vote for baby jogger. We have the city tour and my 4 year old went in it to get back to the car after doing a mammoth amount of steps around chatsworth house and gardens. It was a bit of a squeeze but would be fine for quick in and outs.

StuckOnTheCeiling · 06/09/2024 20:14

Baby jogger city mini GT double, or the out n about double. Both excellent. Both the size of a small elephant when folded so check car boot size! Buy secondhand!

Mine were frequently in buggy at 4, even occasionally after that. Zero impact on walking ability, independence, etc, everyone happier in situations where the buggy was more appropriate. I don’t understand why people get weirdly judgy about it.

So maybe don't comment irrelevant things if you can't be arsed to actually read the thread you're commenting on?...

DH probably could.

I can't.

And they kind of have to have the same "thing" because girl twin can't abide the idea that her brother might have a better deal. Diva she is.

I'm definitely going to look at the jogger and the out n about secondhand.

It's more someone having to carry an unused folded pushchair around the whole time.

One singleton buggy is perfectly easy with two different aged children, I know this. Twins aren't the same.

Yep I definitely think second hand is the way forward. We won't need it next year, but they're just on the cusp of that being too tired to walk, and it's dark etc etc

There seem to be a few on FB but the ones nearby are all rather battered so I'll set up a search with alerts I think.
