To hate the phrase "Mummy MOT"?

I am not a fucking car, it's dehumanising. And don't even get me started on all the "Mummy" bollocks.

What's wrong with calling these Pelvic Health checks, Postnatal Physio etc?

(This rant may really be about the woeful lack of joined-up postpartum care in the UK)

Literally never heard it referred to as that. But if I did it wouldnt bother me in the slightest. Just like when someone goes for a health check and say themselves they are going for an MOT.

SophiaJ8 · 03/09/2024 13:46

I’ve never heard anyone use this term.

Is it some awful blogger-types using it?

Fair enough.

It's really common language for these where I live.

Is this for the postnatal six week check? I've only ever heard it called a six week check if so.

longdistanceclaraclara · 03/09/2024 14:00

Also never heard of it

Not sure. I never got one of those.

I'm referring to private appointments.

I've heard it lots, seen it offered on Instagram and on my local mum's Facebook group

It doesn't really bother me but can see why it would

Opinionvoice · 03/09/2024 14:02

I have never heard this before, but when I did just now in your post, it did make me want to vomit, so YANBU.

invisiblecat · 03/09/2024 14:03

It is cringeworthy. I'm with you on that one.

ilikecatsandponies · 03/09/2024 14:04

I had one. It's done by a private physio and it's branded to differentiate it from the GP six week check which could be great or rubbish depending on your GP. It is about your core and pelvic floor.
I do think it's something which should be offered to all women not just those that can pay, and that's the bit which is worth being annoyed about.

Opinionvoice · 03/09/2024 14:05

And I don't really want another grown adult referring to me as ' Mummy' unless they are talking to my young child about me.

Very much agree with your last paragraph. And that's what my anger is really about. But I was just corrected on the phone by a receptionist when I tried to book a postnatal check.

They are also for scars and scar tissue.

I’ve heard of mummy makeovers that some of the instahuns go to turkey for usually a boob job/uplift, lipo and tummy tuck but never a mummy MOT, I’m guessing it’s not the same thing 😂

autienotnaughty · 03/09/2024 15:02

My dads 85 he gets invited in for his yearly mot

shellyleppard · 03/09/2024 15:03

First time I've heard it tbh.....

CTW23 · 03/09/2024 15:10

My understand in t is that it's a patented course name. I saw a physio who offered it but she cringed when she used the term. Said it's what all physios do anyway but clients search for 'mummy mot' post birth so to gain clients, she did the course. Said it was super expensive and nothing new.

Bedtime91 · 03/09/2024 15:16

I agree that the name is cringe but it's like the 'brand name' if you will, of a specific check up.

I've had it twice and I do highly recommend it post natally especially if you enjoy exercise. I have a mild double prolapse which would have gone undiagnosed otherwise

Newsenmum · 03/09/2024 15:18

Mummy makeover is the worst!

Dont have one then if it bothers you so much.

SnowdropCrocus · 03/09/2024 15:21

I saw it used in a news article about the woman who went to Turkey for a butt lift and died from it. It said the Doctors had been offering the butt lift as part of a Mummy MOT

JennyTalia · 03/09/2024 15:27

A Mot is a vagina in the north at least.

Beforetheend · 03/09/2024 15:29

I think it derives from the trend to use those terms in reference to men’s health because traditionally they have neglected their health but take care of their cars.

I find it a horrible, dehumanising phrase and tbh it would put me off a bit. I’m autistic though and awful metaphors can make my brain itch a bit.
