To hate the phrase "Mummy MOT"?

I am not a fucking car, it's dehumanising. And don't even get me started on all the "Mummy" bollocks.

What's wrong with calling these Pelvic Health checks, Postnatal Physio etc?

(This rant may really be about the woeful lack of joined-up postpartum care in the UK)

I also found it quite cringe when I had my first, and it actually put me off booking one. Which was stupid, because booking one was one of the best things I did for my postpartum recovery. But I agree with others, it's a brand name, catchy slogan type thing, that people search for now.

EveryKneeShallBow · 03/09/2024 15:34

Never heard of it, it sounds cringy, but probably a good idea.

OneKookyPinkShaker · 03/09/2024 17:21

I agree the name is so so cringe, but it is one of the best things I did for myself. I was told by my GP I had a prolapse at my 6 week check up but they didn't really give me and help or advice - seemed annoyed I'd actually asked to be examined - her attitude was pretty much you had a baby what did you expect.

Postnatal care has been awful for me on the NHS.

purpleme12 · 03/09/2024 17:24

I have never heard of that before 😂

veritasverity · 03/09/2024 17:32

Well I suppose you transport your baby in the womb and then it motors through the birth canal or abdomen. And I guess the nhs is a government run organisation so I suppose a mummy Ministry Of Transport check isn't completely unreasonable!
It's more the 'mummy' bit that bothers me though!

Strugglebus86 · 03/09/2024 18:06

I agree for the most part but I had one after a birth injury and I think they should be par for the course after every birth.
Pelvic floor physios are amazing mythical beings in my book!

Fair enough.

It's really common language for these where I live.

You really need to move to a better area.
😉😁😁.

Thepeopleversuswork · 03/09/2024 18:25

I have never heard it. Clearly not spending enough time on Instagram.

I agree it’s cringe-o-rama.

Any phrase that uses “Mum” or “Mummy” as a category like this makes me want to leave the room in embarrassment. See also:

”Full time Mummy”
”Mummy mode”

etc etc

onwardsup4 · 03/09/2024 19:23

Not as bad as mommy make over, boob job, tummy tuck with the fat from that put in the buttocks.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/09/2024 19:25

Never heard anyone say that.

AudHvamm · 04/09/2024 14:42

I didn't realise it's a trademarked name for a particular training (and possibly a pun?)

Nearly 3/4 voted they don't like the name. I agree with other posters it's a shame if that puts anyone off something that benefits women's health.

And for those saying don't bother or similar that's generally the attitude to postnatal health in the UK, that and adverts for Tena.

I was so surprised by the lack of care once you have given birth. Surely earlier intervention would save so many issues further down the line

HitsAndMrs · 04/09/2024 15:36

I am a physio and have trained with the Mummy MOT clinic in London. It is a brand name but just means I can carry out a postnatal check. Pelvic health physios will do more in addition to postnatal checks. We don't get taught this at undergraduate level, so I'd had to look at private courses or a postgraduate.

BotterMon · 04/09/2024 15:38

Considering MOT stands for Ministry of Transport yes it's fucking weird!

nOasistickets · 04/09/2024 15:55

Crap thanks for reminding me OP I need to get my cat into MOT😫

mitogoshi · 04/09/2024 15:57

Never heard of it, 6 week check up is all I've been offered
