Waited in today for a delivery, I chose Next Day (for £6!) as I need to wear what I’ve ordered to a wedding reception tonight because nothing else fits me at 6 months pregnant 😤

Received an email at 3pm saying that nobody was in but I was in the kitchen at the time, so right by the door! Nobody knocked or rang the bell (they didn’t even come through the gate!) and the dog didn’t bark either, so I know nobody attempted delivery. Now my parcel won’t be delivered until Monday and I’ve now got two hours to find something in my wardrobe that’s going to fit around my belly and not make me look like a sack of spuds 😭

I’m having a shit time of things atm and was looking forward to wearing something pretty 😫 not the end of the world in the grand scheme of things but I just wanted a wee rant!

Happened to me too-posties do a stealth-knock-and-run round here

hereismydog · 01/09/2024 14:31

I dug out a trusty old jumpsuit that still fit so the wedding reception was salvageable!

However, DP is taking me away on Monday and there’s a lovely afternoon tea and fancy dinner involved so I would’ve liked to wear something nice for that! Hopefully the postie comes on Monday morning before we have to leave 🫣 then going on holiday Wednesday so it had better be here by then or I shall have no bikinis!

This happened years ago. I was standing at my front window waiting for a taxi and I watched the post,an walk down the path to deliver out mail. When I went through to get it it was one of those we tried to deliver but you were out cards. Clearly he didn’t even take the parcel out with him, just the attempted delivery card. I went out to ask him about it but the bugger had disappeared. He must have hid because he was nowhere on the street…

I had taken a day off work to wait for a important delivery years ago, postie arrived and left a red card amongst my letters. I went out and caught him leaving a neighbours and he apologised and said 'we don't bring them now as you're never usually in' 🙄. It's true that I worked FT but I worked compressed hours so had at least 1 weekday off a week, they just presumed I wouldn't be home so didn't bother delivering my parcels unless I requested a specific redelivery date. Bloody hopeless

Sleepytiredyawn · 01/09/2024 18:29

If you’re ever expecting a parcel from Royal Mail leave your front door open and your vestibule door closed if you have one. Half the time they try your door to dump the parcel without knocking…then post your post through the door (you see it stuck in the letter box).

I bollocked a Mail man for this as if I’d have been around the back sorting washing (one door to property and it’s at the side of the bungalow) the way he left the box, I wouldn’t have gotten back in if I’d have been outside.

I was in the bath the other week, I’d left the front door unlocked as the cats were out but locked my vestibule door, bathroom window open, right next to front door, I had the shout out to open the door and leave the parcel, oh the shame… I just know it was the same Mail man 😂

WaneyEdge · 01/09/2024 18:37

Our normal postie is ace. The one who does parcels less so. I had an email saying no one in, but no card. Very annoyed as I would have gone to collect it from the sorting office but can’t without a card. Got in touch via Twitter.

Parcel postie then asked DH the next day why I’d complained 🙄. They seem to have taken away the option of having it delivered to your nearest post office too, no longer an option on the app.

Horses7 · 01/09/2024 19:50

I’ve had exactly this too with RM - all the other delivery firms don’t have the same problem. Evri/Amazon are totally different ie good!

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 01/09/2024 20:25

I’ve also had the excuse of ‘your property is inaccessible’. Nope, pretty sure it’s still on the same flat driveway from the same flat lane off the same flat A road that it’s been on since it was built.

I have to say though, I wouldn’t be ordering important stuff quite as late as you seem to leave it Op.

Arthur2shedsJackson · 01/09/2024 20:34

The most ridiculous email I’ve had from RM, when I’ve been expecting a delivery from them, is to say they’ve been asked not to deliver to my address today and will do so at the next opportunuty.Asked by whom? They don’t say. I’ve had a least a dozen of these in the last year. WTF?

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 01/09/2024 20:38

I was also informed that the 24hr signed for service actually gives them 5 working days to deliver an item

Why does nobody hold them to account for this? Does the head of RM know where all the bodies are buried? This would have most small companies shamed on Watchdog for such deliberately deceitful business practices.

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 01/09/2024 20:40

Probably because they've been busily closing all of the proper post offices down and moving them into the corner of your local convenience store - they no longer have the space to store all the parcels waiting to be collected.

FirstTimeHomeowner · 01/09/2024 20:41

RM have been shit lately! I'm still looking for a parcel that apparently got left outside my back door last week 😂

angela1952 · 01/09/2024 21:14

rosesinmygarden · 31/08/2024 16:34

I've had this happen 3 times this week with RM. There has been at least one person at home every single time so I think they just ran out of time and didn't even come to the house.

On one occasion we heard the card come through the door, went out and caught up with the postman before he left. He didn't actually have the parcel with him.

angela1952 · 01/09/2024 21:18

The worst aspect for me is mail getting lost. We sent a large cheque which never arrived, sent another by "Signed For" which was never marked as received or signed for on the tracking. The last packet we sent to our accountant by "Signed For" took a week to arrive.
We're so pissed off by Royal Mail and simply don't trust them: when we had a big package of documents to send to a solicitor during a house sale we actually paid for a motor cycle courier to do it, horrendously expensive but there was no alternative other than taking it by train ourselves

Blue78ivy · 01/09/2024 21:21

Royal mail take weeks but Evri take days
So I do panic when i see royal mail as postage when i order stuff i do try to avoid RM

Even though the receipt says that they will try to deliver it the next working day if it is posted by a certain time! The telephone number on the tracking site gives you an automated system which can only confirm that they have the item and advises that there will be no further information until the item is delivered. And if it doesn't arrive there is actually no way of contacting a human being, by phone or email, on the tracking website. Some items that we have sent have actually never been shown as delivered, though most (but not all) have arrived.

TheMauveBeaker · 01/09/2024 21:55

Royal Mail are awful. I’ve no faith in them anymore. They tried to deliver a parcel to me no fewer than 6 times, despite me designating a ‘safe place’ via the app, online and finally verbally. I complained bitterly and hope some action was taken. Think it probably was as she doesn’t speak to me now. No loss.
If I have the option of choosing a different delivery service when ordering online, I take it. Never had any problems with Evri, even when they were Hermes.

HighOnMaiden · 01/09/2024 22:28

I had a next day delivery not appear once. I was rather annoyed as I’d waited in. The RM tracking changed to read ‘you told us your address was not accepting deliveries’ or words to that effect.
Called them, emailed them. Couldn’t get an answer.

it did appear two days later, but being the stubborn sort I put in a SAR to the local depot, pointing out that if someone was indeed requesting my mail not to be delivered it was a rather serious matter, if not quite possibly criminal as it was not me.

It was at this point they admitted that if they didn’t have enough staff to deliver they would bump parcels using that code from the rounds. This meant that on paper it was the customer and not Royal Mail at fault and meant that then RM wouldn’t be responsible for any likely compensation for failure to deliver.
Very very sneaky indeed and I’ve heard of it happening to a few people.

TwitchyJerk · 01/09/2024 22:35

So rubbish. I received a letter though my letter box the other day but noticed a "signed for" sticker on it. So surely they should have knocked and asked me to sign?

It might not be your usual post man though, I've noticed our regular guy come round with the letters in the morning and then parcels with random people I've never seen before later. So don't get mad at the individual...

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 02/09/2024 07:45

Have you actually complained to the company you ordered the garment from? (and who took your £6 for 'next day delivery'? And asked them to refund you as you haven't received what you've paid for?
They're the Royal Mail's 'customer' in this case, and as such, their complaints to the RM are more likely to be listened to/ have an impact.

How many people would ever want to do this in reality? If you're going away on holiday, you wouldn't order parcels to arrive when you aren't there, and letters/cards can just wait on your doormat until you return. Absolute disgrace.

Imagine getting angry at your customers for wanting you to do your actual job that you've been paid for!

We only seem to get post delivered once or twice a week here. A relative sent me a card which apparently included some personal, irreplaceable stuff of my late dad's inside last Sunday and it hasn't arrived. She doesn't understand signed for/tracked etc, she just put two stamps on it and put it in the post box. I'm really concerned it's got lost.

ArabellaFishwife · 02/09/2024 16:25

Hope it turns up, @voiceofastar . Today's post brought a great pile of business correspondence, about a week's worth, in fact, with at least 2 items dated 12 days ago. They weren't all for me.
