I've just been setting up an old Kindle for DD and going through and downloading "suitable" books from my library, with the intention of then setting it to only display the downloaded books. But... she's 12 now. Do I really need to still do this?

YABU - I let my 12 year old read anything
YANBU - some things (murder, rape, violence etc) a 12 year old doesn't need to read

I read anything I could get my hands on at that age. To be honest, some of the stuff like Marian Keyes, Sue Townsend, even Maeve Binchy had stuff in it that was really very confusing for me, I was just too young. Some books are written for adults, they're not intended for children who can't contextualise what they're reading. I think you should keep a close eye on what she's reading and try to talk to her about it.

You keep an eye on it, just as you would if they were reading physical books. I read a lot of Jean Plaidy at that age, which DDad cheerfully described as ‘bodice rippers’.

Hunger games was recommended by my DDs primary school teacher for her. She loved it... started when she was 10.
