My 5, nearly 6 year old has size 1 feet!

We had him measured today for school
shoes and he’s a size 1, when I looked online it said that was typical for an 8 year old!
Is this foot size unusual on such a young child?! He’s one of the tallest in his class too so I guess that plays a part.

My tall, lanky non-identical girl twins, aged 6, are in size 1s now. Most of the other girls in their class are in size 9-10.
I'm 5'8", with size 7.5ish feet, so maybe they get their big flippers from me?!

Bellaphant · 30/08/2024 00:54

My just turned 5 ds has jumped from a 10 to a 12 this year: his 3 Yr old sister is already an 8. I'm an adult 7 and my husband is a 12

Pieceofpurplesky · 30/08/2024 02:14

Mine had massive feet. Even when he was born! He is 20 now, over 6 foot and size 11-5 feet

sykadelic · 30/08/2024 03:05

My 7 yo DS has size 5 and is close to needing to upsize to a 6. He's expected to be 5'11 but I'm 5'7" with size 10s so makes sense to me!

Hairyfairy01 · 30/08/2024 03:17

My 10 year old dd had size 8 feet, but then stopped growing thankfully! I am also an 8, dh a 10.

moleeye · 30/08/2024 04:34

My 5 year old ds is a 12.5

My 9 year old dd is a size 4

Their 8 year old cousin is a size 11

PeloMom · 30/08/2024 04:36

Same here 🤷🏻‍♀️

50shadedofmagnolia · 30/08/2024 04:56

My almost 11 year old daughter has size 1 feet 😂.
But she's the smallest in her school year by far and would look silly with bigger feet 🤷‍♀️.
But her brother had size 1 feet age five and he's very tall for his age .
There is definitely a huge range of normal for growing children

coffeeandascarf · 30/08/2024 05:19

Mine too, size 1 shoes to go into year 1. Our cleaner said they are the same size as her shoes which my son thinks is really funny.

Spacemoon · 30/08/2024 06:45

My daughter is the same age and same shoe size. My son was a 1.5 at that age. Some kids feet grow quicker than others. It's a none issue - besides maybe the cost of so many shoes for constant growing feet 🤣

TeachesOfPeaches · 30/08/2024 06:53

My son is 8 and an adult size 4 and I'm a 5. Will be sharing shoes soon

Ghost92 · 30/08/2024 06:56

My son is the same, he’s the tallest in his class too. He’s 7 years old and in size 3 now.

Girasoli · 30/08/2024 06:59

My 8 year old is in a size 1
My 4.5 year old is in a size 8/9

I'm only a 4.5 though and fit into girls rather than women's shoes fine.

scrollathon · 30/08/2024 07:01

My nearly 7 year old is a size 2 and short. My daughter who’s much older spent years being a 2/3 then shot to a 5 and hasn’t grown since. It really doesn’t mean much.

Peccary · 30/08/2024 07:02

My daughter has just turned 7 and will likely be a 2 at her next measure. She is tall but not unusually so, her feet are noticeably bigger than her friends. I do feel for her as I can already see her choices reducing for cute shoes.

Hectorscalling · 30/08/2024 07:07

Ds has big feet, he was a one at around 6. He is currently a 10 at age 13. He goes through fits and starts. They seem not to grow for bit then grow really fast.
My dd is twenty and a size 3. There’s 7 years between them and ds was almost 8 when they got to the same shoe size.

Mumistiredzzzz · 30/08/2024 07:08

If he's tall it makes sense, my 5yr old DD is very small and still in junior size 6 lol

niclw · 30/08/2024 07:34

My dc has just measured as size 1 for shoes. They will be 6 in a few weeks. I jokingly told them that they can't have size 1 feet while in reception class. Somehow he remained in 13 and a half until this week so a week before year 1.

kitchenhelprequired · 30/08/2024 07:39

Size 12.5 age 4 and a quarter. Adult size 8.5 at age 10.

Fantatwist23 · 30/08/2024 07:50

Thanks for all your comments.
In terms of height, he’s around 4ft. And definitely one of the tallest in the class.

My poor DS has always had huge feet-the bane of his childhood.
Was given those big clown shoes as a joke and they fitted-no extra comedy room at the front. 😂

Now as an adult he is a UK15.

sugarplum33 · 30/08/2024 11:48

@ALPHAFEMALESINCEBIRTH I'm 🤯 at a newborn with size 8 feet.

OP sounds like your DS has large but not abnormally large feet. My DD is 4 (nearly 5) and has just had her first set of school shoes measured as a 12.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/08/2024 11:56

DS was the same. He's 16 next week, his feet topped out at 13 a couple of years ago.

Rory17384949 · 30/08/2024 16:28

That is quite big, he's probably going to be tall! My 9.5 year old has always been very tall and bow has bigger feet than me (5.5/6)!

SonicTheHodgeheg · 30/08/2024 16:30

Does his dad have big feet ?
My sons have the same size feet as their dad
so I wonder if it’s genetic. My DD’s shoe size is one less than mine (All of my kids are fully grown)
