Mine are

I’d rather be late in this life than early in the next

And

If you want something done properly, do it yourself (bloody annoying but always true)

My favourite 'saying' to my DD's is 'twats are everywhere'.

They are young adults learning to navigate the world and are still surprised at twattish behaviour in their peers, coworkers, random people driving or in supermarkets etc and questioning if they have done something wrong when they have not. It's just that there are unreasonable/unkind/spiteful people to be found in all walks of life.

Sometimes it's 'cunts are everywhere'.

That and 'you can't argue with stupid'.

Doubledded123 · 02/02/2025 22:03

Left the gate open to the cunt farm

There more chance of the pope becoming a lesbian ...

DairyLeanne · 02/02/2025 22:06

My all time favourite is still 'till the cows come home'.

DM used to tuck me up in bed & say “ Snug as a bug in a rug”. Never heard anyone else say it.

My dad always said that

SinnerBoy · 03/02/2025 09:03

My Gran had quite a few; a favourite is;

Might as well try to teach stones to fart.

For any exercise in futility, especially trying to explain something to a hidebound moron.

When describing something boring "its longer than a week in the jail"

Older co worker used to say to the young female students going on holiday "have a good time, don't be one "

She didn’t lick that from a stone (meaning: so someone found something out somehow!)

Oh !
I thought it was "Like father, like son."
They have similar attributes.

KimberleyClark · 03/02/2025 10:21

If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I know it’s a bit cliche but I like it. It’s about looking for the positives and generally seeing the glass as half full not half empty. Having been through infertility and remaining childless it resonates with me.

stayathomer · 03/02/2025 11:45

deeahgwitch

I think I explained it wrong- I think i always thought she/ he learned it somewhere (generally a it’s the parents fault thing), but yes then your way could be the right meaning and I might have ran with something else!!

deeahgwitch · 03/02/2025 12:02

"She didn’t lick it off the ground" is another variation of it @stayathomer

"No good deed goes unpunished"

deeahgwitch · 03/02/2025 19:16

Blood is thicker than water but Love is thicker than blood.

It's a country 'n western song but I thought it was a lovely sentiment.

EndofDaze · 03/02/2025 19:20

No good deed goes unpunished (from my late dad) And might as well be dead as out of the fashion (from my lovely grandma).

People who insist on pointing out that blood is thicker than water never seem too keen to address the elephant in the room: that custard is thicker than blood - so what does that teach us, then?!

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 04/02/2025 06:59

Any one of us can become richer than a billionaire... as long as you outlive them!

Scottishgirl85 · 04/02/2025 06:59

"Time waits for nobody"

And

"Time will tell"

Time is my biggest wonder, and my biggest fear.

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 04/02/2025 07:03

I like the phrase 'The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the second-best time is now'.

I mean, it's not strictly true as 15, 10, 5 years ago would still have been better(!)... but the sentiment is a great one.

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 04/02/2025 07:07

Time flies like an arrow; and fruit flies like a banana!

Time heals all wounds; and wounds all heels!

Time is the greatest healer; unfortunately it kills all of its patients!

Yirk · 04/02/2025 07:18

They are as tight as a ducks arse.
Is the Pope a Catholic? ( stating the obvious)
Put wood in t'hole ( shut the bleeding door!)
