AIBU to vacuum my front garden?

I need to know if I've finally lost it or if I just have judgemental neighbours ?

I regularly vacuum my front garden. I have a mix of artificial grass and paving stones, and it just feels like the easiest way to keep things tidy—especially when leaves, dirt, or small debris build up. It's kind of become a Sunday cleaning habit at this point.

The thing is, some of my neighbors have started giving me weird looks when they see me doing it. A couple of them have even made comments like, "Are you sure you don't want to take that inside?" I usually just laugh it off, but their reaction feels like i'm hoovering up the neighbourhood cat! (which I would never btw)

Now I'm wondering if I should I scale it back or just keep going and keep it a part of my weekly routine?

They'll get used to it just ignore them

SaintHonoria · 25/08/2024 16:44

Back in the 1980s our garden had a rockery and I used to vacuum it to keep it looking tidy!

LoneHydrangea · 25/08/2024 16:44

They’re judging your plastic grass, not the vacuuming.

TheOnlyCherryOnMyTree · 25/08/2024 16:45

Go for it if you want but outside is supposed to have leaves and dirt, it's outside.

This!

sunsetsandboardwalks · 25/08/2024 16:46

They're probably judging you for having plastic grass.

And yes, YABU to vacuum it. Weird behaviour Grin

Dotto · 25/08/2024 16:47

DH doesn't like it when I vacuum the patio, he said it clogs up the filter, I guess there's an outdoor vac more suited to this? But YANBU.

Globetrote · 25/08/2024 16:49

Years ago there was joke or meme about vacuuming your front garden if you wanted the neighbours to give you a wide berth, so maybe there is some foundation in this for you!

StarryDance · 25/08/2024 16:49

Oh no! you have committed a MN sin and admitted to having plastic grass I'd don your hard hat now before you get run outta town.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/08/2024 16:51

If you wear one of these hats when you are vacuuming your front garden. your neighbours will keep away from you.

Yeah, sorry, I think it's weird.

They are probably judging you for the artificial grass, and the hoovering is just making it worse.

The outside world is full of flora and fauna and leaves and dirt and germs. Just leave them. It's outside.

Cherrysoup · 25/08/2024 16:51

I hoovered my real grass lawn one day. The dog had massacred a foam filled toy and it was spread across a wide area. Seemed like the quickest way to get all the tiny pieces. 🤷‍♀️

Hello! I get that plastic grass might seem a bit odd, but it’s actually a lifesaver for our elderly indoor cat who has hay fever. We’re just trying to make her sneezing fits a bit less dramatic! It might look quirky, but seeing her breathe easier is worth it.

You hoover your garden? It’s meant to have leaves and twigs and things isn’t it? On account of it being outside….

JohnTheRevelator · 25/08/2024 16:59

I used to get strange looks from my neighbour when I vacuumed my outside front door mat. I honestly don't see anything wrong with what you're doing.

Oochiesmoochies · 25/08/2024 17:00

Plastic grass and paving slabs isnt a garden.

If she's an indoor cat, how does plastic grass in the front garden help?

Yup

How does plastic grass help an indoor cat? Confused

Opentooffers · 25/08/2024 17:06

It would look less odd if you used an actual garden hoover/blower on it. I should think outside dirt and damp leaves isn't really all that good for your average indoor hoover. Your choice to risk clogging it up though.

goingtotown · 25/08/2024 17:07

I've got an outdoor vacuum, I use it for the car & paving.

lolapenguin · 25/08/2024 17:08

Plastic grass helps us keep things cleaner and reduces pollen/dust, which helps manage our cat’s hay fever. Helps make her environment as comfy as possible!

andsmile · 25/08/2024 17:10

No you are not

I have a leaf lower/sucker upper and vacuum the leaves that get stuck

I also have a Karcher wet and dry outdoor vacuum that I use

Might not look the usual but basically you are vacuuming outside just using your indoor device - does it matter?

i use the outdoor Karcher vac for the car and the downstairs while Henry skives upstairs…..

Just do you 😊

I've heard it all now.

OneTC · 25/08/2024 17:12

I've got a photo of my mum hoovering the garden that I took about 30 years ago and I still laugh about it now.

Knock yourself out.

It is weird though
