AIBU to vacuum my front garden?

lolapenguin · 25/08/2024 16:42

I need to know if I've finally lost it or if I just have judgemental neighbours ?

I regularly vacuum my front garden. I have a mix of artificial grass and paving stones, and it just feels like the easiest way to keep things tidy—especially when leaves, dirt, or small debris build up. It's kind of become a Sunday cleaning habit at this point.

The thing is, some of my neighbors have started giving me weird looks when they see me doing it. A couple of them have even made comments like, "Are you sure you don't want to take that inside?" I usually just laugh it off, but their reaction feels like i'm hoovering up the neighbourhood cat! (which I would never btw)

Now I'm wondering if I should I scale it back or just keep going and keep it a part of my weekly routine?

Plastic grass helps us keep things cleaner and reduces pollen/dust, which helps manage our cat’s hay fever. Helps make her environment as comfy as possible!

That's genuinely the most bonkers justification for plastic grass I've ever heard, lol.

justfornow1 · 25/08/2024 17:14

You'll be using the air freshener out there next op!

Go for it if you want but outside is supposed to have leaves and dirt, it's outside.

Yeah. You're also vacuuming insects and insect eggs. Super environmentally unfriendly.

"Neat and tidy" is horrible for nature.

LoneHydrangea · 25/08/2024 17:18

How on earth does plastic grass make your indoor cat’s environment as comfy as possible? 🥴

wutheringkites · 25/08/2024 17:19

What do you have in your back garden?

OP I think you are a bit bonkers and would love to have a neighbour like you!
Not only you vacumm your front patio but you have artificial grass to reduce the symptoms of your cat's hay fever :-)
Seriously, the world needs more people like you. Don't change, I mean it!

PS: ignore your neighbours

KnittingOnEmpty · 25/08/2024 17:37

I find your approach rather bonkers and I'm glad you're not next door to me tbh. Haven't you anything more useful to be getting on with?

Hello! I get that plastic grass might seem a bit odd, but it’s actually a lifesaver for our elderly indoor cat who has hay fever. We’re just trying to make her sneezing fits a bit less dramatic! It might look quirky, but seeing her breathe easier is worth it.

I’ve heard it all now. It’s bonkers. You do know that a real garden keeps the air clean from pollution, right? Plastic does the opposite. It pollutes the air. This can’t be real.

Skyrainlight · 25/08/2024 17:40

Before you had plastic grass and vacuumed it wouldn't you have thought it odd to see someone vacuuming their grass? I love that you have got it for your cat's health but I can understand the weird looks, they aren't unexpected. Just carry on doing your vacuuming thing, people will get used to it.

No, the world does not need more people like op. It honestly doesn’t.

GladLemonFish · 25/08/2024 17:42

No hedgehogs in your garden then.

We don't agree in this one.
If I witness the OP hoovering the fake grass and she add the reason for that, I can tell you, that would make my day.

Yarboosucks · 25/08/2024 17:53

Plastic grass is nothing short of environmental vandalism. Whether you vacuum it or not, it is degrading and releasing micro plastics. The cat excuse is utter tosh.

Your day, yes. But the world certainly doesn’t need more people with fake grass.

As the cat doesn't go out it cannot possibly help the cat's 'hay fever'

Most ridiculous thing I've ever heard

Do you have indoor air fresheners @lolapenguin ? They're more likely to cause sneezing

SweetFemaleAttitude · 25/08/2024 18:00

Why is this post giving me the vibe 'I want to get into the daily mail'

Aquamarine1029 · 25/08/2024 18:01

Do you really care what these people think? You're not bothering anyone, you're minding your own business. Why would you care what some randoms, who aren't even a part of your life, think? I wouldn't give it another thought.

UrbanFan · 25/08/2024 18:04

I vacuum my artificial grass sometimes too. No one else's business.

What she said.

Ignore the judgmental moaners, they always have to complain about something.

I'm sure you keep your property looking lovely. You carry on.

Delphiniumandlupins · 25/08/2024 18:07

I wonder how much the cat's hay-fever is related to the artificial grass? Surely no 'grass' at all would be healthier.

GlobalCitz · 25/08/2024 18:09

We absolutely do not deserve this planet.

To dress it up as "animal welfare" for your cat's wellbeing when you're quite literally killing flora and fauna is beyond the pale

Itssamemario · 25/08/2024 18:13

You're a mumsnetter, so of course yanbu.

Back in the real world however..

jen337 · 25/08/2024 18:13

An ex-colleague of mine years ago had plastic grass and used to rave about how practical it was that it could be hoovered like a carpet. So you’re not alone.

Totally agree.

I wish we could return this planet to all the other species.
