Admittedly new to the new kitchen game but had no idea sinks needed so much thought.😳

From my research:

  • enamel chips and breaks things
  • white stains
  • black shows up water marks and looks awful
  • stainless steel gets scratches and is no longer in

😫

We put in a Belfast sink when we redid our kitchen last year. Looks as good as the day we got it - never stained. I give it a wipe and that’s enough to keep it plenty clean. We often make tomato sauces, butter chicken etc. We did put a wire guard thing at the bottom to avoid scratches.

I've had a stainless steel sink for 18 years and it's not scratched - still looks like new....

Would never have a composite sink as part of a worktop as you have to change it all if there's a problem.

I have a white ceramic 1 1/2 bowl sink. Not enough room for a 2 bowl sink which I would have preferred. It cleans up great - no stains. And I always use a bowl in it for washing up which acts as a cushion so things don't get broken/chipped.

We did our kitchen recently and chose the least trendy most practical option. Big single bowl overmount stainless steel with integral draining board. I love it.

The little undermount sinks look undeniably sleeker but I knew it would annoy the hell out of me to not have a nice big draining board. And stainless steel can't be beaten for practicality imo.

When I chose my work surface the kitchen company said to order as many samples as I could and then practice on them with hot pans, curry, red wine etc.

This was a brilliant suggestion and I have now had my Shock (quartz) surface for 20 years it has dulled a little in parts but no stains cracks or chips.

Although the colour is dated it would be foolish to change it to suit the current fashion.

We have a white compostie under mounted sink, and I think it looks nice. Have a brushed gold/brass tap and plug which looks nice against the white. I clean it with bleach once a week or as and when it looks like it needs it, and it looks new again. We used to have a slate grey composite sink which looked lovey as new, but was harder to clean as the water marks would leave white marks (maybe limescale?) which were hard to remove. And when wet it would go all shiny and "used" looking so I used to dry it and then dread someone using it 🤣. White is definitely easier with this material. I hate stainless steel. We had one that ended up with a few dents and scratches, and then it ruins the look of it. Feel you can never give them a proper scrub or clean for fear of scratching it or damaging it. I do love ceramic sinks, we almost got one, but all our bathroom sinks have ended up cracked over the years so decided against it. Very happy with composite stone, it's basically indestructible
