To think manifesting works?

That's it really..
I'm reading a lot about it and I'm hoping it does work although I'm not wholly sure how to go about it for effectiveness.

It's one of those things like 'the secret' that was invented by a mid class white woman in the States. I'd like to see someone tell it to people living in extreme poverty I'm a third world country.
In other words, the idea of it being at all mystical is crap.

However, if you focus on what you really want, assuming it is a realistic proposition for your circumstances, then it will probably subconsciously influence all your minor choices and lead you in the right direction.

A friend gave me a book about it when I'd had recurrent miscarriages. Wonderful way of telling me that I just wasn't thinking positively enough about have a successful pregnancy.

I hope you threw said bok right back at her!
What a cow

As a tool for sequencing steps to achieve something I suppose it has merit but it’s prime use is as a method of monetising followers/readers whose essential credulity and continuous surprise at confirmation bias makes them complacently self satisfied while building wealth for others. As a tool for preventing war, abuse, starvation, illness or for delivering a fully crushing on me Jason Momoa it’s woefully lacking.

lemonmeringueno3 · 20/08/2024 08:43

So all a cancer patient needs to do is manifest a full recovery?

No, you can't magic things into existence.

But I do think that focusing on what you want, believing that you deserve it, making little steps every day towards achieving it, must increase your odds of achieving achievable things.

Agreed - awful ‘friend’. Sorry you had to navigate that at such a tough time.

Yes, it monetises credulity.

Basically, manifestation is the 'grown-ups' version of 'The Little Engine'...
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

steadywinner · 20/08/2024 08:53

Nobody makes things happen through magical means - but obviously people who are positive with a can do attitude get things done. Nothing new there.

RomeoRivers · 20/08/2024 08:55

I feel like I ‘manifested’ my life.

I always knew what I wanted and, even though it seemed unlikely, I am now living that life. Obviously I made conscious decisions to get there, but it definitely feels a bit like I pre-wrote the story of my life 😂

And to state the bleeding fucking obvious, in case no one else has yet, it's the rich/privileged that have the confidence behind them or financial backing to get what they want in life anyway, that are the type to promote this shit. Spoiler: you didn't wish your luxurious life into existence you just have a rich mum and dad.

What the fuck is it today with the envy of money? you are making assumptions about those who may have money to buy stuff
Jeez, people think the landed gentry are snobs, but the reverse snobbery, bitchiness, and sheer hatred towards anyone with, or assumed to have, money on this forum is incredible

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 19/08/2024 20:58

Well it all worked for me.
i am in no way a woo person but id had enough and just went for life instead of maintaining my negative mindset.

i got a new job. New life. Went from 19k job in a terrible flat to 8 years later house owning and 6 figure salary. New life, country and man 😀

and nothing to do with my narc parents who I’m NC with.

All that in only 8 years of manufesting....

@Angrymum22 it seems to me that you set yourself a goal, and then worked towards achieving it. Where did manifesting come into it?
Genuine question - it’s not something I know anything about.

This is the 2020s . We need a label for everything, apparently. It makes people feel better to be labelled or to have a title put on their behavious

That's just luck and effort though. Many, many people know what they want in life. Some get it, most don't.

LoneHydrangea · 20/08/2024 09:03

It’s nonsense but I manifested a new job last year and I got one 😄

visualfeast · 20/08/2024 09:10

I’ve always thought it’s rubbish but after this month I’m not sure.. I’ve been struggling with work (self employed) after some mental health issues last year. Things have been better this year but I still have not been getting as much work in. Last month I decided to be much more intentionally positive in my outlook, practice gratitude (writing things down), work out every day etc… I haven’t changed anything in terms of approaching clients but I have made more than 3 times what I have been making on average in other months this year (and 10x what I was making on average last year). I can’t help but think it’s something to do with the positive outlook / gratitude / manifesting… even though I probably wouldn’t admit that in real life!

Did you also keep an eye out for opportunities, see one, apply and interview?

jamsandwiched · 20/08/2024 09:30

This all started with sportsman visualising their success.
Ollie Watkins claimed he manifested that goal into reality and intended to do the same for the semi final but it didn't seem to work on the day for all his positive thinking we lost.
I'd say anything that only appears to work sporadically is probably just down to chance.
He kicked the ball towards the goal with his foot not his imagination and it went where he'd aimed.

If I said it rains the next day every time I clapped my hands before bed and clapped my hands every night chances are it would 'work' sometimes I'd wake up and it be raining but not because I'd manifested with my mind.

BunnyLake · 20/08/2024 09:48

Manifesting just sounds like a trendy buzzword. No one said manifesting years ago.

If you focus and work towards something then yes that can yield good results but lying in bed ‘manifesting’ you’re going to be the next CEO of Amazon is not going to happen.

FartingAgainstThunder · 20/08/2024 09:51

I think it's just a case of setting positive intentions and I really love having a vision board to keep my goals in my mind.
I haven't done one for a while right enough but I had great success with the last one I did.

I was in a homeless unit after leaving my ex,unemployed and suffering from an as yet undiagnosed condition which meant I was on crutches, in a wheelchair or on a mobility scooter.
All while trying to parent a 3 and 5 year old.

My board was basically ...

a 3 bed home of our own with a garden for the dog.
(I printed out exterior pictures of the house and garden and a three bedroom floor plan from the internet)

Happy children

Healthy life

Get a job I could do from home even if the children were at home.

Now all of the above came to be, down to the floorplan of the council house I was very lucky to get allocated.

I got my diagnosis and sought private treatment and got my life back.

An ex colleague got in touch and offered me a job I could do at home and as it (mostly) wasn't customer facing he didn't mind if the children were around.

Would this all have happened without the daily reminder to keep going and fighting for what I wanted?
Maybe 🤷‍♀️

But I think without it I may not have had such a positive mindset and might have given up.

Your life isn't going to change because you got the pritt stick out and glued some pretty pictures to a bit of cardboard but I firmly believe keeping a visual representation of your goals that you can look at daily is definitely helpful for your mindset.

Now where's that pritt stick? 😊

Jifmicroliquid · 20/08/2024 09:52

Manifesting a winning lottery ticket hasn’t done much for me I'm afraid.

greenwoodentablelegs · 20/08/2024 10:05

That’s a lovely yellow copy. That helps !

try and it see. Return in a year and tell us if it worked.

Poggishairtufts · 20/08/2024 10:11

Absolute nonsense. You can take actions for something to happen yes but not by sheer will.

Zeeze · 20/08/2024 10:15

I don’t think manifesting works - what about the holocaust, Gaza, Bangladesh etc. Did people manifest that?

It reminds me of that short story, The Monkey’s Paw about the tragic consequences of wishing for money!

However, positive thinking, in my opinion does work . I needed more money, looked for job opportunities, side hustles etc and found them. If you sit on your arse just wishing for money, you are unlikely to get it!

autumnbake · 20/08/2024 10:28

I think it's more to do with having a positive mindset.

Thinking positively will help keep you motivated towards your goals rather than giving up at the first hurdle.

If you think positively/optimistically, you will start to see more positives/wins in life rather than focusing on the negatives. Being positive usually means you're putting yourself out there and will find you naturally attract more opportunities (or 'goodluck').

Obviously life is unpredictable, and can be extremely shit, but having a positive mindset could really help in certain situations in life such as job hunting/career progression/breakups/self improvement/weightloss etc.
