To think I need to throw everything in the fridge away?

I have fresh meat in the fridge which is in date and also a pack of chicken fillets which is 5 days out of date.
I have thrown the chicken away which is in a packet but what about all the other food in the fridge?
It's other meat, cheese, vegetables etc?

Why would you do that? Were they touching? You say it’s in a packet

ramsayboltonshounds · 18/08/2024 14:38

What would you need to throw everything else away for if the chicken was in its own sealed packaging and presuming it hasn't leaked? I wouldn't throw anything else out.

natalienewname · 18/08/2024 14:38

Why would you throw the other food away?

Unless the out of date chicken was leaking juices all over the rest of the fridge, everything else in there is absolutely fine. Without a doubt.

LIZS · 18/08/2024 14:38

Was it exposed or in a pack/covered? I would just wipe out the fridge where it had been and keep anything which was not in direct contact with the off meat.

PurpleDiva22 · 18/08/2024 14:38

If it was an unopened packet of chicken it would never cross my mind to have to throw out other foods!

Singleandproud · 18/08/2024 14:39

I would just throw the chicken out, why throw out the rest?

AmIHereReally · 18/08/2024 14:40

What an earth am I reading?

soupfiend · 18/08/2024 14:41

Your post doesnt make sense, are you (as others have assumed) thinking that because you had out of date chicken in the fridge, that you now need to throw away the rest of the food in the fridge?

No you dont (unless like others have said there were raw juices running all over that other food, unlikely)

I'm with everyone else. Of course you don't throw good food away because you found 1 out of date pack of chicken. Even if the chicken had leaked I doubt very much anything else was open......unless all your food is unpackaged.

This place gets weirder by the day.

7wwkw · 18/08/2024 14:50

If the chicken was in a packet, everything else is fine.

Did you really need to post that?

Did you really need to post that?

Yes.

LoneHydrangea · 18/08/2024 14:52

Yes. Throw everything out including food in cupboards. In fact, burn your house down to be on the safe side.

GalileoHumpkins · 18/08/2024 14:52

Why stop at the contents, drag the fridge outside and take a flame thrower to it.

1pinkbowl · 18/08/2024 14:52

Throw all the food away. The gone off chicken vibe will have spread all over the fridge and food and......actually get the fridge out of the house and down the tip ASAP. If the fridge door has been opened, torch the whole place.

Then burn the street.

TheGoogleMum · 18/08/2024 14:53

YABU. Throwing everything away would be wasteful. How exactly do you expect the chicken to contaminate the other food? Even the chicken I'd have given it a sniff before throwing it out even if out of date? Might have still been OK!

PianPianPiano · 18/08/2024 14:53

Have you missed out some info in your op? Has your fridge been left off for a period of time or something? It's not clear why you think you need to throw everything out.

Why shouldn’t she post that?

Silvesterthecat · 18/08/2024 14:56

I’d still eat the chicken personally

TheKeatingFive · 18/08/2024 14:59

WTH?

Why would you do that?

Turophilic · 18/08/2024 15:03

This is insanity. Of course you don’t throw anything else out.

SunflowersMidwinter · 18/08/2024 15:05

While it's true that mould spores can spread throughout the fridge, 5 days out of date chicken still in packaging isn't a problem.

Honestly, the paranoia on this site has become next level. It’s a wonder anyone gets out of bed in the morning.
