Just that really! Can anyone tell me if they are reliable, thinking this would be a good idea for school? Best ones to buy for my girl please.
Thanks

For extra absorption I think it would be best to add a pad to them.

RhaenysRocks · 16/08/2024 10:42

mine has got on fine with the Primark ones and some from M&S. I haven't quite nerved myself to try them as they weren't a "thing" back in the olden days. She much prefers them especially on days she has sport to using towels (not ready for tampons).

CraftyNavySeal · 16/08/2024 10:42

I love mine but wouldn’t wear them outside the house for more than an hour or 2.

They can start to smell a bit and if she needs to change them she will have to carry the used ones around.

RhaenysRocks · 16/08/2024 10:43

I'd recommend trying them out on a weekend or holiday day so she can feel confident. If you're going to use a pad as ell, there's not much point.

BananaBender · 16/08/2024 10:46

My teen uses them. On a school day she’ll start off with a pad in the period pants. Sometime during the day she’ll dispose of the pad and just use the period pants for the rest of the day. It works for her and it’s easy for her to manage her period this way.

They're a good back up for another method. But I hear mixed things about how reliable they are to use solo.
I use a cup and wear them just in case I have a cup malfunction or I get a droplet or two of blood on underwear when doing a cup switchover. I only wear them solo on light or v light days which for me is day 5 6 7. From reviews iread I think the Wuka brand came out on top.

Eyf · 16/08/2024 10:52

My daughter uses them, we’ve tried M&S but she didn’t get on with those at all. The best ones so far have been from CheekyPants though I have not long ordered some of the ModiBodi ones!

They have been excellent for her.

Sgtmajormummy · 16/08/2024 10:52

“Modibodi” have a cute starter pack with a carry pouch and information sheet. Made for the girl’s first time but the more info the better, right?

user1471464395 · 16/08/2024 10:54

I use them solo and love them. Mine are from Victoria’s Secret and even when my flow is heavy I’ve had no leaks

Lovemusic82 · 16/08/2024 10:54

My daughter uses them, she has ASD and won’t change at college. On heavy days she wears period pants with a pad and on lighter days just the pants. We did buy the Modibodi bundle but there wasn’t as many other brands on the market then. She now has some fromNext and M&S that seem to be really good, they wash better than the Modibodi tbh and cost a lot less.

NImumconfused · 16/08/2024 10:55

DD15 uses the Modibodi ones, on their own, you do get the very occasional minor leak around the seams but she has really heavy periods so yours might not. She didn't get on with pads and wouldn't even contemplate tampons so they've been a good solution for her.

Sarahlouise86 · 16/08/2024 10:57

Not from a teenager perspective (but a woman in her 30's), I made the switch a few years ago now and use Modibodi.

I bought 5 pairs and they have lasted me several years so far. I have a heavy flow since children and i generally will change them at lunchtine (and pop them in a sanitary bag then sort when i get home), never had an issue with leaking/smells and i find them so comfy. Would never go back to 'traditional' period products.

Seagullslanding · 16/08/2024 11:01

Go for a quality brand - modibodi or WUKA. If you sign up on the modibodi website, they will send you a discount code. I was able to use the code on one of the multipacks.

My daughter is autistic and can be clumsy, has sensory issues and not very self aware. These have been fantastic for her.

Fluffytoebeanz · 16/08/2024 11:03

We've tried a few. Best but not cheap are Wuka. They fit really well.

Yes, I use them as backup only. I do think they would smell if you were bleeding into them all day. They can also make you very sweaty in the summer.

I've leaked a couple of times at night even with a pad and tampon as well (fibroids).

circular1985 · 16/08/2024 11:23

I've used period pants for years and never leaked. They always lasted well.

Dd now uses them. We have M&S, Modibody and primark. We don't notice any difference in effectiveness and there are no issues with going all day at school. She had a little pack with spare pants and pads that she brings to school should she need it.

itsjustbiology · 16/08/2024 11:35

Thank you everyone ..I really appreciate your advice x

My tween has found them good. She got them after her first period (Primark and M and S but we might try another brand soon) at age 10 and finds them more reassuring:easier to deal with than just pads. On heavy days, she wears a pad too and takes the pad off at lunchtime at school. No issues as yet. 🤞🤞I might switch to them but a bit worried they might leak as I have been used to traditional san pro for more than 30 years now!! We rinse them in cold water after use, put them in a bucket and then wash with normal dark load.

I’m in Australia so you’d probably have to pay a lot to get them to the UK! My DD uses TOM Organic. They’re available in our two major supermarkets and online. What is great about these is that the protective part of the pants goes all the way to the back waistband. Great for DD who likes to sit or lie in strange positions, lol. Love the cheaper price too.

My suggestion is to buy one pair from a few different brands and see what she likes. This was the 4th brand that my DD tried. Once she liked them and they proved to be reliable I bought more pairs to get through her period with washing them and allowing them to dry.

wateraddict · 16/08/2024 11:53

I second PP with starting with a pad too at the start of the day, then changing to another if flow is heavy or just using the pants for the rest of the day if flow is light. Period pants are a godsend at night, we have the Cheeky brand in our house and they have absorbency right up the front and back, which is great for people who don't like sleeping on their side. The cheeky pads are good too, cotton or bamboo. I prefer cotton against my skin but it's all about preference. Def worth trying a few types to see what you like best. Mine are still going strong after years of wear and still watertight. Good luck!

Haggisfish3 · 16/08/2024 11:59

There is a scheme in secondary schools that mean all your daughters period products should be provided free of charge, including period pants. Worth asking about when term starts again. It’s also in primary school and colleges.

theteddybear · 16/08/2024 12:01

You don't need to add a pad. Theres different flow levels and different quality levels. So that wld probably be a factor as to how long they last.

I was quite sceptical at first but they are fantastic. I went for heavy/overnight and I wear these the first few days of my period then can move on to the lighter flow ones. I can use one pair all day, maybe when it's getting to dinner time, I need a new pair but I do not need any back up. Well so far I've been using for about 5 months now. I can bleed quite heavy the first day or 2 as well.

I purchased the modibodi ones. You usually get discount or a free pair on first order. They can be quite pricey but honestly it's almost like not having a period compared to using pads.

I've also tried some from Primark but I tend to use them after the first few days as I don't trust them as much.

Therealmetherealme · 16/08/2024 12:19

My daughter uses them, she's young only recently started so I think she actually wears them as normal knickers as her cycle is unpredictable at the moment. We use M&S and modibodi ones. I didn't like the Sainsbury's one and the Next ones haven't washed as She puts a clean one on before school and it lasts her until home time. I have a lidded box for them, and they go in a separate wash, no softener.
