Single parent to 2 DS 14 and 12.

Trying to do one fun pricier out of the house activity a week during the holidays.

They don't want to do anything I managed to get them out for the first couple of weeks to mini golf and go karting including lunch while out at their choice of food place. Now they say they just want to "chill at home" when I try to organise anything.

They're happy talking to friends online and gaming in their rooms and only come out for food.

I turn 40 this year and I'm feeling a bit wobbly about that and being alone so I'm not sure if I'm being over sensitive about this whole thing.

I do completely understand the guilt, you have free time you should be having the best summer etc etc. I have tried to shift my mindset this year, helped by my youngest saying 'why are you trying to make me go out' when she is the one I've always had to entertain! So reducing pressure, couple of trips with friends and then chores paced with food bribery to get us out of the house seems to be a happy balance. I read a book once that explained that teens are wired to push away from us so I'm not taking it personal and enjoying my book while they aren't moaning x

I think it's ok for them to chill at home, especially at 14. Term time is hectic with school, homework and extra curricular activities so it's not surprising that they just want to chill for a few weeks. It's nice that they are happy at home and secure - you are a great parent who works hard and provides for them 😊 I would relax about it and let them be. If they get a bit bored, that's the time to ask for their suggestions for activities!
