To order in food to a hotel?

Heading off to spend a week in a hotel whilst undergoing radiotherapy. Not enthralled about the hotel menu (nor the prices). Is it totally wrong/chavvy to order in food from somewhere like just eat? Very limited mobility so no real options to eat elsewhere without taxi costs etc.

I have known people thrown out for doing this. Check your T&Cs on the booking. Stinks the place out and housekeeping find disposing of the used containers a pain in the arse.

What? I’ve never even heard of hotels banning people from eating in their rooms, let alone being thrown out for it? Of course you can eat food in your hotel room 😂

Me neither.

Even if it did say something in the T&Cs small print, no way are they throwing guests out for simply eating their own food in the room they've paid to stay in.

They'd be crucified on social media for a start.

I've done it but I did check with reception first. They were more than happy and even offered a plate, cutlery and said if I needed them to dispose of the rubbish then just to pop it to reception.

Order from somewhere you can track your delivery driver & collect outside the hotel. Have you looked to see if there is a room service menu? Often, there are lots of snacky things on there.

You cannot be kicked out of a hotel for taking food into your room. Even if it says this in the T&Cs (it won't) there is a strong legal argument that it is unfair. If the hotel also provides room service, they're on a hiding to nothing. I would strongly advise though, that anyone doing this clears up afterwards and takes their own takeaway packaging down to the bin.

That is not cheeky
A former colleague used to take her slow cooker and airfyer to premier inns and knock up a full home cooked dinner cos 'Terry will only eat MY cooking'.

OP, good luck with your ongoing treatment

That is horrific and sounds like a fire hazard.

If it wasn't for the fact that a lot of takeaway food stinks to high heaven and lingers, that would be the perfect plan.

But a hotel can't stop you picking up or bringing food and eating it in your room? I've never seen anything in a hotel stating you cannot eat your own food in your room. But do understand some will not allow deliveries of hot food directly to the hotel

I stay in hotels all the time and also work in hotels - you are absolutely allowed to do this and I do it all the time!! I even ask for a knife and fork from reception 😅

fill ya boots and don’t let people put you off or scare you into not!! You’re going through a lot and deserve to eat exactly what you want. Good luck with treatment xx

🤣 this is simply not true - it’s not like taking your own sandwich into a cafe! You can absolutely eat your own take away in a hotel room! And a couple of take away containers are nothing in comparison to what some people leave in rooms!

@JabbaTheBeachHut Room service menus are typically (not always) designed avoiding things that smell strongly or stain if spilled.

Thus the popularity of club sandwiches & Caesar salads on room service menus.

I’ve seen a curry, pasta, burgers, pizza etc on a room service menu plenty of times! I stay in hotels weekly. This is NOT the reason club sandwich and cesar salads are on the menu 😅😅😅😅
